I cannot with Dobby’s glow up😍 Does he need a new name?? He’s not such a scrawny little dude anymore. He’s been with Splash Sanctuary Betta Rescue since May 2 and is available for pre-adoption, he should be ready for new waters by the end of the month! It’s the happiest of homecomings🥹 Stellar, the little crippled koi betta, went to new waters today! He is such a happy, sweet, energetic fish and an absolute favorite at Splash Sanctuary Betta Rescue. I LIVE for his flares and feisty attitude. Thank you Rachel Cartwright for loving this special boy and giving him a beautiful forever home!❤️✨

They’re like bookends… Fire & Ice! These are two of my personal babies, Karma and Gemini. Karma is a koi twintail halfmoon and Gemini is a koi Nemo galaxy longtail. I guess you could say I have a type😍✨

Calcifer is a feisty bi-color “over halfmoon” betta with stunning lavender & red colors. I treated Calcifer for swim bladder disorder & fin rot and he is thriving and ready for new waters! He will be happiest in a tank absolutely stuffed with live or silk plants to rest in when his long fins start to wear him out. Calcifer LOVES mealtimes & will jump out of the water for treats so watch your fingers🤣 He will come home with a goody bag of healthy hornwort & frogbit to help make his new home as comfy as possible.

🩵ADOPTABLE🩵 Evermore is a stunning turquoise blue “super delta” betta with fins for daysss😍 I treated Evermore for fin rot and he is thriving and ready for his forever home! He will be happiest in a tank absolutely stuffed with live or silk plants to rest in when his long fins start to wear him out.

PLEASE KNOW- since Evermore has previously experienced fin rot, he has a higher chance of developing it again. His new keeper will need to stay on top of regular water changes and always have Indian almond leaves or other tannins added to promote fin & overall health🩵

Spartacus is thriving and ready for his forever home! He is a cellophane crowntail betta, with the wildest glow-up I’ve seen yet. He came to me grey with stress stripes missing nearly his entire fins. That grew into a beautiful blue & red, which then turned into…white???🤯 Cellophane bettas are described as colorless, transparent, but Spartacus has the most gorgeous blue eyes, and turquoise shot through his fins that glows in the sunlight. This is NOT a boring betta😍

Pippin & Fury went home, that makes three beautiful, happy adoptions for Splash Sanctuary Betta Rescue this week🥹❤️

Pippin was my second rescue, after Gucci. As his rose petal fins grew in and feisty attitude showed I just knew he was outgrowing me🥲 But Fury’s adoption was a surprise! This one-eyed platinum betta almost died on me but deep down knew he had more life to live. His new momma set up the perfect tank for a blind betta.

I’m so encouraged that there are others out there like me, people drawn to caring for these precocious little ones!❤️ Congratulations Pippin & Fury on your forever homes.

You’ll get the side eye every time🤣 Ngl I’ve seen some GORGEOUS larger bowl setups, but unless you live in the tropics with 80+ daily temps and water change every day (if you do can I have your life please🥹), a heater & filter are absolutely necessary to keep your fish friend happy & healthy❤️

It’s been nearly a week since Roxy passed. I bleached his tank thoroughly & then it sat empty. I’ve felt lost, useless, how can I make life better for these little guys when I couldn’t even fix him. Watching Spartacus, Fury, Pippin, and Avatar thriving these past few days despite all their challenges has helped me feel grounded. Today, I went to the pet store to buy shrimp for my shrimp tank, and instead came home with this beauty. He was sitting on a shelf next to a dead betta, I negotiated 50% off because he’s lost his tail to fin rot. He’s perfect✨ Welcome to Splash Sanctuary Betta Rescue, Evermore🩵

Roxy passed last night💔 I don’t know why I even thought he would pull through… blind hope, the eternal optimist in me. A 1-2 punch of Ich & fin rot combined with months of poor water quality and stress was too much for me to fix in 3 short days. I returned his tiny body to the pet store, and pointed out disease on 2 additional bettas in their display🥺 I have to disinfect his rescue tank before I can bring home another. On the way back to my car, I found this flower dropped on the floor. It’s Roxy’s same pretty purple. I saw it glimmering around the edges of the remains of his fins as he lay on the bottom his tank, searching for the energy to keep going. Is he telling me he’s finally at peace? I tried, little buddy. You deserved so much better.

Avatar just may be the most photogenic fish I’ve ever seen😍 He came to me having issues with his swim bladder which has healed up so beautifully! Videos in comments. He is a glowing blue & red veiltail betta who loves food, flaring, and following my finger, in that order.

Tho she be but little, she is fierce! Xena Princess Warrior is a spicy ruby crowntail betta fish. She came to me with chewed up fins from her time spent in a sorority and with warm, clean water she has improved in leaps & bounds! Crowntail females are super curvy when they’re eggy, don’t let her plump shape fool you, this girl books it around her rescue tank and would love to show off her shiny ruby color in a bigger space.

Fezzik, our gentle giant, is a stunning and feisty male Twintail Halfmoon Betta. His coloring is bright red shot with iridescent white. I rescued Fezzik with a startling case of swim bladder disorder, he was stuck floating on his side at the top of his cup and was very unhappy about it. I cupped him at the top of his tank and fasted him for three days to relieve pressure on his swim bladder. By the third day, he had full motion and eats everything I offer him. He even started blowing a bubble nest in his isolation container🥹 Video in comments.

Pikachu Godzilla Sirenhead’s 2-day glow-up🤩We are SO excited to welcome Pikachu as a permanent member of our squad, and Odin’s very own betta💙 He was labeled a “special buy” and appears to be a Candy Koi Plakat. Plakats are short-finned bettas and generally more active than the long-finned varieties (with good reason, plakats aren’t swimming in a ball gown😅) making him the perfect choice for a kiddo to interact with and care for. Mama is always close by with a watchful eye making sure Pikachu is living his best life🥰 Splash Sanctuary Betta Rescue

Miss Gucci is ready for her new digs!✨ This little girl is a gorgeous Samurai betta with an absolutely perfect glittery black and white color pattern🤍🖤 She’s still a baby but super healthy and so, SO active (receipt in comments). Gucci has been with me for two weeks and her glow up makes my heart so happy. She loves interacting with anyone who comes near her tank, and mealtimes are her favorite- she enjoys frozen brine shrimp & bloodworms, fluval bug bites, betta flakes, ok any food I feed her🤣

Rescue tour✨

These are 2.5g basic rectangle tanks with hob filters (I prefer “hang on back” filters as I can customize the filtration) and 15w adjustable heaters. Adjustable heaters are a MUST as most illnesses or injuries heal better at higher temps than your typical preset heater can get to. There are dividers between them- bettas are solitary fish and seeing another betta triggers stress and aggression which doesn’t help with healing. Why not just buy one long tank and divide it into sections? Like Jaws🦈 a betta fish can actually smell another betta in the water triggering the same reaction as seeing them. Individual tanks also work to quarantine contagious diseases and keep medication doses accurate.

I have room for two more🥹 Please message me if you see a sick or injured betta at a pet store in Evansville. I also take surrenders if a betta is needing extra care or not thriving despite best efforts. The bettas we find at the typical pet store are overbred and genetically weak, illness or failing to thrive is not YOUR failure! The industry lets these babies down on a daily basis.
