Frodo, wondering if new tankmates are friends or food🤣

Did you know that sand aquariums have toxic gas build up in the substrate? When sand is packed down without regular aeration, anaerobic bacteria builds into hydrogen sulfide “bubbles” that can be lethal enough to poison an entire fish tank. Raking through your sand before a water change can help avoid this disaster! Or get these guys to do it for you- Malaysian trumpet snails burrow into the sand as natural aerators. MTS grow as large as 1.5 inches and in the right conditions, live over a year. Here’s to outsourcing!🫶

I cannot with Dobby’s glow up😍 Does he need a new name?? He’s not such a scrawny little dude anymore. He’s been with Splash Sanctuary Betta Rescue since May 2 and is available for pre-adoption, he should be ready for new waters by the end of the month! It’s the happiest of homecomings🥹 Stellar, the little crippled koi betta, went to new waters today! He is such a happy, sweet, energetic fish and an absolute favorite at Splash Sanctuary Betta Rescue. I LIVE for his flares and feisty attitude. Thank you Rachel Cartwright for loving this special boy and giving him a beautiful forever home!❤️✨

They’re like bookends… Fire & Ice! These are two of my personal babies, Karma and Gemini. Karma is a koi twintail halfmoon and Gemini is a koi Nemo galaxy longtail. I guess you could say I have a type😍✨

Edit- ADOPTED by a repeat betta momma!❤️

Calcifer is a feisty bi-color “over halfmoon” betta with stunning lavender & red colors. I treated Calcifer for swim bladder disorder & fin rot and he is thriving and ready for new waters! He will be happiest in a tank absolutely stuffed with live or silk plants to rest in when his long fins start to wear him out. Calcifer LOVES mealtimes & will jump out of the water for treats so watch your fingers🤣 He will come home with a goody bag of healthy hornwort & frogbit to help make his new home as comfy as possible.

My adoption requirements are designed to help these little water puppies thrive in their new home.

- minimum 3 gallon tank
- sponge filter or adjustable/baffled filter
- adjustable heater to maintain temp of 78-82
- several live or silk plants for resting, hiding, and enrichment
- a high-quality diet of Fluval betta bug bites supplemented with live or frozen foods
- a cycled tank or knowledge of the nitrogen cycle in order to perform a safe fish-in cycle
- local pickup in Evansville, Indiana, I am not able to ship at this time

Do any of my local followers (Evansville) need frogbit or hornwort? I’m constantly clearing this tank out & pitching it feels wasteful. It grows like crazy! 🩵ADOPTABLE🩵 Evermore is a stunning turquoise blue “super delta” betta with fins for daysss😍 I treated Evermore for fin rot and he is thriving and ready for his forever home! He will be happiest in a tank absolutely stuffed with live or silk plants to rest in when his long fins start to wear him out.

PLEASE KNOW- since Evermore has previously experienced fin rot, he has a higher chance of developing it again. His new keeper will need to stay on top of regular water changes and always have Indian almond leaves or other tannins added to promote fin & overall health🩵

Spartacus is thriving and ready for his forever home! He is a cellophane crowntail betta, with the wildest glow-up I’ve seen yet. He came to me grey with stress stripes missing nearly his entire fins. That grew into a beautiful blue & red, which then turned into…white???🤯 Cellophane bettas are described as colorless, transparent, but Spartacus has the most gorgeous blue eyes, and turquoise shot through his fins that glows in the sunlight. This is NOT a boring betta😍

Pippin & Fury went home, that makes three beautiful, happy adoptions for Splash Sanctuary Betta Rescue this week🥹❤️

Pippin was my second rescue, after Gucci. As his rose petal fins grew in and feisty attitude showed I just knew he was outgrowing me🥲 But Fury’s adoption was a surprise! This one-eyed platinum betta almost died on me but deep down knew he had more life to live. His new momma set up the perfect tank for a blind betta.

I’m so encouraged that there are others out there like me, people drawn to caring for these precocious little ones!❤️ Congratulations Pippin & Fury on your forever homes.

You’ll get the side eye every time🤣 Ngl I’ve seen some GORGEOUS larger bowl setups, but unless you live in the tropics with 80+ daily temps and water change every day (if you do can I have your life please🥹), a heater & filter are absolutely necessary to keep your fish friend happy & healthy❤️
