Its actually listed as a recommended test for all senior pets by the American Animal Hospital Association. Diagnostic ultrasound is not always available however CVDC can come to your veterinarian to easily perform this testing for your pet. Part of this week was spent helping sweet Bear figure out why he’s having a hard time breathing. Rhinoscopy and biopsy of the nose can be really helpful in these cases and allowed us to reach a diagnosis in Bear’s case. Contact CVDC or your primary veterinary for more information. Second stop was to see friends at Animal Hospital of Orange Grove for another ultrasound. Building relationships with your family vet is the best part of what CVDC does! 🐈🐕

Fact of the day: Certain breeds of dogs and cats are predisposed to heart disease.

*Great Danes and Doberman Pinchers: Dilated Cardiomyopathy.

*Maine C**n and Ragdoll cats: Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

*Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Dachshunds: Chronic Valvular Disease.

This doesn’t mean other breeds can’t get heart disease. In most cases, these diseases remain hidden until they are advanced. Diagnosing heart disease early with echocardiography (heart ultrasound) can help slow the progression to advanced stages.
