📣 Time for our big announcement! 📣 We just set a huge goal: to provide ONE MILLION MEALS to bottle babies this summer.

Did you know kittens are the most vulnerable population in shelters, due in part to their lack of access to essential supplies? We’re sending formula to shelters coast-to-coast this summer to help save little lives. Full tummies await!

With your help, we can reach our goal. Visit donate.orphankittenclub.org/meals to make a donation towards our Got Formula? campaign!

🐾$30 fuels 1 litter of hungry kittens.
🐱$75 helps fill 10 tiny tummies.
🍼$300 buys babies a whole bucket of formula!

So, when you’re looking to make a difference, remember:

Got Formula? Help us reach our HUGE goal of feeding one million meals to kittens this summer!

We will be forever grateful to her for the love and kindness she shown to our animals on the day of their neuter or spay or during their stay at the shelter. She always greeted us with a smile, didn't matter if we were running very late for drop-off or pickup and causing a bit of a pickle to her routine. Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting her will tell you the same, that her love for animals were unlike any. Katie will be dearly missed. Our thoughts are with her family, her animals, and anyone whom she has met. ❤️

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of MOAS employee Katie Griffeth. Katie was an incredible person, an unwavering advocate for animals, and an amazing friend to so many. She was known for her unmatched love of animals and her dedication to helping the neediest among them. As the life blood of MOAS, Katie made an immeasurable impact on our community as she served as our veterinary technician, assisting with thousands upon thousands of spay/neuter surgeries to combat pet overpopulation.

Katie had been a devoted employee of MOAS since its inception in 2002, dedicating over 22 years of her life to the welfare of animals. Her compassion, kindness, and tireless efforts touched countless lives, both human and animal. In all things Katie was selfless, giving, and the hardest working individual MOAS has ever had.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, her MOAS family, and the community members who knew and loved Katie.

In her honor, staff started a memorial with flowers at the shelter gate. Please feel free to leave flowers in her honor, but even more so adopt, foster, or help an animal in some way, as that will honor Katie’s legacy and her mission to save animals. We will provide updates about funeral services in the coming days.

Rest in peace, Katie. You will be deeply missed. You were hired before the first block was laid at MOAS, and you were the cornerstone of our organization. As we honor Katie and her life, please feel free to comment with any fond memories you have.

***Update***
Katie’s service will be Thursday June 27, 2024 at Bannister-Cooper Funeral Home 678 North Main St. Hiawassee, GA 30546 with viewing at 11AM with service starting at 1PM. Interment will follow at Laurel Hills Memory Gardens on GA-515 Young Harris, GA 30582 at the GA-NC line.

My least favorite dog treat, they're high in calories and, surprisingly, they're often found on pet poison lists. They contain high levels of hydroxyproline, which can be problematic for dogs prone to bladder stones. And if you knew the grisly process used to make them, you'd never buy them again.

This organization is wonderful! So great for Kitten Lady for doing a fundraiser for them!

I don’t think I have ever been more excited for a fundraiser than I am for the Afternoon Tea with Kittens—in Georgia! 🐱🫖

This lovely fundraiser for Planned PEThood of GA will feature delicious snacks, tea, a mimosa bar, auction items, live music, and yes…KITTENS! Planned PEThood is a truly amazing organization, and one I’ve been proud to support through Orphan Kitten Club for many years. I’m so excited to be a part of this event, and if you live near the Atlanta area, I hope you will too. 🩷

Did you hear the news? Legal FIP treatment is coming to the U.S.! 🙀

Starting in June 2024, veterinarians will be able to legally order compounded tablets of GS-441524, the drug proven to save the lives of cats diagnosed with FIP (like my dear Coco 🖤) through Stokes pharmacy. This is a major win for veterinarians and cat guardians who have historically had to either say goodbye to the cats in their care, or access the lifesaving drug through nontraditional (black market) means. It’s truly amazing to see history being made before our eyes!

As I said to Dr. Wallach when I heard the news yesterday, I am beside myself with happiness—and also feel like I’ll never have to stop updating my book, haha! I loved her response: “If science is progressing as it should, we should always be making our previous information outdated.” YES!

I wanted to share this cool news with you all so that if your cat becomes diagnosed with FIP, you can ask your veterinarian about the possibility of ordering compounded tablets that can save her life.

-

P.S. I have had several foster parents tell me at events recently that they’re having kittens diagnosed with FIP one after another after another. So I wanted to add some of my own perspectives on reducing the risk of FIP in foster homes:

1) Avoid overcrowding — be mindful of your capacity for care. Don’t house kittens of many litters all together in one shared space, take breaks to fully disinfect between litters to reduce fomites in environment, etc.

2) Avoid exposure to coronavirus — keep your kittens contained and separated from resident animals. If you have a resident cat who routinely interacts with your kittens, please have them PCR tested for coronavirus (and stop exposing them to your kittens if they are positive.)

3. Follow good husbandry practices to reduce stress — while I’m not aware of a study specifically linking husbandry issues to FIP, we know that the coronavirus can mutate to FIP in immune compromised cats. Some husbandry issues I see often are premature weaning, inappropriate feeding schedules, unsanitary conditions, and failure to treat other diseases promptly.

I hope this information is helpful! 🖤

Meet Zuko, a 3-4 years Norwegian Elkhound that was saved from a California shelter and brought to Georgia by his loving advocate because a foster and potential adopter was lined up for him but sadly both didn't work out.

Zuko is a very sweet dog who loves human attention. He is currently in training with Atlanta Dog Training in Alpharetta to learn good manners and to help him be the best boy. He seems to want to chase cats if they run past him, not sure of his true intentions toward cats but to be cautious we think he would be better in a home without cats.

He is ok around dogs but has shown to be a little guarded towards toys or treats. His trainer is working with him on that as well.

Zuko would love a foster or parent with previous breed experience or previous GSD or Husky or working dog experience.

He is currently living in a home with cats and things can be a little challenging keeping him separate from the cats. Which is why we are helping to spread his story in hopes of finding a better foster or even better an adopter for him without cats.

Zuko is just a big lap dog looking for an experienced dog parent.

If interested, please reach out and we will connect you with his advocate.

Piper is a beautiful 1.5 year old mixed breed girl who is just around 50 lbs. She was found tied overnight to the fence of a dog park, and a kind couple took her in to save her life.
Though initially shy with new people, she warms up pretty quickly and will soon give you kisses and ask for pets. She loves to snuggle and will lay her head in your lap and fall asleep. She does well with her foster mom while she works from home. When she is in public she is shy, but at home she is an outgoing lover even with strangers.
Piper is dog friendly and does well at the dog park. She is the best of both worlds in that she enjoys exercising but is also down to cuddle up on the couch. She loves to play with other dogs, and we feel she would do best in a home with another dog. She is crate trained, potty trained, and has great recall. She does not do well with cats.

To adopt her, please apply on www.orphanannierescue.org

With the upcoming New Year’s Eve holiday and the use of fireworks, it’s important to remember that our furry friends experience these celebrations differently. New Year’s Eve is fun for us but can be a frightening and overwhelming experience for our furry family members. The loud noises from fireworks can cause stress to our pets and result in unwanted situations.

Here are a few tips to follow for a stress-free day for both you and your fur baby.

1⃣️ Microchip and ID your pets. If your pet is not wearing a collar with an ID tag, NOW is the best time to get one. If your pet is not microchipped, consider getting one. Planned PEThood offers microchipping appointments. If you already have a microchip and ID tag, double-check that the information is up-to-date.

2⃣️ Work them out. Lots of exercise during the day, so they’ll be a little worn out before the scary noises of fireworks start. A tired pet is a calmer pet.

3⃣️ Keep your pets indoors. Loud sounds can scare your pet, causing them to run away. It’s best to bring them indoors and put them in a cozy spot.

4⃣️ Provide a safe, quiet place. Help your pets feel safe in a quiet, escape-proof room. Try to block out the light from outside.

5⃣️ Provide distractions. Focus your pet’s attention on other things, such as toys or treats. Use music, radio, or TV to mask the noise of the fireworks.

Do your furry family members a favor and make sure they’re well-protected and safe so they’re with you for many years to come! ❤️

Have a Happy New Year’s Eve!

Sweet boy Kirby is once again looking for his furever family.

Kirby is 6 years old, house-trained and crate-trained. He enjoys going on adventures whether that be car rides or hikes or playing in streams when the weather is nice. He is gentle around kids and adults. Has lived with cats and not shown any interests in them.

Kirby is smart, has manners, and knows commands. Enjoys playing with toys and games of fetch. Kirby is good around other dogs but he doesn't like to share tennis balls with others. He likes to play fetch one-on-one with his humans.

Kirby is a sweet and charming dog that is looking for his charming human counterpart.

Kirby is located in the metro Atlanta, Georgia area.

Three Paws Rescue

The founders of Three Paws Rescue have been involved in rescuing dogs and cats from ill fate for years and are passionate about saving the lives of furry friends. With the help of dedicated foster homes and great volunteers, this organization has been able to rescue dogs and cats.

Three Paws Rescue is primarily dedicated to rescuing the animals who need us most; we have a soft spot for seniors, fearful, and special needs dogs and cats from the local animal shelters to ensure they will get the care and attention they need before being adopted. Our goal is to ensure a good match between dog/cat and owner, so it is important to us to screen applicants well to avoid moving them over and over again. We are dedicated to our rescue animals for the rest of their lives.

We hope we can help you find your next companion, and if you don’t find what you’re looking for with our rescue, we encourage you to consider other local rescues to save a life who truly needs you!
