RIP Kallie 🤍

Kallie was part of the feral colony we tend to, and on May 13th, 2024 she came up to the car and laid down. She was extremely emaciated so we took her in with hopes of her making a recovery, and she was doing better. About a week ago she got sick and stopped eating and drinking. She tested positive for FeLV and was dangerously anemic. We decided the best thing for her was to let her be at peace. No more suffering. She got to live the last month of her life in a loving sanctuary with shelter and all the food she could want.

As always, we run 100% on donations. We’re asking for assistance with her vet bill.

Who are we?

AMEN Feline Sanctuary is a non-profit that provides shelter and care for 60 cats, most who have been diagnosed with various diseases, illness, and disabilities. Our cats range from 2 years old to 16 years old, with a few seniors who lost their humans and needed a loving home. In addition to these cats, we care for a feral colony of 15 cats.

It is run entirely by 2 people - Kelvin Brett and his daughter Cassandra. We provide them a safe and loving home and created this non-profit to help care for their food, vetting, and daily medicines that so many of these cats require. We believe each of these cats deserves the most loving, comfortable, and happy lives possible, and that is our mission.

Your donations help us tremendously, whether it be monetary or by donating items from our wish lists. We know that not everyone is capable of giving, so if you could just share our page with your friends and family, we would be so grateful! Sharing our non-profit is the greatest way you can help us!

Thank you so much!

100% agree!

Sigh.

We feel it's time for a PSA.

Our shelter has a policy that we'll take an animal you adopted from us back ANY time. Years down the road. This is the case with Butterfinger. He was adopted 12 years ago and returned this week.

Butterfinger is dealing with some issues we see in a fair number of returned cats/senior cats. He's very thin, he's drinking and urinating plenty (we'll be checking for diabetes), and because he was declawed (which is against our contract) he's suffering with arthritis. As a long haired kitty, he's also very matted along his back and hips. We've worked on him, but it seems we'll have to shave those mats off. He is actually really great for brushes. For several days he's laid down for us to work on loosening the tangles.

Here's the PSA...pets are a long-term commitment. A cat can easily live 20 years. A dog can live 12+, especially small breeds (we got an elderly senior back this week as well). They don't always love new, younger, rowdy pets brought into 'their' homes. If declawed, you'll likely deal with issues like arthritis and a general pissy mood (though Butterfinger is lovely).

Basically....please be in it for the long haul. Please consider the problems and trauma that come with declawing. If you don't want your furniture ruined, maybe try kitty caps or don't get a cat. Adopt a cat that's already declawed. Prepare yourself for behavioral or litter box issues as they age.

If you yourself are aging...make sure there's a plan for your pets. So many pets come to us having lived a perfect, spoiled life until their owner passes and they're put out or neglected.

If you don't want to deal with regular grooming, go with short-haired pets. Mats aren't just ugly. They're painful. Imagine your own hair tangled and pulling at your scalp. This applies for both cats and dogs.

Animals are oh-so-cute. Absolutely. We agree or we wouldn't do this. The ugly side of rescue is when we see a once loved pet feeling confused and neglected at no fault of their own. Not every home needs a pet. Not every situation is good for a pet. Pets are a lot of work, time, and commitment.
