Step-by-step grooming guide for Wheaten Terriers and Whoodles:

1. Brushing: Start by brushing your dog's coat thoroughly to remove any tangles or mats. Use a slicker brush or a comb designed for long, wavy coats. Work in sections, brushing from the roots to the tips, paying extra attention to areas prone to matting, such as behind the ears and under the armpits.

2. Trimming: If your dog's coat has become too long or unruly, you may need to trim it. Use grooming shears or clippers with a guard to maintain an even length. Be cautious when trimming around the face, paws, and tail, ensuring not to cut too close to the skin or sensitive areas.

3. Bathing: Fill a bathtub or a large sink with lukewarm water and wet your dog's coat thoroughly. Use a dog-specific shampoo and lather it gently into the coat, avoiding the eyes and ears. Rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of shampoo, as residue can irritate the skin. You can also use a conditioner if desired, following the instructions on the bottle.

4. Drying: After bathing, use a towel to gently blot excess water from your dog's coat. Avoid vigorous rubbing, as it can cause tangling or matting. You can then use a blow dryer on a low heat setting or allow your dog to air dry. If using a blow dryer, keep it at a safe distance from your dog's skin to prevent discomfort or burns.

5. Ears: Check your dog's ears for any signs of redness, discharge, or wax buildup. Use a dog-specific ear cleaning solution and a cotton ball or soft cloth to gently clean the outer ear. Avoid inserting anything into the ear canal. If you notice any abnormalities or persistent ear issues, consult your vet.

6. Nail trimming: Trim your dog's nails using a dog nail trimmer or grinder. Be cautious not to cut into the quick, which is the sensitive part of the nail that contains blood vessels and nerves. If your dog has clear nails, you can see the pink area indicating the quick. If unsure, it's best to seek guidance from a professional groomer or veterinarian.

7. Dental care: Brush your dog's teeth regularly using a dog-specific toothbrush and toothpaste. Introduce toothbrushing gradually and make it a positive experience for your dog. If your dog is resistant, you can use dental wipes, dental chews, or water additives to help.

Christmas gift ideas for your dog (and you)! 😉🥰

1. Plush and interactive toys 🧸 : Wheatens & Whoodles love to play, so consider getting them toys that are both soft and interactive. Look for toys with squeakers, crinkly materials, and different textures to keep them engaged and entertained.

2. Training treats and clicker 🐶 : Wheatens & Whoodles are intelligent and eager to please, so training treats and a clicker can help you teach them basic commands and tricks. Choose treats that are small, soft, and easy to chew.

3. Puppy puzzle toys 🧩 : Challenge your dog’s problem-solving skills with puzzle toys that hide treats or require them to figure out how to access the reward. This will keep them mentally stimulated and entertained.

4. Comfortable and stylish collar and leash 🐕 : Ensure your Wheaten or Whoodle is safe and comfortable during walks with a well-fitting collar and a sturdy leash. Consider getting a collar with a personalized ID tag for added security.

5. Soft and cozy bedding 💤 : Wheatens & Whoodles love to snuggle up, so provide them with a soft and comfortable bed that they can call their own. Look for options that are easy to clean and have removable covers.

BRINGING YOUR NEW WHEATEN/WHOODLE PUPPY HOME:
Bringing a new puppy home is an exciting experience, but it also requires a lot of preparation and patience. Here's a guide to help you make the transition as smooth as possible:

Before the Puppy Arrives:
1. Puppy-Proof Your Home: Secure loose wires, remove toxic plants, and make sure small objects that could be choked on are out of reach.
2. Gather Necessary Supplies: This includes a crate, food and water bowls, puppy food, chew toys, grooming supplies, a collar and leash, and a dog bed.
3. Choose a Vet: Research local veterinarians and choose one that fits your needs. Schedule a first appointment within the first week of bringing your pup home.
4. Decide on Rules and Training: Will the puppy be allowed on furniture? Where will it sleep? What commands will you start with? Establishing this early will help with consistency.

Bringing the Puppy Home:
1. Make the Ride Home Comfortable: The car ride home can be scary for a puppy. Bring a soft blanket and avoid loud noises to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
2. Give a Tour of the House: Let your puppy explore its new environment. Show it where the food and water dishes are, where it will sleep, and where it's allowed to play.
3. Introduce Family Members: Allow the puppy to meet each family member one at a time to avoid overwhelming it.

The First Few Weeks:
1. Establish a Routine: Puppies thrive on routine. Set specific times for meals, potty breaks, walks, and playtime.
2. Begin Training: Start with basic commands like "sit," "stay," and "come." Be patient and consistent.
3. Socialize Your Puppy: Once your vet gives the go-ahead, begin introducing your puppy to other dogs and people.

Remember, the first few weeks can be a big adjustment for both you and your new puppy. Offer lots of love and patience as your new furry friend gets acclimated to its new home.

Why choose A Whoodle Puppy?

1. Hypoallergenic: Whoodles, being a mix of Wheaten Terriers and Poodles, are hypoallergenic pets, so they are a perfect choice for pet lovers who suffer from allergies.

2. Temperament: Whoodles are known for their friendly and affectionate nature. They are great with children and other pets, making them excellent family dogs. They are also known to be intelligent, playful, and energetic.

3. Size variety: Whoodles come in different sizes (miniature, medium, and standard), giving potential owners more flexibility in choosing a pet that fits their lifestyle and living situation.

4. Low shedding: Thanks to their heritage, Whoodles are considered non-shedding dogs. This not only helps with allergies but also means less cleaning up.

5. Trainability: Whoodles are very intelligent and eager to please, which makes them relatively easy to train.

6. Long lifespan: Whoodles generally have a long lifespan, often living up to 15 years or more with proper care.

7. Good for active individuals: If you lead an active lifestyle, a Whoodle could be a great fit for you. They love to run, play, and go on walks.

8. Appearance: With their soft, curly coats and expressive eyes, Whoodles are undeniably cute. They come in a variety of colors, including black, white, brown, red, grey, parti, phantom and sable.

9. Healthy Breed: Whoodles are typically healthy dogs. With regular check-ups and a good diet, they can live a happy, healthy life.

10. Companionship: Whoodles are known to be very loyal to their families. They love to be around their people, making them excellent companions.

5 Fun Fall Activities For You & Your Dog To Do Together

Every season has its beauty and comforts, but we're especially keen on Fall. Not just because the trees become saturated with color and dogs start wearing adorable sweaters. There are also a bunch of Fall activities for dogs and their humans to do together.

We've put together a list of 5 Fall doggy-themed things that you and your pup can have a tail-wagging good time doing together!

1. Take a Hike

After the summer heat, cooler temps can be a relief for dogs, so your canine might appreciate outdoor activities more. Take advantage of your pup's newfound stamina and go on a hike or a long walk at a nearby park or in your neighborhood. Bonus points for choosing a place with gorgeous Fall foliage.

2. Bake Homemade Treats

Let's just call Fall what it is: the unofficial kick-off of baking season. It's when the oven turns on and yummy smells fill your home. And don't think for a second that your dog isn't aware of every delicious recipe you're whipping up. Avoid your dog's guilt-inducing, super-sad, puppy-eyes look and bake some pumpkin dog treats for your pooch to enjoy, too. (Recipe below 👇)

3. Enter a Pet Costume Contest

Pet costume contests are one of the cutest things that happen in the Fall. Find or make a hilarious costume for your dog and enter a competition. You and your pup can strut your stuff in a parade or at a Fall festival. There are even pet costume contests done completely online by submitting photos.

4. Play in Fallen Leaves

You have to rake leaves anyway so why not make it fun? Throw a bunch in the air and watch your pup jump for them. Dogs also adore rolling around in and leaping into a big pile of fresh fallen leaves. 🍂

5. Get Cozy

Fall’s crisp air seems to be an unspoken call to get cozy. Throw a snuggly blanket on the couch for cuddle sessions and movie nights with your pup! 🐶

PUMPKIN DOG TREATS RECIPE:

With just seven ingredients, these treats are easy to make. Simply mix the ingredients in bowls and combine to create the dough. Then knead, roll, and cut the dough into cookies and pop them into the oven. Not only are these treats easy to make, but you can get creative by using cookie cutters to make them whatever shape you desire.

Bake: 20 minutes
Total Prep Time: 55 minutes
Yields: Approx. 120 small treats

Ingredients :
2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
½ cup flaxseed meal
2 teaspoons ground turmeric
l egg, lightly beaten
⅔ cup reduced-sodium beef or chicken broth or water
½ cup canned pumpkin*
1 tablespoon honey

Directions:

Step One
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside. In a large bowl combine the flour, flaxseed meal, and turmeric.

Step Two
In a small bowl, stir together the egg, broth, pumpkin, and honey. Using a wooden spoon, stir pumpkin mixture into flour mixture until it’s well mixed. Using hands, continue kneading dough until fully combined (dough will be quite stiff).

Step Three
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to between 1/8” and 1/4” thick. Using 1 1/2” cookie cutters or a sharp knife, cut into desired shapes. Arrange shapes on prepared baking sheet. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until biscuits feel dry and firm (treats will continue to harden as they cool).

Step Four
Store treats in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.

Tips

*Use regular canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling.

Treats should make up no more than 10 percent of a dog's daily calorie intake.
