Maddies Meadows Rescue Maddies Meadows is a cat rescue/adoption service run out of my home in Owego, New York. I do not charge a fee for adoptions but I request a donation.
(8)

I rescue cats by testing them for Feline Leukemia, treating them for medical needs, getting them fixed and giving them a safe place to live while I try to find warm loving homes for them when they are ready for adoption. Donations are welcome at any time. Please send to: Maddies Meadows, Box 445, Owego, New York 13827

Hi I know I wasn't going to do any more, but just one more. This dear sweet cat needs a home..

Hi, my name is Ella. I am sad because I am between homes right now and am wishing and hoping for a nice family with a nice house with a window in which I can sit in front of and watch the world go by, especially if there any kind of critters for me to watch. I am considered very quiet and calm. I have not had an opportunity to bond with anyone lately so I need a little time to get used to you but then we will be best friends. I do like to sleep in my owner's bed if that is OK with you. I prefers dry food, Fancy Feast if you don't mind, but am not crazy about wet food. I do like the Tiki Cat stix for a treat (you can get them in pet stores I hear) and the Temptation treats. I will be getting fixed on Friday and then I will be available for adoption. If you are interested in adopting me you can call Nancy at 607 768-6575.

I am currently fixed and waiting for a nice person to claim me to be there own..

UPDATE: MAGIC IS BACK INSIDE!!! I TRAPPED HIM ON MY FRONT PORCH!!! Hallelujah!!!!!

One of my kitties got out! This is the second time in 12 years and in this horrible weather! He was last seen on Church St., Owego, NY I think he got out about 4 days ago, a door was not latched and he apparently pushed it open. Please call me at 607 768-6575 if you see him or if you know anyone in the Owego area who might have taken in a stray black cat within the last few days. He is shy, will probably run away so just let me know if you see him His name is Magic but he will probably not respond to it.

This was my best friend Maddie, whom I named Maddies Meadows after, my first kittie Willie and me, Nancy, owner and operator of Maddies Meadows since May 1, 2011. After much thought and prayer I have made the decision to end this service that I have provided for my community, mostly Tioga County, for approximately 12 years. It is very painful to step down from rescuing and helping the kitties but at the same time it is necessary. I am just getting too old to continue with the hard work required to take care of the literally thousands of cats that have passed through my doors. I will not be submitting anymore cat stories in the Pennysaver, but I will keep my page open until I finish up some of the cats that I am currently working on.

Maddie and Willie are both gone now but I know they have been watching my progress and struggles from afar. It has been a very memorable experience learning about all the kitty problems and hardships than you can even imagine and many that you can not imagine. I have had as many as 72 cats here at one time. I am currently sharing my home with 26 cats which I imagine will never be adopted because they have lived here so long, this is their home. Most come from a feral environment and have adjusted to me but strangers are still terrifying to them so if someone comes to check out the cats they usually run and hide. They are hard to adopt out if you can’t find them. Once you step inside the door all the cats disappear; they hide in the cupboards, under the couch or the sinks in the closet or under the bed. They know when people come cats disappear so two minutes after someone comes in the door it looks like I have maybe three cats and a lot of empty cages. My cats don’t live in cages, they run free but they enjoy having their own individual spaces so they do use the cages for their own cubby.

I have met a lot of wonderful animal-loving, cat people along the way and some not so wonderful but I choose to remember only the good ones. Countless people have stepped up to help me do what I could not do alone and I appreciate you all. Wendy, Thank you for allowing me to post my cat stories every week so people could meet and maybe find their next pet. To all the people who donated pet care items, food, etc. Thank you so much!! Thank you Diana for all the wisdom you imparted when I would call you in a panic with yet another sick cat or behavioral problem. Thank you to the volunteers who donated their time to help me along the way. Thank you to all the other Rescues and shelters who supported us. Thank you to Day Hollow Animal Hospital and other veterinaries over the years for the sensitive and kind treatment of my kitties that were hurting or needed treatment or surgery. Thank you Gail for working with me to help the kitties!. Thank you to the ladies that supported me by creating crafts, gift baskets and helping me with fundraising and Linda who allowed me to use her shop for these events! If I forgot anyone I am sorry I do appreciate you!.

To those who have been faithful donators I thank you so much!!! You have no idea how much I appreciated you!!! You were an answer to prayers!!. You can donate to some other local rescues now because they are still struggling with the costs of veterinary care, food, litter, etc. I am placing my faith in God to help me take care of the 26 cats I still have! Love, Nancy

Oh it’s you, I’ve been waiting to tell you about how I came to be at Gail’s house. My Mom was living in a trailer park when the woman who was feeding her discovered she was pregnant. The nice lady brought her inside so she could have her babies out of the cold. Then my two siblings and I were born. I was named after a tator tot that I found and ate when I got a little older. I am a boy and I have two sisters. I am around 7 months old now and have been fixed and had my shots so the lady who took us in says we’re getting too big, it’s time to move to a house where we will have more room to play. I’m certainly looking forward to that! I love to play and I am friendly too so if you are looking for a kitty to play with and to be your new best friend I would like to apply for that job! Why don’t you call Gail at 607 689-3033 and ask for Tator Tot. I would love to come and be your special kitty!!

If you would like to help Gail with her expenses she could sure use the help. You can send your donation to Gail Ghinger at P.O. Box 435, Owego, NY 13827. Thank you for helping her!!

Yo, Monroe here! You have met all my siblings; Madison, Montgomery and Michelle and last but not least, me, Monroe. I am about 8 months old and like the others I lived underneath a trailer in Candor. Not a grand start I admit but we managed. This nice lady fed us and looked after us as much as she could but when we all got eye infections she had to reach out to Gail to get us to the vet. Gail captured us all and got us taken care of at the vets. Look at my eyes! Don’t you think I have beautiful eyes!!! You know I am not infected anymore!! Now we are all looking forward to finding a new home now that we are all healthy.

I am very playful and like toys like my siblings. We didn’t have toys under the trailer. I think I am going to like living inside when someone adopts me because I like people and other cats if they like me. I am very gentle, I might be a good kittie with your children too as long as they don’t pull my whiskers or my tail. I don’t think I would like that! But I would like to live with and be loved by a family who wants to care for and love me. My temperament would be described as sweet. I’m pretty much perfect for you and your family, don’t you think. If you think your family might want to bring me home why don’t you call Gail at 607 689-3033 and ask for Sweet Monroe because we want to take him home and spoil him. I would like that!!

If you can help Gail with a donation she sure would appreciate you sending a check to Gail Ghinger, P.O. Box 435, Owego, NY 13827 to help her with all the vet bills. I know that you understand how much it costs to do all that she had to do with just us. She needs help!! Thank you!!!

Hi I am Michelle. I was born June, 2022 under a trailer in Candor with my 3 siblings. You met my brothers Madison and Montgomery in a previous posting. My brother Monroe will be next week . My Mom brought us out to eat some food that they were leaving for us. When we were about 2 months old the lady giving us the food said that we had eye infections and could not see well. She called this lady named Gail to come get us and make us better. There were 9 of us all together but my siblings and I were the sickest. We went to a vet and she gave us medicine for our eyes. My left eye does not look like it healed but the vet said that I have a birth defect, that eye is too small. No further medicine is needed. That’s OK I can see just fine with my other eye. I can still play, and roll around and be silly looking at you from upside down. I love playing with toys like balls with bells in them. They are the best.

I am healthy now so I am longing to be a part of a family who loves me and wants to take care of me. Will you let me come and play at your house. I will entertain you with my antics by the hour. I will be a joy to you and your family. I like other cats but I’m not sure about dogs but I bet if they like me I will like them. If you would be interested in meeting me you can call Gail at 607 689-3033 and ask for Michelle, I will be waiting anxiously!!

If you want to help Gail to pay all of her vet bills, because she really needs help with them, please send your donations to Gail Ghinger, P.O. Box 435, Owego, NY 13827. She really needs your help.

11/01/2023

Hello, my name is Arthur. I am quite an extraordinary specimen of male felines if you ask me. I live amongst a whole bunch of cats and it’s my belief they are all seeking a leader. Someone like me. I guess you might call me a dominant male cat wanna be. I just want to be the boss. Is there anything wrong with that.? I am a very striking and a handsome fellow. I feel I have taken control of all the upstairs cats because the only other male cat won’t come out from underneath the couch or the dresser anymore. My intimidation techniques worked nicely on him. Now I need to be dominant downstairs to make my kingdom complete. The lady who feeds us, Nancy takes me downstairs every day for a little while so the other male upstairs will come out from underneath the dresser for a breath of fresh air.

They have a big grey cat downstairs who has been checking me out. Nancy puts me in this room that has glass doors downstairs so we can see each other but not get at each other. This big grey cat just watches me while I put on quite a show, hissing and lunging at him. Strangely enough he does not seem to be impressed. he is older than I am so maybe he’s too old if you know what I mean? I think I am clearly the right cat to be dominant male but Nancy keeps harping on me about being too fierce and too aggressive. She does not like it. She thinks we should all just get along. What for if you are meant to be the leader? You have to be stronger and more fierce than all the rest. Right?

Well anyway Nancy sees my behavior as being a problem so she is hoping I can find a nice home without other cats so that I will not have to prove myself. I do like people very much. I will follow you around and lie on a bed close to you and sleep in your bed at night. I love being petted and I can be gentle , sweet and charming but if I roll over on my back and show you my belly, do not rub my belly! I can’t help myself I will grab right hold of you to demonstrate my fierceness. I do understand the word ‘NO’ so I will release you quickly but I just think you would want to know how fierce I am. So if you don’t have any little people running around and other cats that I can intimidate or elderly people for me to frighten then I think we could be a good match. You should have very good cat skills just in case though. I haven’t been around dogs but I’m guessing I probably wouldn’t like them.

So if you would be interested in meeting me call Nancy at 607 768-6575 and ask for that rascal Arthur, it makes me smile when she says that. I am a very good and loyal companion I will really impress you, I promise.

If you want to help Nancy to take care of all the cats she has here please send a donation to Maddies Meadows, P.O. Box 445, Owego, New York 13827.

hello, my name is Spry. I come from a broken home, my Dad got the dogs but apparently no one wanted us 5 kitties. The neighbors were feeding us but when the freezing rains came they called Gail who came out and captured three of us, my sister was pregnant and my brother needed eye surgery (thankfully he was adopted by the vet). When Gail showed up I was so relieved to be rescued I leaped right into her arms! I've been to the vets now it's time for me to find a home of my own. I just love people and I am sure that I could find a way to make you love me because I already love you! I am about 8 months old and am looking forward to meeting you and moving in with a family that I can spend the rest of my life with. I will be a good girl and you will never want to put me outside like the last family that had me. Please call Gail at 607 689-3033 and ask for Spry.

Gail wanted me to mention to you that she has her own P.O. Box now so if you want to send her a donation to help with all the vet bills that she has been getting please send your check to Gail Ghinger, P.O. Box 435, Owego, NY 13827. She would greatly appreciate it!!!

Hi there, I am a silver tabby named Meredith and I used to live on Erie St. in Owego. I was rescued in August and immediately afterwards gave birth to 5 kittens. Just one is left to be adopted. I am friendly and about 2 years old. I love to rub against you and just about everything else. I love getting attention and being petted and I’m very friendly. I have a zest for life and want to have a family of my own now, thank you. Look at my face, am I not just adorable? Can’t you see yourself with my soft warm fuzzy body next to you in bed? I promise to be your best friend if you will give me a chance to show you what a great find I am! I will love you forever and I am hoping you will love me back forever!! Please call Gail and tell her you want Meredith at 607 689-3033. I will be waiting for your call!

If you want to help Gail financially with a donation please send your check made out to Gail Ghinger and send to P.O. Box 435, Owego, NY 13827 or you can send your money to Nancy's Paypal account ([email protected]) but be sure to note that the donation is for Gail Ghinger. You can mention a specific cat’s name if you want to.

She is full. She is trying to get as many adopted as possible so she can catch up with vet bills, car repairs, etc. So please ADOPT!!!

hi there, my name is Jessibell, they asked me to pose so you could see my fabulous tail, so what do you think!? I know, I am fabulous all over but my tail is really nice. My second picture shows my startled look when I see spiders! I came from a colony of 16 cats, 9 of which were kittens, located on Glenmary Drive. I am approximately 5 months old and love playing with the other kittens. I was shy at first but since I got used to Gail I am friendlier now but I will need a little time to get used to you. I love it when you tickle under my chin. I will purr when you do that because I like it a lot!! I am playful and loving. I believe I am ready for a new home and a new family. I think that I can be a very good pet for you so why don’t you call Gail at 607 689-3033 and tell her you’d like to meet Jessi because you would like to give me a loving home. We can snuggle on the couch together this winter. I hope you call!!!

If you want to help Gail with the expenses of taking care of all of us kitties you can make out a check to Gail Ghinger and send it to Maddies Meadows, P.O. Box 445, Owego, NY 13827 or you can send it to Nancy’s Paypal account. her email address is [email protected] and mention it is for Gail Ghinger if that is more convenient for you.

Hi everyone, my name is Hillary and sad to say I was recently posted in this paper and adopted by a nice lady but it didn’t work out. I am a little shy and a family member thought I should be more friendly even though I didn’t see them very often so they decided I should come back. It makes me sad because I was trying but when you are shy it takes a little while to learn to trust people especially when you don’t see them very often. So I am back looking for my loving family. I can be loving and friendly if given enough time. Just please be patient. I will warm up to you and once I have established that you are the one for me I’ll be the best kitty you ever saw. I want to have a trusting and loving relationship with you as much as you want to have a friendly and loving companion. Once we meet you will be glad you found me and I will be the best pet you ever had. I just need another chance. If you are interested in adopting me please call Gail at 607 689-3033. I will be waiting for your call!!

If you want to donate to Gail to help her with all these vet bills and our upkeep please make out your check to Gail Ghinger and mail it to Maddies Meadows, P.O. Box 445, Owego, NY 13827.

Updated: Sissy has been adopted, Yaaaay!!!

Hi, we are Mister (tiger) and Sissy (orange). We have been here for a few weeks because our owner for our entire life had to go into a nursing home. We were left at the house for a while by ourselves and only Gail saw us once a day. Then I guess they had to sell the house so we had to leave and we came to Gail’s house. We are both very nice kitties. Mister is more social and friendly, likes giving kisses and loves people. He misses his owner so much. He wants to have a family again! He has a lot of love to give and longs for the loving caresses he used to get from his former Mom. Sissy is not as outgoing as Mister is; she is more shy. She is not aggressive, just shy. Given time she will no doubt respond to the love of a new family. She and Mister have been together since they were babies. They are indoor cats and would respond well to being adopted together. They could keep each other company and give you twice the love that you were hoping for in a pet.!! If you are interested in one or both of these delightful kitties please call Gail at 607 689-3033 and ask for us; Mister and Sissy. We will be waiting for you!!

The lady that is helping us now needs your help! Gail can not keep up with the financial demands of this cat rescue. In July and August she spent more than $2700 just on vet bills. Right now she has 11 cats that need to go to the vets; 2 females, 8 kittens and she just took in another pregnant mom. This will cost her a minimum of $1500. She does not have the money. She has exhausted all her resources and just withdrew money from her life insurance policy to get some of these kitties fixed.

Gail wants to continue rescuing kitties but she can not keep up with the vet bills to get them fixed since the cost of getting them fixed and looked at continues to go up every where she goes. If she can not get them fixed she can not get them adopted, then she has to feed and take care of them all. She can not do it anymore! She gets no grant money. The only money she has is her own money and the donations of those who give every month. She needs your help. Otherwise this rescuing kitties is unsustainable. As badly as she wants to keep doing it she knows she can not unless something changes. Please consider helping her with a generous donation to help her get the 11 kitties fixed and if you have any ideas how she can raise money on a regular basis your input would be appreciated. Send your donation check made out to Gail Ghinger to Maddies Meadows, P.O. Box 445, Owego, NY 13827. Gail appreciates your help!!

Hi, we are Sissy (orange) and Mister (tiger). We need help! Our Mom for our entire life went into a nursing home in June and we have been living in our house since then all by ourselves. We have had no human contact except with Gail who stopped once a day to feed us. Now we are being evicted out of our house. We will have to be put in cages at Gail’s house because no one else wants us. We are very nice kitties, about 4 or 5 years old. We don’t want to live in cages. Is there anyone who would like to adopt us and bring us home to your house. We promise to be good kitties.

My name is Mister, I’m the tiger kitty and I really enjoy being around people. I will cuddle with you and give you kisses and head bumps for encouragement, I understand people like that. We have been missing our Mom and interaction with people. We enjoy being petted and loved and talked to. We would love to be a part of a family again!

Hi my name is Sissy, I am a little more shy than Mister but I like people and I enjoy being petted . I would love to come and stay at your house and be a part of your family. Do you think you could learn to love me? I will try to be more friendly like Mister after I get to know you a littler bit. Please consider adopting us. We are lonely. If you would like to adopt us please call Gail at 607 689-3033 and ask for Sissy or Mister, we are looking forward to joining a new family

If you would like to help Gail by donating to help her to pay all the vet bills, just make out a check to Gail Ghinger and mail it to Maddies Meadows, P.O. 445, Owego, NY 13827

UPDATE: We are all going to Tractor Supply on September 10 for a meet and greet with the public on September 10, 2022. Come and visit with us!!!

Hey, we are the Three Musketeers. Our Mom came to live at Gail’s house on March 6 and we were born on March 11. We were lucky to be born at Gail’s house then because a big snow storm came in April and we would probably not have made it. Thank you Gail!!! The grey kitten’s name is Pigpen. I’m not sure how I got that unfortunate name but I have a problem with my left eye. The right one works fine so I’m good, I get around fine. And love to play with my siblings. Sally is a little dilute. Hi, I am Sally and we are all 4 months old. We have been fixed and had our shots and we all love to play. Especially with each other. The little Tiger is Linus. Hi I am Linus, I am also a little boy that likes to play and just be like all the other kittens.

We are ready to find a nice house with kind and loving people to take care of us and let us run and play like we want to. We enjoy each other’s company but we know most people don’t want three kittens all at once but maybe you could take two or if not one. We would very much like to start running and playing so if you are interested in any of us could you call Gail and tell her that you would be interested in one of the Three Musketeers!!! We’ll be waiting. We would be very excited to come to your house!!

If you want to help Gail by donating please make out your check to Gail Ghinger and send it to Maddies Meadows, P.O. Box 445, Owego, NY 13827. Thank you!!!

Hi Y'all, My name is Gwen and I personally think black is beautiful! I know I look a little disheveled here but I have been living in a cage at Gail's for 3 1/2 years. When I came I was feral but I have come to realize that people can be good and Gail has been taking care of all my needs for quite a while but I am ready for a home with a family that will love and take care of me now. I would love to be able to explore your home and get up in your window and watch the birds and squirrels and butterflies. I would love to be able to sleep on your bed with you sleeping close by. I would love to be able to run and play and jump up on your lap and sit while you watch TV. Maybe you can brush me and make me as beautiful as I can be. I hope that is not too much to ask because that is my dream. If you are interested in helping me to find my dream you could call Gail at 607 689 - 3033 and ask for Gwen. I will be waiting patiently for your call.

If you would like to donate to help Gail with some of her bills please make out your check to Gail Ghinger and send it to Maddies Meadows, P.O. Box 445, Owego, NY

23/06/2021

Hi there, I am Katie and I thank God I have been rescued! A nice lady by the name of Gail came and got me because I couldn't put any weight on my left front leg and I was living as a stray cat by the high school. When she took me to the vet for x rays they couldn't find any reason for me not being able to put weight on that leg. No fractures or breaks so they assumed it was nerve damage and were recommending to amputate my leg! Gail told them that she wanted to try massaging and physical therapy first. For two weeks Gail lovingly worked with my leg gently massaging and stretching it. Slowly I started to improve and I could put weight on it and then I started walking again! My leg is still a little tender but I'm walking on it. I am thanking Gail they didn't amputate my leg!

At the follow up exam they discovered Katie had an injury to her right eye. They treated her with antibiotics and pain medication and she seems to be better now although she has some scar tissue in that eye.

Now Katie is doing well and would like to go to a loving home to live out her life. She lived at Gail's house for approximately 9 months and it is estimated she is about a year old. Katie is very sweet, friendly and calm and she is looking forward to some loving family to come forward to claim her to be there own and to be loved and taken care of by their nice family. If you are interested in hearing more about Katie please call Gail at 607 689-3033. If you would like to donate to help Gail with the vet bills she has for her rescues please send your donations to Maddies Meadows, addressed to Gail Ghinger, P.O. Box 445, Owego, NY 13827
