I need to go to the vet today and they've given me some Gabapentin and Trazodone to help chill me out. I'm a bit woozy and not good on my feet. Mum says I'll be on a pink fluffy cloud, whatever that means!!

My mum takes me over the road to the park regularly, to let me process the world, watch people and make decisions based on how I feel. I'm not really ready to accept treats all the time, although I will eat a bit of sausage if thrown in front of me!

As you can see, I'm very alert! I was watching the men at the bowling club from a safe distance of about 50 metres away.

I didn't try to run when our next door neighbours came out, as we were coming back to the house, but I did freeze until they had gone and mum had to gently guide me across the road.

I'm still a work in progress. 😊

No idea why mum and dad were laughing at me.

It's been an exhausting day. Mum and I worked on walking down the street and the back lane. I got a fright when I saw a lady hanging out her washing!

This evening, we went to mum's friend Vivien's secure field. Vivien had her little Papillon with her. I hid for most of the time, but eventually came out to meet Minnie.

I was scared of Vivien but she made me feel safer by moving away. I was able to walk past her from about 20 metres away. She seems like a person that I'll be able to trust.

Hi !

I had a big evening yesterday. We went to my mum's pal's secure field to meet a wee ginger dog called Tilly, who was apparently Molly's best pal, as well as her owner. He has a booming voice, so I stayed away - I still need to learn that people are (mostly) safe. I knew Tilly was too old and didn't want to play, so we both just mostly sniffed away separately, hiding in the woods a lot, because it was cooler there.

This morning my mum cut my claws. We've been working on that, but I still needed sausages from dad to help, as I REALLY don't like getting my feet touched, they're very sensitive! Silly mum managed to cut my dew claw into the quick. I didn't yelp, but it's still sore! All wrapped up with dressing and some vet wrap as there was blood everywhere! She said something about getting a Dremel to help file my nails down, to make it easier.

Ahhh, learning to relax is good I still have so many fears, but they feel as though things are improving. Mum reckons it will take me a lot longer.

My claws are needing trimmed, so we're working on introducing the clippers. Also working on getting me used to a toothbrush; and I'm getting there with a few things!

I've got Bowser, one of mum's old students, staying tonight. We've played bite face, bitey ear and paw match all day. Also had a nice wee session at the adventure playground. 😁

We had a lovely walk in the sun. When we went out, the clouds were over and it was windy, but the sun came back out! We had plenty of water and didn't stay out for long..

I love it out there, I love having some freedom and it was nice to go out with my big sister too.

I think mum laughed far too much... 😳🙈🤣

'Ello!! Mum's back on FB now (she never stays away for long 🙄), so a wee pupdate.

I've been over in the park again, which definitely was more manageable for me this time. Mum says we'll sit under the tree this summer and just watch the world go by for wee stretches at a time.

I have been LOVING the new field so much, apart from a fright last week when a million cyclists appeared from nowhere (the only thing next to the field is a long driveway to the wee cottage there and mum's only ever seen the odd delivery driver there - what are the chances of this happening, I think my mum's a jinx 😉) unexpectedly and confused the hell out of mum and dad and scared me half to death. 😳🙈 It's fine though, I'm really resilient and we've been going regularly to get that confidence up.

Dad says he can't wait till I get offlead (although that might never happen) because my zoomies are a bit wild. 🤣🤣🤣

I have 2 more pals in the house, Pippin and Poppy. It only took us until the morning after they arrived to get on ok! I just can't settle with people yet, but everyone says it's ok, it will just take time. 🙂 We all went out last night to 'the field' and we all got our feet stung with nettles! I've never had that happen before! Ow!

When you're in a rebellious mood and sit on the human end of the couch. 🤣

Seriously though, I was meant to go for a 'quiet' visit to the vet this week, just to see the surgery, and get weighed, but mum had to take me to get seen yesterday because she found a worm in a little bit of sick.

We are on the list to do the confidence classes, but this couldn't wait. I had had non-prescription flea and worming, so maybe this helped to start eliminate them from me, but now I have had proper medication. Thankfully there have been no fleas or mites.

Sorry this is a disgusting topic, but it's so important that your dogs are on the right medication, but the vet won't prescribe without giving them a check over first and check the weight to allow the right medication to be administered.

I was so nervous, that I poo'd myself in the surgery. But I stood on the scales by myself! Even though the male vet was lovely with me, I was still extremely scared.

I wore my muzzle, which we've been training, just in case, but I didn't react. I let my mum show my teeth and gums to the vet, he said they looked very well.

Worming and flea treatment are so important for your dog's wellbeing, and even though my first visit to the vet didn't go as it was meant to, it needed done.

I'm looking forward to the confidence classes. Again, an important part of being a responsible dog owner - many dogs really struggle with their vet visits.

A sign of trust. I turned onto my back and let my mum give me a belly rub. 🥰D x💜🐾

This is me skiddling in the pond while dad's helping the tadpoles. I loved it.

Mum has put more videos in the comments that show different stress signs, like a paw lift, ears extremely alert, lip licking, puffing my cheeks.

I have had a wonderful (but worried too) 1st birthday so far, and mum and dad don't think I know about the goat leg for later!!

We went to their favourite secret field, which has the most beautiful pond (it was full of tadpoles and dad stopped to help the wee tadpoles out of the mud by creating a wee outlet for them).

I had a paddle in the pond. They forgot the Paintball might have been on nearby, but I ended up getting so involved in my adventure that they didn't scare me after a while.

I am so sleepy now. 🥱

PS, mum says she's going to post some videos.

Taking in the sounds in the late sunshine. I was a wee bit out of sorts earlier as Boo went home. But it's my 1st birthday tomorrow and mum and dad are taking me to the special field where they used to walk Shadow and Molly!

So different on my second visit to the field. Look how I'm playing with Boo. 😁

Mum says the video in the comments is a good wee display of communication, little play bows to instigate play! Boo had to stop at mum because she wanted treats! 🙈

I don't do kisses, I do a full on eye inspection, including an eyeball lick!D x😉🐾

We played bitey-face. It looks ferocious, but we were having a great time - we spent ages doing it!

This video shows our body language - when we both realised it was getting a bit much, we stopped, mirroring each other again by sniffing. That's how we calmn ourselves down from play and lets the other dog know too.

Oh my, everyone's so happy! This is the progress I've made with Boo! We're now in the living room together!

Mum took my special yak chew and bone from my bed, just in case. We've been checking each other out in carefully managed sessions and here we are!

I'm in my bed and Boo's on the couch. I got a bit worried then, because mum was there, but I chilled out pretty quickly.

I'm playing proper tug now and I've been loving playing with that rope. It's the only tug toy I like so far! I love the snake too, it gets filled with treats for me to find!

Mum's been splitting her time between me and Boo as we're in separate rooms, for safety. I'm guarding the things in my bed, because I'm scared that someone will take things from me. Mum says that's pretty normal when you have a background like mine and we'll work on feeling safe.

20/04/2024

I've been trying to play with Boo! Just a couple of times, but in the living room. 😊

My mum booked the secure field for us last night, but I didn't want to go. 😬 Boo had a great time though! 😁

I'll hopefully go next time!

Here's me doing a wee bit of hand target training. Mum says this is one of the most useful things I can learn. It helps me to focus if there is something in the environment that is worrying me, it helps me learn to walk on the lead and to come back, amongst other things!

As you can see I'm still really alert, so only tiny sessions at a time just now!

We also went to wander down the back lane when the scary sounding dog over the back started his shouting! So we turned back into the garden.

Awww, my mum and dad were SO relieved to find no destruction this morning.

I was scared they wouldn't want me any more. My mum says she understands that as she was adopted in difficult circumstances too, and that it's never going to happen to me.
