Kangal dog protecting its' owner from a bear. Kangal is magnificent dog, very big, muscular and athletic and has been used by shepherds for protection against wolves and other predators for centuries. And they are really good at their job. They used to live in harsh terrain and climate, which made them very tough dogs.
Dogs like Kangals are a necessity , if you co-exist and share land with wild animals.Dogs can be your first line of defence, if you are attacked by a wild animal. Plenty of stories are shared online, where dogs have even died protecting their owners. Dogs engaged the wild animals and gave owners enough time to escape. Researchers tallied 664 attacks on humans during the 15-year study period, including 183 in North America, 291 in Europe, and 190 in Russia, Iran and Turkey. There were more than 60 other attacks in Japan, Nepal, and south eastern Europe in which not enough information was available for their inclusion in the analysis. The attack rate is about 40 attacks per year globally, with 11 attacks per year in North America, 18 per year in Europe, and 19 per year in the East Russia, Iran and Turkey. About 14 percent of the attacks resulted in human fatalities, including 24 deaths in North America, 19 deaths in Europe, and 52 in the East Russia, Iran, and Turkey. They were shepherding in mountains and were used to go for a long distances all the time, which makes them really strong and agile. Their speed is very impressive for their hight and weight. They can weigh up to 65 kgs and grow up to impressive 85 centimetres. The breed is not selected for good obedience. They should decide what they have to do on their own, because usually no shepherd is with them when they guard the sheep.
Kangals are therefore very dangerous dogs for an untrained owner. If your child is fighting with a friend, the dog might intervene and bites the friend , if he decides that this is the right thing to do. However, with early socialising they can be great family pets. It depends on the circumstances and how they were raised. Of course if they were raised to protect livestock then they would be aggressive towards strangers and other dogs. But if raised to be a family pet, then with early socialising they can turn out to be great family dogs. So despite being ideally suited to a working life protecting stock, Kangals do make for good family pets. Kangals are very brave, loyal, and are pretty predictable and reliable.
They are alert, independent, territorial, and protective of the domestic animals or humans with which they have formed a bond.
This brave Kangal did what it was supposed to do, by stopping the bear from chasing its' owner.
The bear looked quite young though but was big and strong enough for a Kangal to handle it alone. Still the dog showed tremendous courage, and managed to stop it from going after its' owner. Kangals perform a lot better in packs , as its easy for a pack of dogs to fend off an animal as big as a bear. Very few dogs can stand in front of a bear on their own but this particular dog showed its courage and loyalty to its' owner.
