An update on Fred. Fred has found a loving and safe home without the threat of being let go or having his neck snapped. A big shout out to Samantha Law for saving his life. I can’t believe this bird was described as being unfriendly and gone a bit off the rails. Just look at how happy he is sitting on his new owners shoulder.

Wow!!!! I can’t believe we have reached 500 followers on Facebook! Thank you thank you so much to the new followers and the ones who have been with us for a while. If you had asked me a few years ago that I could have reached this milestone I would have laughed. All your support means the world to me and the flock.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. We definitely align with everything that is said in this post. There is a reason why some animal rescues have to have an on-site therapist/councillor.

This poor silver eye bird has been taken to the vet after being found on someone’s driveway in this heat. He or she is either suffering from heat stress or possible collision with a car/window.

I apologise for the late update. Just want to let everyone know that we are safe and out of danger now. Thank you so much to everyone who has been offering to help these last few days, especially with offering aviaries and cages to look after the birds. I feel like I can let out a big sigh of relief now. The community support has been absolutely amazing. While the fire didn’t get super close to us, I am glad that I over reacted and started planning to evacuate anyway.
I am available to help transport injured wildlife to rescues or vet clinics. I have notifications on so just message. I will not be going into the fire zone.
It’s all of a sudden gotten a bit serious but we are safe. The wind isn’t blowing in our direction and we remain vigilant. We have not started catching the birds yet but have prepared all the cages and marked them with which birds are going in. I am putting feelers out for people with aviaries just incase. If you have a spare aviary please message me with its size, birds suitable for and your phone number. Thank you everyone.
Thank you to family and friends who have expressed concern about the fire that is close by. We are all safe, including the birds. We have had the sprinklers on all day to keep the birds nice and cool. The wind is not blowing in our direction and we aren’t in any danger right now. Of course we remain vigilant. My heart goes out to those affected by this fire.

Look at this amazing photo of the bird sanctuary! Although it only shows half of the bird aviary. I am very lucky that I live in a beautiful location, surrounded by nature. The birds love to call out to the wild visitors which includes black cockatoos and bandicoots.

I am at this great event and already learning so much. Although I am not a wildlife rehabilitator, some of the skills and knowledge can still be applied to pet birds. For example; wildlife first aid, stress management, triage ect

On the 10th of April 2024, Jack the Galah, arrived at the bird sanctuary. He is one of the legacy birds as his previous owner passed away recently and so he needed a new home. He is absolutely full of character and loves a good head scratch. Although he was the only bird at his previous home, Jack was very much loved and doted on. I can tell he misses his previous family which is why I spend a lot of time with him. He is currently in a cage as we are not sure how he will get along with the other birds. However, Jack still has a birdie friend in the cage next to him. Thanks to patreon contributions, I am able to buy him toys to keep him busy and entertained. I have a pet dog called Elsie who sometimes comes sniffing around the cage who Jack absolutely loves. He will jump to the bottom of the cage to be closer to her. I can’t believe how far, Kevin the Galah, has come. When he first arrived at the sanctuary he was covered in dry blood from self-mutilation. Now look at how happy he is!! Molly the red-tailed black cockatoo enjoying some pine cones. Did you know that while pine cones are not native to Australia, black cockatoos have adapted to eating them. I can’t believe this gorgeous boy hasn’t been snapped up yet. He is incredibly sweet and loves lots of head scratches. He has come so far in trusting humans as he used to be very scared. He doesn’t bite at all, only nibbles. He used to be in the aviary but didn’t get along with the other birds so I had to put him in a temporary cage. After a lot patience and trust-building, I managed to get Jock, the gang gang cockatoo to step up. I am a big advocate on taking the careful patient approach when it comes to interacting with birds. I do not force them to be near me but rather let them in their own time choose to come to me. On social media, you will see videos of people holding birds in a tight grasp with no room to leave and unless you know the signs, you would have no idea that that bird is terrified. I’ve seen people starving/fasting their birds so that it forces them to obey the humans during training. Not the typical rescue! This kookaburra was found nearby on the side of the road but before I could take him to a wildlife rescue he recovered quickly and flew off. - This is Rosa-Linda the Regent parrot, commonly known as a smoker parrot. Her age is unknown, although I’ve known her since I was about 13 years old so I suspect she is now 11. She was originally owned by an elderly gentleman who became a family friend that we visited a couple of times a year. The man passed away a few years ago, but she still lives on in a safe and loving environment since arrangements were made for her. This is why it’s very important to make sure your pets have somewhere to go to if you pass away - especially for birds, as a lot of people don’t realise that they can outlive humans. There is a lot of trust between myself and Lennon the long-billed Corella. A few visitors to the sanctuary, are shocked and scared by her long beak. She is definitely only a one-person bird and doesn’t like strangers. However, even though she is by herself, she has friends next door who can keep her company. It’s worth noting that I made a mistake in this video by touching her feet.
