On the 10th of April 2024, Jack the Galah, arrived at the bird sanctuary. He is one of the legacy birds as his previous owner passed away recently and so he needed a new home. He is absolutely full of character and loves a good head scratch. Although he was the only bird at his previous home, Jack was very much loved and doted on. I can tell he misses his previous family which is why I spend a lot of time with him. He is currently in a cage as we are not sure how he will get along with the other birds. However, Jack still has a birdie friend in the cage next to him. Thanks to patreon contributions, I am able to buy him toys to keep him busy and entertained. I have a pet dog called Elsie who sometimes comes sniffing around the cage who Jack absolutely loves. He will jump to the bottom of the cage to be closer to her. Jack will always have a permanent home here and is not available for adoption.

Anybody else have a big ear biter? 🤣

I can’t believe how far, Kevin the Galah, has come. When he first arrived at the sanctuary he was covered in dry blood from self-mutilation. Now look at how happy he is!! He absolutely loves his head scratches.

We do not advocate for breeding but this mama quail is very good at hiding her nest so sometimes we wake up to surprises such as this.

I am so sorry for the silence on my end and for not posting in a while. Sometimes running the bird sanctuary takes a lot out of me and I want to give up. However, its moments like these, as seen in the video, that bring a lot of joy into my life. We have had a couple of new additions to the flock so keep an eye out for their introductions. If you would like to help in any way comment below or message me. Thank you. -

Well this video answers the question… how many birds can fit on Emma’s arm? 😅

Molly the red-tailed black cockatoo enjoying some pine cones. Did you know that while pine cones are not native to Australia, black cockatoos have adapted to eating them. This is because a lot of their habitat has been destroyed and therefore their natural food source as well.

I can’t believe this gorgeous boy hasn’t been snapped up yet. He is incredibly sweet and loves lots of head scratches. He has come so far in trusting humans as he used to be very scared. He doesn’t bite at all, only nibbles. He used to be in the aviary but didn’t get along with the other birds so I had to put him in a temporary cage. I believe with a slow introduction he could get along with another galah.

After a lot patience and trust-building, I managed to get Jock, the gang gang cockatoo to step up. I am a big advocate on taking the careful patient approach when it comes to interacting with birds. I do not force them to be near me but rather let them in their own time choose to come to me. On social media, you will see videos of people holding birds in a tight grasp with no room to leave and unless you know the signs, you would have no idea that that bird is terrified. I’ve seen people starving/fasting their birds so that it forces them to obey the humans during training. Please forgive my stuttering and strange voice in the video, I’m not used to videoing myself.

Look at this close up of a beautiful male alexandrian. I was trying to get a video of him eating a pine cone but he decided he was more interested in looking at the phone. -

Kevin the Galah is a very talkative and loud bird but sometimes he likes to whisper nonsense that I cannot understand. 😂

The alexandrians love their fruit and veg 😊 Wanting to help but not sure how? Why not consider sponsering a bird by becoming a member on patreon. Lots of behind the scenes footage and photos.

Not the typical rescue! This kookaburra was found nearby on the side of the road but before I could take him to a wildlife rescue he recovered quickly and flew off. Safe to say he got the last laugh in there. 😂 -

It’s very hot in Perth so the birds are enjoying the sprinkler system to keep themselves cool. Don’t forget to put out water for our wildlife.

- This is Rosa-Linda the Regent parrot, commonly known as a smoker parrot. Her age is unknown, although I’ve known her since I was about 13 years old so I suspect she is now 11. She was originally owned by an elderly gentleman who became a family friend that we visited a couple of times a year. The man passed away a few years ago, but she still lives on in a safe and loving environment since arrangements were made for her. This is why it’s very important to make sure your pets have somewhere to go to if you pass away - especially for birds, as a lot of people don’t realise that they can outlive humans. Rosa-Linda now has a permanent home at the sanctuary and one of her favourite things to do is shower under the sprinkler system and eat healthy pellets.

There is a lot of trust between myself and Lennon the long-billed Corella. A few visitors to the sanctuary, are shocked and scared by her long beak. She is definitely only a one-person bird and doesn’t like strangers. However, even though she is by herself, she has friends next door who can keep her company. It’s worth noting that I made a mistake in this video by touching her feet. The only safe place to scratch a bird is their head.
