I am super proud of Encore.
This is our first time doing a return to sit from a down at a distance.
I think my sister would be proud of this little girl.
Encore is doing so good at her down from a distance. I was only able to go put about a foot. Yesterday I was about 4 ft from her.
Before I know it we will be across the room from each other.
Beginning training down at a distance
We all start at the same place the very beggining. With time and patience and committment we all get to the end results of training.
I know a lot of people that see a dog do a trick or compete in a sport and they try it and it doesn't go the same way as the dog as at a higher level and they quit.
Each time you practice it will get a little better until one day you are just amazed that the two you accomplished that hard trick or sport.
Encore and I are learning to down at a distance. We just started this trick. This is our second session. The first day I had to stand right in front of her today I was about 1 foot away. Pretty soon we will be downing from 15 ft or more.
Dont give up! Don't give up on your canine partner or yourself!
If you are looking for a fun short challenge. International Canine Events is hosting a Valentines challenge.
I started this morning with Purple Reign.
10 seconds all 4 feet on something mostly red!
Lol training Encore to walk backwards. Brought back memories of training Valor to do this trick. I worked so hard to get Valor to walk backwards. Now Valor will walk backwards in front of me through the whole house. Lol
I know Encore will get it. It just takes time and patience.
Today was Renegades day for morning training. We have done all kinds of Ninja challenges. He has lots of ribbons and titles through International Canine Events. I forgot I got his AKC number until this morning. I decided we would get some trick dog titles.
We did go to your kenneland stay until released.
We tried fetch lol he doesn't do that very well. 🤣🤣
One of the reasons I video myself training is so I can catch stupid mistakes.
I messed up the cues on this trick.
I want going around me to the right to be "circle " and around to the left "twist". I messed up on the first bit I was saying trust and praising when in fact I was hand cueing a circle. I realized what I was doing when I got treats out of my pocket. Started doing it correctly. Lol
Always tape yourself if your dog isn't understanding the behavior it might be your giving mixed signals.
I have been working with Purple Reign, Credence and Encore on AKC Trick Dog titles.
I was so happy with Encore and her ringing the bells this morning. She is also doing well with the last one needed for her intermediate title. We are doing sit pretty. She can do it she can't hold it long.
Practice run of some obedience behaviors
The local dog club Paul Bunyan Dog Training Association is moving forward with hosting an Obedience Trail in conjunction with the Annual UKC Conformation/Rally show that is held in September.
I decided that I would like to enter Renegade in the fun match and in the future trail. We will need to start brushing up on all his obedience.
We did a small practice run yesterday morning. The thing with Renegade is he doesn't like too many repetitions of a behavior. You have to keep things new and engaging with him.
I think he will have fun getting back into Obedience training.
Share a photo or video of any recent training you have been doing.
We did some scent work this morning.
We have a buried scent work trial this coming Saturday.
Notorious did great. Credence was his wild child self.
Working with rescues is no easy feat. Gary Lee has been a challenge in gaining his trust.
I am not sure what triggers him to suddenly stop coming in the house or coming to us at all when outside. In the house he comes to us no matter where we call from. The bedroom, bathroom, living room. He comes trotting just happy. Outside some days he is right there and others he runs and hides under the deck. There have been nights I have been up until 2 in the morning working trying to get to come through the door.
Today was a good day he was right there he gave me a couple of sits. I don't make him sit often because his pelvis was broken before I got him. We assume a car hit him. He couldn't walk when he came here.
Righteous is the opposite he won't leave my side.
A day in the life of rescue dogs.
Working on squaring up that sit.
How does your dog?
Are thier feet tucked under them? Do they shift and sit on one hip?
Do they struggle to keep their feet under them on different flooring?
