Kilkenny Dog Training Club is set up to promote non blood dog sports, encourage responsible dog ownership , help people unlock the potential and enjoy their dogs. We promote exercise for dogs and owners with training as a realistic alternative to euthenasia and surrendering dogs to rescue centers .

November 27th, December 4th, and December 11th, we will be holding drop in obedience classes before Christmas.
We return 8th of January with our 7 week courses and drop in advanced class.
These are all Wednesday evening at 8pm in the Old Scouts Den on the Bennetsbridge Road.
Our courses are prebooked and our drop in is for anybody who has completed training with us before.
We don't turn away dogs for any breed or age but do note not every dog is suitable to go straight into class environments. Please give us a message if you aren't sure if your dog needs to start with a homevisit or a class.

Our next intake will be next Wednesday the 2nd of October.
This will be Wednesdays at 8pm for 7 weeks and will run through a range of obedience tasks and puppy manners. We take all ages once the dog will succeed we are happy for them to join. If a class may be too much we can also offer home visits.
All you have to do to book is message in and we will send forward a payment link

Drop in class won't be going ahead tonight due to unforseen circumstances but the course will still be going ahead. So if you are in with Billy normally come as normal. If you normally have Ari we will need to skip tonight unfortunately.

New course starting Wednesday for loose lead walking, recall, puppy training and general manners.
80 euro for the course, payable upon booking, all you need to do is message in!
Our trainers were at yet another show this weekend so any messages not yet gotten back to will be gotten back to today. Thank you for your patience

And that's a wrap 😄
Billy's course has finished up their last night, Enzo, Poppy, and Rolo all did fantastic and have really been a pleasure. We had two little doggies out tonight who have also been fabulous!
We gave out some of the fabulous good citizen rosettes that were achieved in Tramore. A well done to Drako and Enzo on Puppy and Bronze.
And while not often done we did have a little party for the dogs with some very yummy cake, loads of easy going tricks, and some goodie bags to take home! Special causes cause for parties and tonight was bitter sweet as we had to say goodbye to our good friend Drako and of course his wonderful family. Drako will be moving country but promises to come back on his holibops to visit us again and get his silver and gold good citizen 😉

Our trick class was lovely tonight with some happy dogs. We started with a few basics and moved on to bang and stand! Well done puppies!

In Puppy we had Drako, Bob, Picasso, and Ellie. All passes 😊
In Bronze we had Drako, Enzo, and Bob, again all passed 🙏
Every one of you did fantastic and I still am obsessed with the positivity from Bob's mammy as he was being tested. Constantly telling him he was great and a good boy 😍

Drako did us all very proud in Gee Haw Dog Training this morning taking 1st place in prebeginners after a tie breaker with Saoirse from Carlow Dog Training Club,
Very well done! Second time competing and very good result.

Our new trick training class starts Wednesday the 22nd and we are very excited.
Ari embarked on a trick journey with her Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mike last year after spotting an ad for the trick stars with Canine Coaching Ireland.
Shes inspired a lot of our Carlow club members, completed all the awards since, awards that are long gone and moved on to achieve the Do More With Your Dog awards in America with her Iron Mike Tyson after completing 64 tricks as he stood in one day, which they achieved six awards for.
Trick training isnt just for the awards, they just give motivation to keep training and work towards something.
Trick training allows you to go out with your dog and just have fun, it's the only goal. If your dog doesn't roll over thats okay we can do something else. It allows you to just have a laugh, sometimes literally, and relax with your dog while providing the building blocks for strengthening your bond, increasing engagement, and of course having a very snoozy dog after!
If you'd like to join in please give us a shout. Trick training is suitable for any dog.

TT demonstrating set down and wait in class

Not often Ari is left speechless but Wilbur has gone and done it! This is our third session with Wilbur. We started with a private lesson. Our first week was hard, we missed last week due to feeling sick, and this week we started rough but with a slight change in method swanned through class and this was just the beginning. Wilbur really wants to play with other dogs but he isn't quite sure on how to say it and it can come across in another manner. Wilbur started today with a walk in the park and he met plenty of dogs that he did not react to. Some difficult situations too. Tonight he was walking within inches of other dogs and remaining focused and in heel position. This came from barking his way through the first class. What a turn around! What a brilliant turn around. The likes of Wilbur and his owners are fantastic to see and we love seeing the change in the dogs over sometimes just a few lessons or sometimes over months. We believe that should Wilbur and his Dad continue as they have been they will be an incredible example of rescue dogs and how well they can fit into a new home with some work to help them! No more than if you got a puppy! Well done Team Wilbur
