Trying to preen herself after her bath and blowdry.
Pretty Phoebe!
My chickens have been laying eggs in the hardest to access area of their whole compound. Either they've gotten lazy...or they're sick of sharing. Hahaha! #angiesacre2024 #angiesacre
Breakfast time for Phoebe! My 6 week old crossbeak pullet.
It's taking a "dust bath" in my pile of laundry. Specifically, my robe. It's the cutest, silliest thing! Maybe I should give them a bin to take their dust baths in.
Neat view of air bubbles inside a dropped egg that cracked. I peeled away a little more of the shell to get a better look at it. #angiesacre2024 #angiesacre
Volume on! Frog symphony at the pond by work.
1st of the Olive Eggers, and 1st in the other unit! (Chick #8)

A day from "lockdown" and a couple are starting to move! This wasn't even the one I was trying to catch on video! Sneaky! Day 17!!

Phoebe was looking rough around the edges, so, I gave her a bath. She ended up enjoying it very much.

Cracking 3 different eggs, to demonstrate that there's no real difference on the inside. The shell is simply art. I had to speed it up or make 2 parts. I sped it up. Watch! Let me know what you think, and if you want to see more egg demos, from my hens. #scrambledeggs #marans #greenegger #easteregger #crackingeggs #angiesacre #angiesacre2024
In this video, I crack 3 eggs, from 3 separate hens, to demonstrate that there is no difference on the inside of the egg. So, if someone gives you a rainbow dozen, or a dozen blue or brown or white or pink with purple spots... they taste the same! (The latter is an actual egg I get, it changes color when I wash the bloom off... but that's a video for another time.)

This is Phoebe. She has a cross beak. A fluke that nobody seems to agree has a single cause. Undoubtedly, it started as she developed in the shell. Whether it was shell position, incubator conditions, or genetics, there isn't anything that can be done to fix it, or stop it. It's been gradually getting worse over her 2 weeks of life. Together, we've found a good texture of food for her to eat. It's best as a slurry, made of chick crumble, warm water and in the evening, egg yolk-though she will attempt to eat anything. She gets excited when she she's me get her special dish. It wobbles so she can position it just right. For a while, half of it would tip out. Then I put another dish under it... cuz...duh. now it's not so messy. She does still "fling" a lot of it, hence the spatter on the cardboard. But. She's eating. Her crop is getting nice and full during her special feeding seasons away from her clutch mates. I think she'll be ok.
(Ignore the mess. It's been a learning process for both of us)
