It is with a heavy heart that I announce the end of High(er) Hopes Dog Training. This has been an amazing experience but due to health complications the journey must come to an end. Thank you so much to all my amazing clients. And to everyone, thank you for the support.

Justice prevails!

As some may already know I have been working for a couple months now with a family to remove a very unjust title of aggressive dog from their family dog.

There was an unfortunate incident where a young lady was injured by this dog but upon evaluation the dog is not at aggressive and not dangerous. This seems to have been a one off situation and who knows who provoked it the details are very cloudy.

The point is the case went to court this morning and the portion labeling the dog aggressive has been thrown out. A big win for dog advocacy in a world where dogs truly have no legal rights.

My sister-inlaw's puppy is coming to stay a while to get some training and we are ready!

This picture is a prime example of how to maintain control and stay cool. Get creative and use tools for management. Here I've used a series of baby gates to create a boarder around the crate. This way she will be able to take in her surroundings without the other dogs getting too close causing additional first day stress.

Dog Training really isn't overly difficult IF you are setting yourself up for success.

This was the perfect way to start my day.
Layla was probably the most aggressive dog I've worked with to date. Alot of hard work and time has gone into Layla and it just warms my heart to see her and her family succeeding!

Clifford only has 3 days left! The reactivity is getting better and better. This weekend we will try a safe, soft introduction with helper dog Solomon.

I haven't posted any updates for a while since I've been a bit under the weather. Pictured here is Clifford who is in for a 3 week board and train to help with leash reactivity/animal reactivity.

I spent some time with Clifford in the past to help him resolve his speciation anxiety.

See here how calm and relaxed Clifford is with Enzo just a few feet away, 2 weeks ago this would have been impossible. Clifford has just one week to go but I'm super excited to see how much further he can progress in that time.

Fun fact: Enzo and I are both E-collar trained.
I haven't used the E-collar with Enzo in quite a while so we're both a bit rusty but we've gone back to the basics for practice recently.

Today is both sad and exciting. I had to say goodbye to my new friend Mason as his 6 weeks of board and train came to an end.

A big issue for Mason has been guests leaving. That is the worst for him for barking as well as lunging at people. Big big improvements in this video as he remains seated and only let's out a few growls/wines.
He's really starting to accept that the bad behavior only brings him trouble.
He also did a great job looking back to me for direction, that is when I would pet and encourage him.

Here's Mason working on his PLACE command and YES release. Aside from all of the usual helpful relationship and communication building this provides. This will also be a helpful command giving him a job to focus on to draw his attention from his trigger (people in the home) and ultimately devalue giving into his impulsive reactivity.

After nearly 3 long weeks Mason is finally comfortable enough to give in to his food drive and begin his training. Here we spent a little time introducing the "place" command.

Mason with alot of progress tonight! He's seen here taking the next step fully immersing his head to eat his dinner. He did alot of pick and drop, the next step is getting him to stay in there and eat all of his food without pulling out.
