Here is a little glimpse on how much it costs to raise a hen to laying age. This is why breeders set thier prices the way they do. Silkies are not cheap. Especially if you are looking for breeder/show potential birds 🫶🏻

Add in the ivermectin, elector psp, toltrazuril, sanitizers(oxine), red cell, all the herbs, black oil seeds, all the BOYS, and loss😭 Raising to maturity is TOUGH! Lots of blood sweat and tears are poured into these precious beauties. It’s so far from a cheap hobby, but they are so worth it!

✨ Happy Tuesday ✨

Another question for other breeders. 🫶🏻 As of right now, every bird I have are from 3 different beeeders. I DO NOT have my own line just yet. It’s a LONG work in progress. I’m going to keep some (for breeding) and I have to start culling… because, you know… chicken math 😅

My question is when it’s time to make cuts, how do you “cull” other breeders line? Thank you 🙏 I’m open to constructive criticism for beginner breeders as well 😊
