Another busy day at paws. No matter how old or how young they are. They all master the "please feed me" eyes lol. Today we have been having fun in the garden and making good use of the agility equipment. (Videos to follow) we have been on a river walk with the younger ones and shorter walk but just as much fun with the less able /older ones.

[NOTE: This photo is just picture of a pond in the summer. NOT a picture of a pond with the toxin.] Cyanobacteria can have many different looks, including not being visible at all. Link to Kentucky Division of Water for more photos and information: https://eec.ky.gov/Environmental-Protection/Water/Monitor/Pages/HABS.aspx #:~:text=Harmful%20Algal%20Blooms%20Division%20of%20Water&text=A%20harmful%20algal%20bloom%2C%20or,skin%20in%20animals%20or%20humans.
"Death follows minutes to hours after exposure to a small amount of this toxin." As the weather gets hotter, ponds can start to have "algae blooms." The water itself can look like pea soup, or like green paint is spread on the surface of the water. Sometimes it is not visible at all. Some of these blooms are cyanobacteria, which can produce potent toxins. Dogs are exposed when they wade in the water and either drink the water directly, or lick it off themselves when they come out. There is no antidote; treatment is supportive and many dogs don't survive. If you believe your dog has been exposed, bathe him immediately. If he has any symptoms, bring him right in to a veterinarian. See comments for more information about signs and treatment. (Most ponds that look like this are not dangerous, but it is not possible to tell which ones are toxic and which ones aren't except by having the water tested; If in doubt, keep pets out.) Edited to add links to more pond phots.

"Your more expensive than kennels"

Yes home boarders are slightly more expensive I agree, however do kennels welcome your dog into their own homes?
Do your dogs have access to outdoor space all day
everyday?
Do they walk your dog for more than an hour a day or just the hour allocated to your dog?
Do they have sofas carpets in your dogs cages or just hard floors with your dogs blankets and beds on?
Can your dog be treated in the same way as their own dog?
Is your dog able to move around freely making the choice to stay inside or go outside?
Is your dog called by its name or just a cage number?
Are they groomed daily if required?
Don't get me wrong I know some kennels are extremely good but the personal touches the human interactions is very limited.

As home boarders we
Treat the dogs in the same way as our own would be treated.
We spend time getting to know your dog assessing them to ensure they will be happy in our care, they get on with resident dogs and mix well. We have written assessment pre booking trail days and sleep overs incase your dog don't settle.
We deep deep clean before and after each stay and have record and log each clean.
We do daily records on guest fill in welfare logs if needed
We provide enrichment toys and games,

We don't
Just sit with your dog watching TV drinking coffee
(Nore do kennels)

Leave your dogs for hours on end shut up in a cage.

Just leave your dogs to their devices.

Yes we may be a bit more expensive but also open our homes up to others in a home away from home environment.

A pre holiday sleep over for these boys tonight.

As part of my licence all dogs if staying longer than a night must have pre booking sleep over to ensure they are happy a settled before any booking is made and that they will get along with resident etc. This also helps with our mandatory assessments we do on new dogs as we get an overall view.
