Did we ever introduce you to Jameson? Jameson was a housemate of Mickie's that came in at 5 weeks old. He was sitting in a shelter after being found in a ditch. The shelter immediately saw he was not adoptable and after he passed out a few times they put him in a dark room by himself until his stray hold was up and he could be euthanized. No medical care, no diagnosis just a death sentence for a puppy.
NO....that isn't acceptable so we stepped in. We named him Jameson, in all honesty, because he looked tanked when he would go into an episode. Our vet led to specialists and finally a diagnosis for Jameson, (sudden passing out) with (lack of muscle control). With answers we were able to determine our next steps for Jameson.
Getting Jameson settled we also encountered Jameson's mode. Like an epileptic, Jameson needs to bite down coming out of episodes to get some stability in his brain. He will bite anything, including you to steady his world. We all needed to do some adjusting to create a safe place/world for this little guy. And we did, with the wonderful generosity of our supporters.
Jameson has been in daily training for the simple basics. He knows them but we are trying to get him to focus more on them when episodes come or pass. With the cataplexy, potty training is also a challenge some days. But outside of his episodes, Jameson is an absolute goof, happy as can be doing zoomies & playing. He has so much zest for life, that it outweighs his episodes. We vowed that as long as he has a great quality of life he would always have a safe environment to live in.
Him and Mickie used to have mini conversations, barking back and forth. Her doing her Sassy dance, him eventually passing out from the excitement. We miss those days so much....the clicking of Mickie's nails on the floor... it's just silence that is deafening.
Just before Mickie passed, we found a lump on Jameson's back leg. It was small, like a peanut, so we watched it. Just after Mickie went over the bridge the lump grew to the size of a walnut. We took him in and were heartbroken to hear that Jameson has mast cell cancer. We did an ultrasound and he is clear of cancer everywhere else (YAY!!!!) but we need to attack his tumor now before it can spread.
Jameson is a sass pants like Mickie, he tells us off frequently 🤣. Maybe her sass passed to him as we see her in him often....then we see his own attitude too. Due to a lot of factors we wanted to share Jameson and his journey here. Like Mickie, Jameson is he deserves a life filled with love....and he will always have that here. Dogs with narcolepsy are not common, so maybe we can help others with Jameson's journey. I think Mickie would approve 😜
Where Jameson's mass is, it isn't a candidate for surgical removal. The margins would be horrible. So with Dr. Ts suggestions we began some deep research. We also started him on some holistic treatment to hopefully keep it from spreading until we decided on a treatment plan. Well, we have a treatment plan! Jameson went in today to get the measurements of his tumor taken and now we work to raise the funds for his treatment. Jameson is only 2 years old and deserves every possible chance to beat this cancer. He deserves a healthy, sassful life and we are determined to help him. Cancer at two years old...how cruel life has been to our boy. But with your help we can hopefully change that!
Will you help him in his journey?
