Happy birthday by girl! I can’t believe Lucie is 8 already. Words cannot describe how much I love her and how much she means to me. I hope Lucie has many more years ahead of her being spicy (and a little bad) because I have more fun adventures up my sleeve for us

GRIFFIN UPDATE

Griffin is doing well! He had his follow up ultrasound which showed some blood in his abdomen but it was significantly less, which means he done a good job absorbing it. The vet was pleased with how he looks overall (pink gum, warm ears) and has cleared him to ease back into activity.

I am so grateful he is doing well. I feel an immense sense of guilt over Griffin getting hit by a car, but I am grateful for all the excellent care he has gotten and so many people asking about how he is doing. We are lucky to have such a terrific community. We love you all!

Griffin Update:

He’s home! The vet cleared him to come home last night with pretty strict orders. He has to be on crate rest for the next two weeks and isn’t allowed to get riled up. He was sent home with pain medication and sedatives to help keep him stay mellow.

Griffin still has blood in his abdomen and it will take time for him to reabsorb it. He will go back to the vet in a week to get bloodwork and another ultrasound of his belly to make sure things are progressing well.

All in all, I feel like for a horrible situation, we have been pretty lucky. I’m enormously grateful for the care he got at hospital and . I’m grateful for ’s help and support. I’m grateful to all the people who love and care for us. Griffins road to recovery isn’t over yet, but we are taking baby steps towards getting better.

Griffin Update:
I talked with the vet who has been taking care of Griffin. He had a hard night last night and needed a sedative to help him relax and sleep.

His labs have been stable. This morning he had an ultrasound of his belly to assess the bleeding. His ultrasound yesterday showed blood in all four quadrants of his abdomen and this mornings showed blood in three out of four quadrants. The stable labs and ultrasounds are indicating the bleeding is slowing or has stopped and he is starting to reabsorb the blood.

The vets plan is to try and get him onto different pain medication that he can come home on, continue monitoring his blood work and Griffin will have another ultrasound of his belly. If the bloodwork and ultrasound are about the same or are improving, and he is tolerating the pain medication they give him, he will come home tonight.

I cannot express the gratitude I have for everyone who has reached out about Griffin and to see how I am doing. I am so lucky to have people who care about us. The boy isn’t out of the woods yet, but things are looking better for him. Keep him in your thoughts and hopefully he will get to come home tonight!

My worst nightmare came true: Griffin was hit by a car.

This morning I opened my front door to load the dogs up and he darted out into the street and was hit. I rushed him to our vet where she found blood in his belly meaning he’s bleeding internally. They called ahead for us and I rushed him to the emergency vet where he is now.

The plan is for him to be in the Doggy ICU (DICU if you will) for the next 24-48 hours for close observation, follow up blood draws to check red blood cell counts, additional ultrasounds to monitor the bleeding in his belly, pain control and additional supportive care. Right now he doesn’t need surgery and no news is good news.

Keep this little guy in thoughts, he needs all the good vibes. Xan and I are going to see him again this evening for some Gooby snuggles and for another update from the vet. He’s a strong, stupid guy. He’s not out of the woods yet, but we are hopeful.

As we head into regionals this weekend, I can’t help but reflect on the year and past seasons. We have had a terrific dock diving season so far.

This is our 4th year competing and as Lucie gets older, my goals have changed for us. She will be 8 in September. I am trying to put more emphasis on our time spent together and make sure Lucie has fun on the dock rather than her scores.

I will keep competing with her for as long as she feels good and is having fun. Lu is my jumping bean and I’m looking forward to spending this weekend with her and hopefully many more years to come on and off the dock.

Thank you for your time spent training with us and for fueling my little athlete

One of the hazards of summer are foxtails. We had a great weekend full of biking, camping, swimming, and being outside but Lucie came home with a souvenir foxtail in her eye. We went to the vet yesterday where Lucie was sedated, had the foxtail removed and started on antibiotics. I don’t mess around when it comes to foxtails and other grass seeds. They can migrate and become infected.

Oh, I’m sorry, who gave these three the right to be so cute? There’s very little Lucie and Griffin enjoy more than going on outings with their best friend Kai. They are three naughty peas in a pod 🐶🐶🐶

I am so proud of this little dog and what a big effort she always gives me. Three years ago, when we started competing in dock sports, I set a goal for us to go to a North America Diving Dogs regional event and try our hand to qualify for nationals. Although we did not qualify for nationals, we had a ton of fun competing in AR and DJ as well as watching friends compete.

Lucie always gives it her all and shows up for me. This was our second time ever competing on a mobile dock and our first event of the year on one. There were so many possible distractions but she was an absolute professional and only had eyes and ears for me and her toy.

Thank you so much for training and encouraging us for the past 3 seasons. I am looking forward to this season and all the spicy energy Lucie will be sure to give us. And thank you for providing us with fuel for a champion!
