Storm Agnes is looking like she might be a particularly nasty one!
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR PET'S ARE CONTAINED!
✅ Bring your cats indoors, NOW!
✅ If you have a stray animal in your garden or area, find it a safe place to shelter. Rescues are overwhelmed and the majority don't have space, this is your chance to do your bit to save a life.
✅ Do a final check to ensure that your fences are secure for your dog going out to toilet, the weather warning is in place for 20 hours and your dog will need to toilet in that time. If you have any doubts, toilet your dog on a secure collar and lead.
✅ Ensure that your pets are wearing collars and ID tags with up to date information. Phone the microchip company your pet is registered with and check that their chip details are up to date.
✅ Ensure you have up to date photographs of your pets, preferably showing their face, body and any distinguishable markings. These photos are essential to help reunite your pet should they escape.
✅ Before the storm starts, close all windows and curtains, so any unsettling sounds and sights from outside are hidden. To further drown out any loud noises, play some music or put the TV on in the room your pet is in.
✅ Severe weather can be particularly dangerous for small pets who live in the garden, such as rabbits and guinea pigs. To keep them sheltered from the heavy storms, temporarily move their hutch into a well-ventilated, enclosed outbuilding (e.g. a car-free garage or shed) or bring them inside your home.
Please listen to this advice, we don't want to see the lost and found volunteers having to putting their lives at risk to find and catch loose animals.
