Pets Niagara

Pets Niagara Pets Niagara is an adoption, rescue, sanctuary resource for pets in the Niagara Region of Ontario, Ca We can only do what we do with help from donors like you!
(1)

Pets Niagara is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the number of homeless and abandoned animals in the Niagara Region through education, foster, adoption, sanctuary and charitable support of pets and pet owners. We aspire to be a unified voice for abandoned, abused and neglected animals in our region and in particular for the City of St. Catharines and for the greater s

uburban and rural areas surrounding us. Together, through a system of volunteers, foster homes, educators, animal lovers and exceptionally generous people, we aim to eliminate the unnecessary suffering of domestic animals by keeping them out of the shelter system. Pets Niagara rescues cats, dogs, small animals and even farm animals as space and availability of foster homes allows. Rescuing senior animals, those with costly medical issues and the so-called "hard to adopt" animals, with an eye to providing those precious souls with a permanent sanctuary, is our special focus. Through our success stories, we know that every life is worth saving. For the pets that are suitable for adoption we work diligently and tirelessly toward finding a life-long loving home for these deserving creatures. We are working hard towards our lofty long-term goals and vision - building a dedicated physical sanctuary in the Niagara Region where we can provide safe harbour for all pets in our region that are in need. There, we will be able to continue with our rescue-foster-adopt mission as well as provide permanent residence for senior pets, hospice cases, FIV, FeLV and feral cats, and farm animals. This will also be a place where the Pets Niagara community will be able to gather, grow and celebrate. Pets Niagara relies solely on the kindness and generosity of the general public through donations and memberships, sponsors and corporate partners. We are not funded in any way by the federal or provincial governments or agencies. To enable us to bring our mission and vision to fruition we must raise funds through diverse avenues, including fund-raising activities, sales of pet-related products and awareness campaigns. Rest assured that 100% of all proceeds received by Pets Niagara through its' activities is spent solely on the needs of the animals protected by our care umbrella. Pets Niagara will engage in a number of fund-raising activities as well as launch a line of toys, bedding and protective gear that can be purchased for your favourite feline or canine. All proceeds of sales made through our pet collection are used solely to fund the charitable activities of Pets Niagara. All proceeds realized from our fund-raising activities, memberships and sponsorships are used solely to fund the charitable activities of Pets Niagara. You can help Pets Niagara build a thriving community. Any donation, big or small, goes a long way to helping an animal in need. We welcome anyone who is willing to help, learn, engage and celebrate the lives of all the wonderful pets who share our world with us.

We are happy to announce that Pets Niagara has taken in a beautiful little furgirl that needs specialized medical support to keep her digestive tract working properly. Tofu arrived yesterday. She is very unsure of what is happening in her world right now. But, we've already made strides in becoming friends. Here's a welcome for our newest little resident.

We are happy to announce that Trixie and Kim have been officially reunited. Although we are sad saying goodbye to one of our little charges, we are preparing for another little female furkid to join us, tomorrow. Trixie was such a good little furgirl during her time with us and we will miss her cute little ways.

I hope everyone in Canada is enjoying the Canada Day Holiday. The one downside to the celebrations are the gunpowder-fueled fireworks. At the last holiday, some idiot was setting off fireworks on the road right outside of our sanctuary. The result: I had three precious cats with weeklong diarrhea, frightened by the extreme noise. They all had to be treated with metronidazole prescribed by their vet.

I love a cat's purr. Nothing more soothing after a tough day.

Your cat’s purring produces a sound every 30-40 milliseconds and lasts 10-15 milliseconds. They can produce about 250 sounds per second and can change in volume, length, and frequency according to their state of mind! Learn more about purring at https://bit.ly/3tHzgHW.

And our third anniversary celebration is for the 5 years that Barney has been with us. Barney is Frankie's 'brother from another mother'. Barney is such a snuggle bug and with all that thick, fluffy fur it's like curling up in a cozy blanket.

Please keep your dogs on a leash while outdoors, during this weekend - even in your own fenced backyard. Many dogs are so traumatized by the noise of fireworks that they will dig their way out or find a hole just big enough for them to squeeze through. If they escape, you may not be fast enough to catch them. There are still dogs missing who escaped during fireworks several years ago.

And for our horse loving friends, fans and followers, they have been known to break through fences or jump them to escape the loud noise of fireworks. Horses are often severely and fatally injured during escape times. Please, bring your horses into the stable and be sure the stable doors are shut. It's only for a few nights and far better to know that your beloved horses are safe.

📢 ☀️ As the long weekend & fireworks displays approach, it’s important to protect our pups from unnecessary distress and potential danger. Fireworks can be an exciting spectacle for us, but for many dogs, they can be a source of fear and anxiety.

Here are some essential tips to keep in mind:

1️⃣ 🏡 Keep your dog indoors: Create a safe and secure environment for your dog during fireworks displays. Close all windows and doors, and provide a comforting environment for them to retreat to.

2️⃣ 🌳 Leash up: If you need to take your dog outside, ensure they are on a leash at all times. Consider using a Martingale collar & Safety strap for added security. Even during the daytime, unexpected firework noises can startle your dog, potentially causing them to run away.

3️⃣ Identification: Ensure your dog is wearing a collar with identification tag that is easy to read, and microchip registration information is up to date.

By being proactive, we can prevent dogs from becoming lost due to fear. Have a great long weekend! 🐶☀️

The fireworks started last night. Thankfully, they were far enough away that the noise didn't have too much of an impact on the sanctuary pets. But, I know from past years that tonight and tomorrow night, especially, are going to be very noisy! Everyone, please keep your pets safe.

As we approach the long weekend, please be considerate of our canine companions who may be TERRIFIED of fireworks 💥
Leave your pets at HOME, and be sure all gates are secured!
(along with the can food, include a Kong/puzzle feeder, to keep the pets occupied) 🐶

On April 28, 2024, Trixie celebrated her 6-month anniversary here at Pets Niagara Sanctuary. She is such a delightful little girl and so cute as she runs with her tail held high to her feeding area when she hears my footsteps coming to bring her meals to her. Sorry we're a little late in getting this notice posted. I'll have to schedule better around income tax time.

Much to our dismay, not all cats want to snuggle all the time. Let your cat approach you. Cats will often nuzzle or rub up against you, making it clear they want an embrace or to be petted. For tips on how to show your cat affection visit https://bit.ly/2YCHtC6.
