This is what I mean when I tell my clients, "The less we say, the more they listen" (and NO, that doesn't work with husbands ๐ค๐๐๐๐คฃ). This may not LOOK super exciting or amazing, but it's taken our Lacey a lonnnnng time to develop "impulse control" and not jump up whenever we want to put the leash on her. She does still have occasional difficulty and will jump up in spite of herself, but I just turn away for a couple of seconds and then turn back when she's able to sit, and then give her a blink (which means "good job!" in dog body language). This uses a combination of calm Positive Reinforcement (I continue what I'm doing and attach the leash, which is what she wants) and firm but gentle Negative Punishment (when I turn away and stop what I'm doing, which means she has to wait a bit longer to get what she wants).

Pierre Learning Human Vocabulary!
Want to adopt a sweet boy with some training already under his belt?! Monsieur Pierre, about 20 months old, is getting really good at practicing his new "vocabulary" of Sit, Down, Come, and Stay!
Anyone adopting him in San Antonio will get two free Adoption Transition Counseling sessions with Heeling Hounds Dog Training to help acclimatize him to his new home!
All our dogs and fosters are trained using a calm, gentle voice, and asked to comply ONE TIME--no repeating "Sit Sit Sit!!!" We also use hand signals, which are actually easier for dogs to process than verbal cues!
A whole new year just three days away?! :-O My resolution is to keep learning and teaching all I can about dog behavior and psychology! Here's a short video I made about "dominance"--dominance is actually a fleeting state, not a personality trait, and simply refers to a dog having priority access to and "claiming" a resource. Check it out!
Need Behavior Modification for a dog that's jumping, digging, barking, or chewing up the house? Want Obedience Training for a new pup that needs to learn human vocabulary words such as Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Leave It and Drop it? Want a Certified Professional Trainer to come and train your dog at your home while you're gone during the day with In-Home Day Training? Call Glenda at Heeling Hounds to schedule an appointment!
Today was my last day getting to work with this shy little beauty--Hope got to practice all the behaviors we worked on--Heel, Sit, Stay, Touch, Catch It--and passed with flying colors! I'll miss working with her, and can't wait to show her family what she learned! <3
Say hello the lovely Hades, an adorable Rottweiler/Lab mix! Despite having a scary-sound name, this little guy, barely 11 weeks old, has so far learned Sit, Down, Stay, and Come, and is working on Drop It and Leave It. It's never too early to start training, and you can see how clever he is and how quickly he learned to take his attention away from the treat in my right hand and get REWARDED from the other hand! Heeling Hounds teaches all the behaviors mentioned above without ever touching the dog--if you let them figure out what it is you want them to do or not do rather than trying to physically manipulate them, that's when learning will actually take place! (I accidentally gypped him out of the first treat :-/ but he was still chewing on a previous one, so that was my mistake not his! :-) )
