Our Story
Why "Ides of March"? The 15th of March is a historically important date, most frequently associated with the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BCE. For us, however, it commemorates the birthdate of our very first Berger Picard, Eden de la Jassette du Cap del Mas. Eden was a sweet brindle boy from France who came to live with us at 18 months of age. While with us, he showed us the meaning of the term "heart dog" and will forever inspire us to work for the betterment of the Berger Picard.
Ides of March Berger Picards offers breed education about our wonderful rustic French herding breed and occasionally may have puppies available. Our dogs are family members first and foremost. Success in the conformation ring and other performance activities is a lovely bonus we enjoy. We seek to improve the quality of the Berger Picard here in the United States. Our breedings are carefully planned with a focus on health and temperament, along with correct structure according to the FCI breed standard. We prefer to place our pups in show and performance homes, however all inquiries will be carefully considered. Pups are whelped and raised in our home. We follow a combination of Puppy Culture and Avidog puppy-rearing protocols and socialize our pups to multiple stimuli, sounds, and people while they are with us. An Ides of March Picard is a life-long commitment, but we will ALWAYS take back any of our dogs at any time in the dog's lifetime for any reason.
