Hey, we are still here!
Lilly, Ben, Apollo, Hugo, Tommy and Leon.
We survived on the streets and we lived in the shelter many years.
Now we are in foster since the shelter closed at April 2022.
It seems our journey ended here.
Does it end?

They need training to be in a house with people. But how should they learn it when they just know their kennel.
They need more. They deserve more. They need you, who want to work with a broken soul.
We will be with you if you decide to foster one of these amazing doggies.

THE NEROKOURO SHELTER DOGS IN TRAINING

Today Leon started to get used by leash. It's a short trainings leash. The little guy was walking like drunken when I put a usual leash on him last weeks.
Now we tried a short one.
Even the short one made him confused and I must work with him not to hide somewhere.
But now he accepted to have a "thing" hanging.
It may seem a little step for you, but for him it was like the first step on the moon.
We ll keep you updated about Leon's and the other shelter dogs progress❤️

Δείτε τον μικρό μας Λεόν!
Το αγορακι μας φιλάει την καινούργια εθελόντρια, Νικολέττα, μετά την πρώτη τους συνάντηση. Θυμάστε ότι ο Λεον ήταν ένα από τα ντροπαλά σκυλιά μας τα οποία εκπαιδεύουμε. Εξακολουθεί να μη του αρέσει να φοράει λουρί αλλά πλέον απολαμβάνει την ανθρώπινη επαφή και τις αγκαλιές! Είναι ευτυχισμένος όταν είναι μαζί με τους ανθρώπους που συμπαθεί και το να μένει μαζί με έναν άνθρωπο που θα τον αγαπάει και θα τον φροντίζει, θα τον βοηθούσε να εξελιχθεί πολύ περισσότερο! Ψάχνουμε επειγόντως φιλοξενία ή την παντοτινή οικογένεια για τον Λεόν γιατί το καταφύγιο πρόκειται να κλείσει..

Check out our cutie Leon! The little charmer kisses our new volunteer Nikoletta just after their first meeting. You remember Leon was one of the shy dogs we trained with. He still thinks the leash is stupid, but he enjoys human contact and cuddles. He is the happiest when he is around people he likes and living with a person would help him blossom even more! We are urgently looking for a foster home, or a permanent one for Leon as we have to close the shelter.

Αυτός ο όμορφος Βελγικός Ποιμενικός ψάχνει επειγόντως σπίτι!
Ο ιδιοκτήτης της είναι άνω των 90 ετών και βαριά άρρωστος. Αυτή τη στιγμή οι γείτονες φροντίζουν τη Δέσποινα και μας ζήτησαν βοήθεια.
Η Δέσποινα είναι 7 ετών, στειρωμένη και εμβολιασμένη. Οι γείτονες την ξέρουν ως ερωτική, ευχάριστη σκύλα.

Σωστε τα γλυκουλια μας!!!

Ειμαστε πλεον τρομακτικα κοντα στο κλεισιμο του καταφυγιου...Η ημερομηνια 15 Μαρτιου ειναι μολις μερικες μερες μακρυα, και προσπαθουμε εναγωνιως να βρουμε οικογενειες για τα πιο ντροπαλα σκυλια του καταφυγιου μας οπως ο Απολλο και ο Χουγκο, αλλα και για αλλα οπως ο Μπεν που εχουν σημειωσει τεραστια προοδο τους τελευταιους μηνες με την πολυτιμη βοηθεια των εθελοντων μας!!Μια βοηθεια που εχει κοστισει και συνεχιζει να κοστιζει σχεδον 900€ ανα μηνα για καλυψη σε τροφη, ιατρικη περιθαλψη και φαρμακα!! Η οποιαδηποτε οικονομικη σας βοηθεια σας ηταν και παραμενει ζωτικης σημασιας!!Μολις τα σκυλια μας βρουν τις οικογενειες που θα τα αγαπησουν θα συνειδητοποιησουν ποσο γλυκια ειναι η ζωη εκτος καταφυγιου...θα δοθουν ανευ ορων, θα σταματησουν να ειναι ντροπαλα και φοβισμενα μην ξεροντας τι ξημερωνει για αυτα...Μπορειτε εσεις η καποιο κοντινο σας προσωπο να κοινοποιησει αυτο το κειμενο η να κανει μια δωρεα τιμωντας καποιο αγαπημενο του προσωπο η ζωο..!! Καθε στηριξη σας ειναι σημαντικη!!Ειμαστε κοντα στο τελος και η αναγκη μας ειναι μεγαλυτερη απο ποτε..Παντα θελαμε το καλυτερο για αυτες τις τετραποδες ψυχες και πιστεουμε οτι τα καταφεραμε χαρη στην βοηθεια σας και χαρη στη βοηθεια των εθελοντων μας που με τοση αγαπη και αφοσιωση, εδωσαν ψυχη και σωμα, ωστε να προσφερουν ενα καλυτερο αυριο σε αυτα τα ζωα που δυστυχως σε πολλα απο αυτα εδειξε το πιο σκληρο της προσωπο...Η αγαπη σας, ηταν και παραμενει μια ηλιαχτιδα ελπιδας, ενα αγγιγμα ανθρωπιας,που πολλες φορες εκανε την διαφορά!! Σε αυτο ελπιζουμε και τωρα!! Βοηθηστε μας να βοηθησουμε αυτα τα ζωα που εμειναν πισω στο καταφυγιο να βλεπουν τους φιλους να φευγουν απο κοντα τους και να μην γυριζουν πισω! Να φευγουν οντας υιοθετημενα πλεον,σιγουρα για μια ζωη καλυτερη, που θα εχει μονιμα πλεον αγαπη και φροντιδα...διπλα στις μονιμες οικογενειες τους!!Δεν ειναι αργα για τον Απολλο...δεν ειναι αργα για τον Μπεν...δεν ειναι αργα για τον Χουγκο...ΤΩΡΑ ειναι η ωρα που τοσο καρτερικα περιμεναν!!! Η ωρα που θα φυγουν απο το καταφυγιο κοιταζοντας πισω και αντικρυζοντας ενα καταφυγιο πλεον... αδειο...Βασιζομαστε στην βοηθεια σας!!!Τωρα ειναι η ωρα....

SAVE OUR SWEETIES - SOS!

We’re frighteningly close to the finish line: March 15 is only 4 days away, and we’re trying to meet the needs of the shyest shelter dogs, dogs like Apollo and Hugo. They - and several other dogs, like Ben - have become more socialized over the months through their regular contact with our skilled and loving volunteers.

Now they’re ready for more intensive training, the kind that can happen only when they are living at the trainer’s home and so much interaction with their trainer. These are dogs whose training, and food, and any vet bills, will cost a total of 900€ per month. Ask yourself, please, if you can make a monthly donation toward these shy dogs’ training plus associated costs.

Whatever you can donate will help. Once these dogs lose their shyness and learn how good life can be outside the Nerokourou shelter, they will be ready to meet their forever people, and their monthly training expenses will end.

But in the meantime, consider sponsoring one of these shy dogs in memory of a pet-loving family member. Or maybe you and your brother, or you and your sisters, or you and your mom can co-sponsor a dog.

Maybe you’d like to sponsor a dog in celebration of your best-behaved dog - or your most lovable but worst-behaved dog - or a beloved cat who knew how to terrorize your dog. And then let us know whom you are commemorating, please.

Οπου και αν βρισκεστε, βοηθηστε μας...!!!

Χρειαζομαστε την βοηθεια σας σημερα!! Το κλεισιμο του καταφυγιου ειναι στην γωνια,αλλα σιγουρα τα εξοδα μας για την συντηρηση του τρεχουν... Το καταφυγιο χρειαζεται σε καθημερινη βαση πολυ νερο για την καθαριοτητα αλλα και την ενυδατωση των σκυλων!Καποια απο τα σκυλια χρειαζονται εμβολιασμο,εξετασεις, και καποια ακολουθουν ιατρικη αγωγη...Εχουμε σιγουρα τους καλυτερους και πιο συνεργασιμους κτηνιατρους, αλλα και αυτοι πρεπει να πληρωθπυν για τις υπηρεσιες που προσφερουν...Χρειαζομαστε επισης σε καθημερινη βαση τροφη οχι μονο για τα σκυλια του καταφυγιου, αλλα και για αυτα που ειναι σε προσωρινη φροντιδα σε φιλους μας...Οπουδηποτε και αν ειστε σε οποιοδηποτε μερος του πλανητη μπορειτε να μας βοηθησετε να ειμαστε τυπικοι σε ολες αυτες τις υποχρεωσεις!!

We need your help today. The closing of the Nerokourou shelter looms just ahead, but we still must meet our expenses:

- The shelter still needs clean water to keep the area clean and our dogs hydrated, and this daily necessity requires payment.
- Some of our dogs still need vaccinations, physical exams, occasional blood tests, and medicine. We are lucky to have such great vets, and we are happy to pay them for the excellent medical care they give to our shelter dogs.
- Dog food is of course needed, not just for the dogs still living in the shelter but also those in foster care.

These expenses add up to considerable money, and they require our prompt attention.

ZEUS, OUR MASSIVE MASTIFF

You probably remember Zeus. Clocking in at about 5 years of age, 40-45 kg, and recently sterilized, he’s a boy who’s hard to forget.

Zeus was adopted some months ago but returned to the shelter soon afterward by his adopter, who found him to be a naughty boy.

We know that Zeus’s ideal adopter is somewhere here on Crete. There’s someone on the island who understands that Zeus will be a loyal and faithful dog, but not a dog for everyone. His adopter will know that Zeus needs to be an only pet, without competing dogs or cats - or children! There’s someone out there who knows how to train a big and powerful dog like Zeus and who understands that training Zeus will require a muzzle.

Σαμσων!! Ενα υπομονετικο και τοσο γλυκο αγορι...!!!

Οταν πολλα απο τα σκυλια του καταφυγιου εβρισκαν τις παντοτινες τους οικογενειες και εφευγαν, ο Σαμσων παρεμενε εκει να τους κοιταζει να φευγουν...Περιμενε καρτερικα την δικη του σειρα...τον δικο του ανθρωπο!!Την δικη του παντοτινη οικογενεια... Πλεον δυο εβδομαδες πριν οριστικα κλεισει το καταφυγιο ο Σαμσων ειναι εκει και περιμενει ακομα....Οι εθελοντες μας που τον ξερουν καλα μας λενε τα εξης:" Δεν υπαρχει καλυτερο σκυλι για βολτα απο τον Σαμσων!! Καθεται διπλα σου και παντα τσεκαρει να δει κατα την διαρκεια της βολτας οτι εισαι καλα!!" Αλλη εθελοντης μας ειπε:" Ο Σαμσων ειναι απο τα σκυλια που σου δινουν πραγματικα να καταλαβεις οτι εισαι το κεντρο του κοσμου τους!! Ειναι αξιαγαπητος και εχει τοση τρυφεροτητα για τους ανθρωπους!! Πως ειναι δυνατον να μην εχει υιοθετηθει ακομα...??" Οντως Σαμσων...σου αξιζει και εσενα οπως και σε ολα τα υπολοιπα σκυλια του καταφυγιου μια ευκαιρια για αγαπη και ευτυχια!!! Θα βρεθει και για σενα ο ανθρωπος σου...αυτος που θα σου προσφερει λιγα, μπροστα σε αυτα που θα του προσφερεις εσυ...Ισως να διαβαζει τωρα αυτο το κειμενο...ναι, ετσι θελουμε να πιστευουμε...θα βρεθει ο ανθρωπος που θα σου προσφερει ενα μικρο χωρο να κοιμασαι,λιγο φαγητο, και αγαπη!!!Αυτη την αγαπη που τοσο απλοχερα μοιραζεις εσυ σε ολους μας...Υιοθετηστε τον Σαμσων!! Τα χρονικα περιθωρια για αυτον εχουν στενεψει...Δωστε του αυτο που τοσο του αξιζει..αυτο που τοσο ονειρευεται....

SAMSON, A BIG, PATIENT, SWEET BOY

Other shelter dogs have gone into foster homes, and Samson has watched.

Other shelter dogs have gone to their forever homes, and Samson has waited. He’s waited, patiently, for his person, his family, his home.

Now, with just two weeks before the shelter closes its gate, hasn’t Samson waited long enough?

Here’s what volunteers tell us about Samson:

- “There’s no better dog to walk than Samson. He stays right by my side, and he’s always checking to make sure I’m doing ok. He stops to give me kisses on our walks.”
- “Samson lets you know that you’re the center of his universe, his #1 priority.”
- “Samson is so lovely, so loving. How can it be that this big sweetie pie isn’t adopted yet?”

Doesn’t this big sweetie pie of a dog deserve the same chance for happiness that has been granted to so many other dogs at the Nerokourou shelter?

Be the one to take Samson home with you, the one to take him for walks, to give him his own bed to sleep in, to watch TV with, to hang out with.

Be the one to give Samson the life he deserves. Please. Time is running out.

Εχουμε μονο μερικες εβδομαδες...!!!!!!

Εχουμε μονο μερικες εβδομαδες μεχρι το καταφυγιο του Νεροκουρου κλεισει οριστικα..!!! Τωρα πλεον εχουμε και ημερομηνια..15 Μαρτιου... Η ημερομηνια που ολα τα σκυλια του καταφυγιου πρεπει να εχουν βρει στεγη!!!Προς τιμη των εθελοντων μας που βοηθουν στο καταφυγιο αρκετες φορες μεσα στην εβδομαδα,ολα τα σκυλια εχουν κανει απιστευτη προοδο!!!

Ο Λεων,τρωει πλεον απο τα χερια οποιουδηποτε!! Πληρης εμπιστοσυνη στους ανθρωπους!!

Ο Μπεν μας...!!! Ο πιο ντροπαλος σκυλος του κοσμου!!! Πλεον δειχνει εμπιστοσυνη και αγαπη σε οποιον παει κοντα του!! Μερα με την μερα ολο και περισσοτερο!!

Ο Τομμυ!! Ο Τομμυ δεν φοβαται πια...!!!

Ο Σαμσων ειναι ο πιο εμπειρος περιπατητης με λουρι στο καταφυγιο!! Ετοιμαστειτε να πατε μαζι του την βολτα της...ζωης σας!!!

Η Μαγια μας...τοσο αξιαγαπητη, και τοσο ετοιμη για την παντοτινη της οικογενεια...!!!!

Η ενημερωση σας τις επομενες μερες θα συνεχιστει για ολα τα σκυλια του καταφυγιου!Τα περιθωρια πλεον στενεψαν πολυ και βασιζομαστε οσο ποτε στην δικη σας αγαπη και θεληση!!! Καθε αθωα απο αυτες ψυχουλα αξιζει μια χαρουμενη ζωη και ενα ζεστο σπιτι με αγαπη και φροντιδα...Αναρωτηθειτε πως μπορειτε να βοηθησετε...ακομα καλυτερα??? Πραξτε το!!!Ενεργοποιηστε οτι φιλοζωικα ενστικτα μπορει να εχετε!Βοηθηστε μας, να τα βοηθησουμε!!!

WE HAVE ONLY A FEW WEEKS ….

… before the Nerokourou shelter will close. We now have a final deadline to meet: 15 March. The shelter will close on 15 March, and all dogs must be out by then.

Thanks to our loyal and skilled volunteers who visit the shelter several times each week, amazing progress has been made in earning the trust of these dogs:
♥️ Leon eats right from the hands of total strangers.
♥️ Ben - Ben! the world’s shyest dog! - Beautiful Ben came out of his shell two weeks ago and is becoming more trusting every day!
♥️ Tommy is no longer scared stiff of people.

And some dogs are adoptable now. Today. (Yesterday, in fact.) Dogs like these:
♥️ Samson is the best behaved walker-on-a-leash in the whole shelter. He is totally ready for adoption.
♥️ Maya so so so needs to be in her forever home. Maya loves love, and she’s waiting for you, she’s waiting to love you.

In the coming days we will update you on these and other dogs still at the Nerokourou shelter.

H Λιδα και η Χριστινα...
Η Λιδα και η Χριστινα δουλευοθν σχεδον ασταματητα για να βρουν ανθρωπους που θα φιλοξενησουν προσωρινα,η θα υιοθετησουν κουταβια που κατα καιρους εγκαταλειπονται στην πυλη του καταφυγιου του Νεροκουρου!!Αυτο που κανει το εργο τους τοσο σπουδαιο ειναι η προσοχη που δειχνουν ωστε να ταιριαξουν τα κουταβια με τους ανθρωπους τους!!Απο τα βαθη της καρδιας ολων εμας που γνωριζουμε την καταθεση ψυχης που κανουν,ενα απεραντο ευχαριστω στην Λιδα Σηφοδασκαλακη,και την Χριστινα Μεσσαριτακη!!Με την βοηθεια σας,τοσο εγκαταλελειμενα αθωα πλασματα,ειναι πλεον ασφαλη,και απολαμβανουν ενα ζεστο και με πολυ αγαπη σπιτι!!Ευχαριστουμε!!

LIDA AND CHRISTINA…

… have been working almost nonstop to find fosterers and adopters for the puppies who’ve been abandoned at the gates of the Nerokourou shelter. What makes their work especially invaluable is the attention that they give to matching up puppies with people.

So from the bottom of our hearts we extend to Lida Sifodaskalaki and Christina Messaritaki our deepest gratitude. It’s thanks to them that so many abandoned puppies are now safe and secure and cherished in loving homes.

Μια κουταβο...ενημερωση..!!

Σας ειχαμε υποσχεθει οτι θα σας ενημερωναμε μολις ειχαμε νεωτερα για τα 7 κουταβια που εγκατελειψαν την Παρασκευη εξω απο το καταφυγιο του Νεροκουρου...Ιδου λοιπον τι γνωριζουμε μετα και απο την επισκεψη μας στον κτηνιατρο!

Τα κουταβια ειναι αρχικα ειναι σχεδον 2 μηνων!Ειναι ολα ασπρο-μπεζ χρωμα, και ειναι 4 κοριτσια και 3 αγορια!! Θα παραμεινουν μικρα σε μεγεθος και δεν θα ξεπερασουν τα 10-12 κιλα! Παρακαλουμε πολυ, οποιος μπορει να φιλοξενησει η ακομα καλυτερα να υιοθετησει καποιο απο αυτα τα πανεμορφα πλασματακια να ερθει σε επικοινωνια μαζι μας!!Αν δεν μπορειτε να υιοθετησετε η να φιλοξενησετε, μπορειτε να μας βοηθησετε κανοντας μια οικονομικη δωρεα, ωστε να καλυφθουν καποια απο τα καθημερινα τους εξοδα..!!!

A PUPDATE

We promised to update you when we learned more about the seven puppies dumped on Friday outside the gate of the Nerokourou shelter.

So, here’s what we know, because we took them to a veterinarian:
- They are about 2 months old.
- They are whitish-beige in color.
- 4 are girls. 3 are boys.
- They will stay pretty small, maybe 10-12 kg.

Please contact us if you want to foster or adopt any of these small, vulnerable little creatures. These little munchkins need your help.

But if you can’t foster or adopt one or more of these puppies, please give some thought to helping in another way - with a financial gift.

Η Γωγω...μια οαση χαρας, αγαπης και ενεργειας!! Η μικρη Γωγω εγκαταλειφθηκε τον προηγουμενο μηνα στο καταφυγιο του Νεροκουρου και ειναι ετοιμη για το παντοτινο της σπιτι!!!Ειναι 3 μιση μηνων, πληρως εμβολιασμενη και θα παραμεινει μικρου μεγεθους σκυλιτσα! Ισως εχει και dna πιντσερ και δεν θα ξεπερασει τα δεκα κιλα σε βαρος! Ειναι ακαταμαχητη σε γοητεια, πανεξυπνη και τοσο μα τοσο αγαπησιαρα... Δωστε της την ευκαιρια να σας το αποδειξει..!!! Τα ακριβα αρωματα αλλωστε βρισκονται σε μικρα μπουκαλακια...Ετσι και η Γωγω μας!! Μικρη, και...μοναδικη!!! GOGO - A BUNDLE OF FUN & LOVE & ENERGY Little Gogo, abandoned last month at the shelter in Nerokourou, is ready for her forever home. Gogo’s 3,5 months old and vaccinated now. She’ll always be a small dog - 10 kg max - and might have some pinscher in her DNA. Just look at this little sweetie. Irresistible, isn’t she?

SOS SOS SOS! (Foster) home needed! Nerokourou shelter 2021 A Dog You Need To Meet - TOMMY You gotta meet Tommy. From being super shy, he’s now super curious, and he’ll definitely be curious about you. Of course he’ll be shy at first, and he’ll bark at you … but when he discovers he can trust you, he’ll stop barking and become your best friend. Tommy’s about 5 years old, weighs about 25 kg, and is sterilized. Make a decision to visit the shelter to meet Tommy. It might be the best decision you make this month.

And yes, he’s lived at the Nerokourou shelter for 4 of those years. And yes, Leon’s a full-grown dog, clocking in at about 10 kg. But compared to the frightened creature he used to be, today Leon is frisky as a puppy, ready to play, ready to love and be loved. Now is Leon’s time. He has discovered that humans can be good. Maybe you’re one of those good humans, a human who can give this spunky little dog a future that’s so much better than his past. Come to the shelter to meet Leon. He’ll be shy at first, but before long he will want to make your acquaintance too, and once he knows you, he’ll know that he can trust you, and he’ll be ready to go home with you. Leon no longer belongs in the shelter. He belongs in a loving home … like your home.

Το πιο ομορφο χαμογελο!!! Πριν λιγο καιρο, ο Πινγκουιν ηταν ενας σκυλος στο καταφυγιο που απλα ηταν αορατος...Τρια σκυλια κρυβοταν παντα πισω απο μια συσταδα καλαμιων, αλλα αυτος που δεν φαινοταν ποτε, ηταν ο Πινγκουιν!! Πριν απο κανενα μηνα περιπου ομως, αυτο το φαινομενο αρχισε σιγα σιγα να αλλαζει...Ο Πινγκουιν αρχισε δειλα δειλα να βγαινει απο την κρυψωνα του!! Κοιταξτε τον τωρα!! Λατρευει τα χαδια, και οταν η Γιωτα λεει το ονομα του, αυτος χαμογελαει!!!! Και ειναι τοσο ομορφο το χαμογελο του...!!!Βοηθηστε μας στο εργο μας..Ελατε σαν εθελοντες! Συνεισφερετε αν μπορειτε οικονομικα... Δωριστε πραγματα που μπορουν να μας φανουν χρησιμα, η απλα ελατε να μας επισκεφτειτε και γνωριστε απο κοντα αυτα τα αξιολατρευτα ζωα!!!
