Name recognition comes before recall.�Before I ever use a formal recall command, I teach name recognition. It builds eye contact, focus, and sets the foundation for a reliable recall. 👀🐾�If your dog isn’t responding to their name, don’t expect them to come when called.

The Gentle Leader isn’t my favorite tool for dogs that redirect,�but in the summer heat, it’s a better option than a muzzle, for some dogs. I’ll use it alongside a training collar to keep everyone safe, cool, and under control. ☀️🐶

Before you go off leash, make sure you’ve nailed it on leash.�Don’t skip steps or “see what happens”—because your dog will figure out that the leash fairy disappears... and so does your control 😅�Even inside, let them drag the leash (with supervision!) so the rules stay the same no matter the setting.

Whether you're doing a focused heel like Greta in this video or just taking a casual stroll, your dog should never be pulling.
