Our Story
R & F Haberdashery started in my kitchen in summer 2014 after we found out that Rathbone (our Bloodhound/Great Pyranese mix) had grain allergies. It was less expensive to bake healthier treats that buy them, and soon many of our friends were asking me to make cookies for their dogs as well! Pretty soon, I had a fairly good stream of treat orders and decided to give this a go as a business.
We named the business “Rathbone’s Own Dog Treats” and from there we bought a vendor’s table at a couple of local events! We didn’t have anything bright or fancy to attract people. In an effort to attract more attention, and to make the table look prettier, I started making bow ties for dog collars. The following summer we began selling at the local farmers’ market. Things really started to look good as the summer months passed!
In the meantime, we had adopted Flash, a purebred Bloodhound. We wanted to include this silly new addition in the business, and rebranded as R & F Haberdashery in the fall of 2015!
We were happy with our local success, but as summer ended and our product line expanded we needed a broader platform to sell our wears so we opened our Etsy shop in October 2015. My dining room had been sewing central and as the business grew, this became rather inconvenient. I officially set up headquarters in the basement, kicking my kids to their rooms, in summer 2016!
