Summer is here and that means warmer weather. No matter what age your dog is there is nothing better than swimming.

Swimming is one of the best, most complete forms of exercise for your dog. It provides numerous health benefits, including strengthening the heart and lungs, decreasing inflammation, increasing metabolism, and improving circulation which helps keep the skin and coat healthy. All this adds up to a healthy, happy dog who can run, play, and have fun for longer with less risk of injury.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month

How can a bug so small wreak cause so many issues on both humans and animals?

It is not about mosquitoes or fruit flies, its a TICK!

Small, dark, and mysterious, ticks lurk in the shadows and spy as you and your dog walk outdoors. Ticks are the silent predators of the bug community.

An infected tick bite can result in the harsh side effects of Lyme disease for you or your dog. Lyme is an often forgotten or overlooked sickness that many people may have heard about but don’t know the intricate details of.

Lyme disease is caused by an infection from tick-transmitted Borrelial Pathogens. In the U.S., Borrelia Burgdorferi is the main cause and it’s spread by the blacklegged tick. Blacklegged ticks are sometimes called deer ticks or bear ticks sometimes. Blacklegged tick territory includes tall grass, shrubbery, and forests where they can find ample prey to latch onto.

Unfortunately, Lyme carrying ticks have the ability to survive year-round, even in below-freezing temperatures. Prime tick season occurs between April and October.

Be sure to do a routine check after each outdoor activity.
