This is such an important issue. I've seen so many puppies in rescue spayed and neutered at a very young age that have health issues like spay incontinence and joint issues from early sterilization. Please read up and sign. Sterilization doesn't have to be desexing, animals can have o***y sparing spays and vasectomies to keep their hormone levels more normal throughout life and still control population.
Equipping future veterinarians with updated and diversified sterilization techniques.

The foundation to recovering any dog is food. By providing a reliable food and water source to a lost dog you are also providing a location for a rescue to catch them. With record numbers of dogs being dumped and simply lost these days this is something helpful anyone can do.
Many times simply feeding a dog puts them back on track to think and process clearly and they simply return home if they are lost from one. Food literally changes everything and keeps that foundation intact. You will notice most of the stories I post here begin with a feeding station somewhere. If you want to help a lost dog roaming your neighborhood, feed them !

A stray cat found in the City of Watertown, New York has tested positive for rabies. Rabies cases have been identified across Jefferson County, including within the City of Watertown. Therefore, any unknown animal could have rabies. Avoid contact with unknown animals, including possible stray pets, as they may not have been vaccinated against rabies. Make sure your pets are up-to-date on their rabies vaccination.

All of our sweet foster pups went to their new families' today! It's a lot of work whelping litters and caring for mom and new pups, but I'm always really happy when pups head to their homes, they are healthy and well socialized, and beginning a new adventure with their new families. It's really heartwarming adding people to our big extended pup family!

The foster babies are getting so big, I took these photos and it seems they are already twice this size before I had a chance to share. Our grandchildren named them after the Avengers movie characters. So cute!

Dog Dehydration - Symptoms and Treatment
Dehydration in dogs can be a serious matter. Whether caused by illness, exposure to heat, or a simple lack of fluid intake, dehydration must be addressed immediately and, left untreated, can cause multiple health problems including organ failure and death. It is very easy for a dog to become dehydrated; easier than many pet owners realize. Fortunately it is also easy to prevent dehydration in dogs and it is very important to do so. Dog dehydration is an excess loss of bodily fluids. It most often involves the loss of water and minerals such as sodium, chloride, and potassium; collectively called electrolytes. Dehydration in dogs can be caused by illness (especially if the dog has a fever), exposure to extreme heat, and a number of other factors. A dog's natural act of panting causes a loss of fluids and can result in dehydration if they are not replaced. Remember that dogs lack sweat glands to keep them cool. They pant in an effort to regulate their body temperature. A panting dog is a hot dog.
Preventing Dog Dehydration
The best way to prevent dehydration is to make sure your dog has plenty of fresh water available. The dog should always have at least one full bowl of water available at all times and, if the dog has the run of the house, bowls in various locations may be appropriate. If you live in a dry climate dogs should be kept indoors as much as possible, especially in the hot summer months. When they are outdoors it is imperative that dogs have an available supply of fresh water. Moist foods also help maintain appropriate levels of bodily fluids in dogs. Dry foods are important for a dog's dental health, but moist foods are a good idea as well.
Treating a Dehydrated Dog
If you suspect dog dehydration, get it some water immediately and then get it to the vetrinarian. Signs of dehydration can include a lack of elasticity to the skin, dry and sunken eyes, and a dry mouth and nose. Dehydrated dogs will also experience a delay in capillary refill time. To test for this, pull the dog's lip away from its gum (gently) and press a finger against the gum until the area whitens. Release your finger and the color should return to the area almost immediately. A delay could be an indication of dehydration. Lots of water is the best way to replace fluids, but a severely dehydrated dog should not be allowed to take in large amounts at once. This will result in vomiting and a further loss of fluids. Instead let the dog drink small amounts over a period of time. Electrolytes can be replaced with a hydrating solution. Pedialyte, a water and electrolyte product sold for infants is suitable for dogs as well. Of course any dog that seems dehydrated or refuses to drink should be seen by a vet to determine appropriate treatment and whether the dehydration is a symptom of some other ailment.

"Previous studies have suggested that human pesticide exposure was impacted by living in a household with pets that were treated with flea and tick prevention products, and the children in those households had significantly higher urinary pesticide metabolite concentrations than other children and adults. These elevated exposures could be from direct contact with the treated pet and/or secondary exposure sources (i.e., contact with contaminated house dust) within the household the treated pet resides."

When you couldn't love your granddaughter any more, and you walk in the kitchen to see this after driving nine hours with Belle the day before to visit for the holiday. #GramsGirls #PridelandPups #FosterFail
One advantage to raising orphans from a very young age (6 days) is that you have the opportunity to label repetitive group activity and teach them commands at a very young age. This morning we are sharing our "place" command introduction. They enter the fenced area after sleeping in their crates and going potty in the back yard, and before I let them out this morning, I spread a blanket on the ground. They run to the blanket each morning and as they do, I say "place" - now after a few weeks of this repeated routine, they run to the blanket on command. This command is very useful if someone enters your yard, place can be the porch, or when someone knocks on the door, place can be their dog bed or the stair landing. I truly enjoy these babies and their obedience at such a tender age. They are just awesome! #PridelandFosters #PuppyLove #Rescue
Good morning to all of our Pridelanders. We have taken in an orphaned litter of eleven Rottweilerish pups that are ten days old. They are doing quite well and just enjoyed their morning meal and washcloth bath, followed by their homeopathic puppy drops, and it's off to dream land until lunch. #RescueLoveSaves
It's not every precious pile of puppies that has their very own little girl to sing them to sleep after their breakfast." Hush, quiet now, it's time to go to sleep." #GranddaughterAvery #PridelandPups
