Thank you all so much for your kind messages regarding the loss of my father. He is why I do this: trying to use my passion and my camera to highlight the profound and remarkable connections we create throughout our lives.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you are looking for a winter shoot. I am heartbroken, yes. Things are taking me longer than usual, yes. But photography makes me feel close to him. A shared art and a shared passion I will deeply miss.

I'll miss the sparkle in his eyes as he looked over your photoshoots, his constructive criticism, & the way he used to tell me how much better I am at it than he was, & how I'd disagree every time (not true, in case you're wondering, just different). It's been a painful two weeks since he left us. I imagine it will continue to feel this way for many moons to come.

Thank you all so much for your support, compassion & for still being here with me.

Here's a little peek at Matt & Miller. 🫶

Some of you may recognize Abbie and her family. 🫶

Amy reached out because she felt like she had all seasons of her family for her photo wall, except summer. So, summer we did! & summer delivered!

Abbie was just as spicy as always. Amy & Matt were just as wonderful & fun-loving as always. The beach was 🙌, the weather perfect, the lighting, well... I mean, worth a swoon, clearly.

I don't even know what else to say other than I am so grateful to these humans for trusting me a third time to capture their light-hearted & joyous relationship with their golden girl.

What a perfect evening spent w these outgoing souls. Thank you. 🖤

Okay, everyone. Here they are. Nova & his human of 12 years, Heather.

No, he is not a stuffed animal. He is a regal, wise, handsome old man who does mostly what he wants, which includes a good cuddle. 🥰

Nova set the pace for us for this session, which I never mind (even though it means I need to consciously slow my "healthcare walk"-- which is good for me). He posed like a Professional Master Level 5, never making me work for those adorable, perfect dorito ears.

I won't lie. It took everything in me (everything) not to squish his freakin' face numerous times. I still grit my teeth with the effort of holding back my cute aggression when I think of him and his "ye, I'm cute" vibe. 😎

Truly though, he was less interested in me than I was in him, & completely taken with his wonderful, gorgeous human. They've traveled far and wide around Canada together, & their connection is evident in every flick of Nova's ear, every slowed step from Heather when she feels his pace slow, every ear scritch and every hug.

What a treat to meet & spend a woods walk with these two beautiful souls.

Nova is facing some health challenges at the moment, so if you have a chance, send him some good thoughts.

Thank you, Heather. 🖤

Meet Ben & his human Joanna. 🥹

By now I think you all know I have a thing for senior animals.

Ben the Chocolate Lab is 11 years young & lives in Cape Breton. He is grey faced, EXTREMELY handsome, & with the bestest lab tail I've ever seen (yes, I gave his tail a gentle pat. No, he did not seem to mind).

He very much wanted to do his own thing for his session, as any senior should, but he eventually settled into his "job" as Experienced Model at Joanna's side with ease. We gave him lots of breaks to sniff around and have a leisurely wander, don't worry.

Other than using the 🥹 emoji, the ways I would describe Ben are: happy-go-lucky, unbothered, and dapper AF. You know that stage they reach when they have been around long enough to know they've earned the right to do whatever they want? I love meeting senior dogs in that stage of life.

& I believe Ben is in that stage. Exploring, sniffing, loving, wagging, appreciating, & inviting everyone to do it with him.

So nice to finally meet you both, Joanna & Ben. What a lovely boy you have.

A few months ago, JEP participated in a fundraiser to raise some money to help support the Fraser family while they navigated some incredibly tough challenges & tremendous loss.

Bailey, here with partner Miranda and 6 month old pup Ezra, was the winner.

This session was so good for my little photographer soul. Not only was the weather perfect, but all three of my subjects were just so in love with one another. Ezra had me laughing immediately because his 6 month old Aussie "hairdo" (the leftover puppy fur on top of his head and around his ears like a lil toupé) reminded me so much of Griffin's same hairdo at the same age. You can see from a few of the photos that his personality is as big as his 'do (& he jumps as high?). I absolutely loved hanging out with all three of these beautiful beings.

It was a warm (and a tad windy) evening full of laughs, deep affection & effortless connection, and I'm fortunate to have been a part of it.

Because this is Pride Month and I am presenting you with this amazing couple, I wanted to make sure I let my supporters know that JEP wants to be as much as a safe space for LGTBQ+ individuals as possible when it comes to getting photos done of you, your loved ones and your animals. I say "wants to be" because I might make some mistakes along the way, but I plan to learn from them.

As always, thank you so, so much for being here. & yes I have quite a few more photos of this session I am excited to share with you.

Recently, Sophi contacted me to surprise Will with a session for his senior dogs. How thoughtful is that?

By now, you all know how tender-hearted I am for senior dogs. I've had one (who JEP is named after 🥲), there have been a few in my family, and I have photographed a number of them over the years. They will never cease to amaze me; the way they let me in, share their humans with me, and show me the very best parts of that relationship, like they're showing it off.

Jax, the big ole Boxer boy with the best jowls, has had some health challenges recently at 13 years old, which prompted some photos by the water with his people.

& Karma, the quirky-eared, grey-faced girlie is 19 years young, and you wouldn't know it to meet her. She had a spring in her step for the entire session.

These two pups are so fortunate, because in their golden years and age of health issues, they have two devoted humans in their corner.

I'm so grateful to have spent one of the most beautiful May evenings with these four remarkable souls.

At last, I can tell you a little bit about these two phenomenal ladies.

Riley reached out when I posted about needing a horse & human duo to shoot. & am I ever grateful she did!

Horses & ponies have such varying personalities, which sometimes means a less than harmonious relationship to their work or environment. Some horses aren't suited to certain jobs, some absolutely must have a job to do in order to be fulfilled, & others are content being little pasture ornaments, doted on by their humans. While we have a long way to go, I do think we are getting better at recognizing this about our horses, and listening to what they're trying to tell us.

Callie, sassy little bay mare with a lot of opinions, was a little misunderstood in her last home; a pony not meant for the job she was given. Fortunately for Callie, she has Riley. Riley bought her two years ago and the rest, I think, is history.

Riley & Callie seemed so well suited for eachother in my short time with them. Callie was initially a little out of sorts with our plan to do a session, but Riley was so calm, never losing her patience with the fretting mare. We were able to get some sweet shots of both of them, even as the sky drizzled a little rain on us, & after a little snack break, Callie settled in time for the setting sun to make her appearance through the trees (although I still think Callie felt she had better things to do than humour us).

I see such a wonderful future for both of these wonderful ladies. It was such a privilege to spend the evening with both of them.

& a little note about ears.

Look, I like "ears forward" as much as the next horse gal. Ears. It's all about the ears! "Why do you look so cranky!? 😩" we implore of our (mares, mostly) horses when someone tries to take their photo.

But, when horses are relaxed & happy, they often relax their ears.

So when I see a soft expression like this, relaxed ears, & a genuine cuddly little moment between horse & human, you bet your ass I'm going to share it.

What do my horse people think? Or my non-horse followers! Let me know:

The curl of Reo's tail. How it's illuminated in the first of the day's rays. The way she is looking at her humans: "what's next?", she seems to say.

The candid cuddle against the frigid wind. Gazes linked with that of their furry loved one.

The warmth, and the chill, existing together in one photo.

This photo deserved a post all its own.

Because I said so.
