With The Pet Prep Initiative Laura wants to unify veterinary nurses, dog groomers and trainers - for happier dogs who can cope with grooming and vet care.

🌟 Stay & Train Spotlight: Charlie’s Trial Day! 🌟

Today we welcomed Charlie for his Stay & Train trial, with a focus on socialisation, appropriate play, and learning to take breaks during all the fun. 🐾

We started the morning with a solo walk to help bring his excitement levels down and build some focus. Then, we did some calm introductions — with Charlie watching the other dogs from behind a gate while practising coming away when asked. 👏

Next up was meeting another bouncy pup who matched his energy perfectly! Both were on leads at first so we could guide them if things got too much — but they hit it off beautifully. 💕

Throughout the session, we worked on pausing play, easing frustration, and recalling away from play — key skills for confident, balanced social interactions.

We ended the day with some relaxed pottering about and cuddles from the team. 🐶💛

Charlie smashed his first day — we can’t wait to see his progress! 💪

I saw a beautiful Akita x today. Behavioural euthanasia had been advised by another trainer after 10 months of working on her issues with rewards, e-collar and a slip lead. Her obedience had improved, but behaviour had not necessarily improved at all.

The problem is if you only look at training behaviour using rewards and consequence, but never look at what behaviour actually means to the dog and Address emotions, you will never succeed.

So often I see dogs who may be on their third or fourth behaviourist, yet basic understanding of behaviour, body language and emotional motivations and the function of the problem behaviours have never been discussed. Im often left feeling a bit shocked, as this seems basic to me.

Im so pleased I can give this dog a second chance- we owe it to her and her owners. Well done to her dad for reaching out. Who is clearly very worried and trying hard. 🐕❤️
