Hey guys,

Flo and I have recently divorced and I have been trying to keep the house going with the pack and kids for as long as we could but it’s past the time for us to sell our house going by our divorce decree. We have been looking for months trying to find a place that would be suitable with no luck. Most cities and counties only allow 2-4 dogs or you need a kennel license and some cities and counties do not even want to offer a kennel license. So this is the reason for this post. The kids and I have decided we have to rehome some of the pack 😢 This is so hard….but I know that each one of them will be in a great home where they’ll be loved and cared for. I thought it would be nice for these moms and dads to be with one of their pups if possible. There will be no rehoming fee but I just want to know that they will be taken into your vet within a month. This is a long post so think I’m going to post a pic of each dog and a short description in the comments. If any of you would be willing to take one of them please let me know and we’ll talk more. ⚠️ Most don’t know that poodles can carry the gene ATP7B, copper toxicosis, meaning that our doodles could also be carriers! This can cause them to store copper in their organs including the liver which can result in liver failure. Unfortunately this is something that isn’t well known yet so therefore it is not a recommended test for poodle or doodle breeders.

I encourage all of you to test your doodles for the gene. Paw Print Genetics offers the test. I’ll include the link in the comments.

The following is from an article I’ll share in the comments as well.

“In 1997, the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) changed the requirements related to copper supplementation in companion animal diets. The requirements state that when “added” to diets, chelated copper or copper sulfate must be used. Studies or feeding trials were never conducted prior to this mandate to see what the long term effects would be on companion animals.”

“Studies and research have proven this increase in CSD (copper storage disease) can be directly related to the changes in copper supplementation that Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) put into effect for dog food manufacturers. The decision to change the type of copper added to food from copper oxide to a chelated copper or copper sulfate has increased the copper exposure in many dog foods to alarmingly toxic levels.”

Excess copper in commercial dog foods can lead to liver problems. Experts at the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine talk about what signs to look for and how to advocate for stronger food regulations.
