The Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is a no kill, nonprofit animal shelter. Our vision is to end the needless killing of homeless pets, provide a safe place for them until they can be rehomed, keep pets with their families, and reduce overpopulation of domestic pets. Founded in 2011 and funded by private donations, the City of Corinth, the City of Farmington and the Alcorn County Board of Supervisor

s, the shelter is managed by community leaders, volunteers and a dedicated staff. The shelter’s funding from Corinth, Farmington and Alcorn County is used for payroll, utilities and some maintenance, while personal donations go directly to care for the animals, vet costs, supplies and food. Walmart Distribution Center in New Albany, Mississippi also donates approximately 1,500 pounds of dog and cat food to the shelter each week. The only animal shelter in a six county area of North Mississippi and West Tennessee, the Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is a private, non-profit organization. We are able to pursue our mission with support through private donations from individuals and businesses, grants from foundations and trusts, and various fundraising events. We are classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization for tax purposes and all donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Due to space issues the Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is a managed intake facility. We are not an open admissions shelter – sometimes we must turn away animals. The shelter is almost always overburdened and usually full. We have a serious pet overpopulation problem in the north Mississippi, and there are many, many dogs and cats in need. Our protocal for animal intake and our city/county contracts state that we will always accept animals from Animal Control, Police, EMTs, Fire Fighters, County Supervisors, and Emergency Services. These intakes are over 800 animals a year and so we often cannot take animals directly from the public due to space constraints. In late summer 2017, the Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter partnered with the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors to launch ACSpay, a program to provide low-cost spay/neuter for dogs and cats owned by families in Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi. for information and to register. The shelter also provides a Pet Food Bank that distributes free dog and cat food to those in need. Our goal is to keep pets with their families and reduce drop offs and shelter intakes.

It’s crucial to get outdoor pets ready for the impending cold snap this week! Highs in the 30's and lows in the teens are coming!

BRING THEM INSIDE: The best option is to keep all pets indoors. However, if they must stay outside, ensure they have adequate protection from the harsh cold. Breeds like Huskies are equipped to handle winter thanks to their thick double coats, which provide insulation. On the other hand, dogs like Pit mixes, with their thinner coats and exposed undersides, are more susceptible to the cold and should either be brought inside or given insulated shelter. Puppies and older, frail, or sick dogs are particularly at risk in cold weather and require additional protection.

PROVIDE SHELTER: When temperatures drop below 45 degrees, having access to an insulated doghouse, garage, or shed can help keep your dog warm. Dogs that are used to living indoors or in milder climates should not be left outside during freezing conditions. Make sure the shelter is readily accessible, as you may not be home when the temperatures plummet.

INSULATE SHELTER: While a plastic or wooden doghouse can shield them from wind, it won't keep them warm without proper insulation. Use straw bedding—not hay—to insulate outdoor shelters. If you’re using straw to insulate a doghouse, it should be packed tightly along the sides and back. The dog should be able to burrow down into the straw for warmth. Bales of straw typically cost $10 or less at local feed stores and can fill 3-4 doghouses.

Dogs MUST have UNFROZEN water. Be sure to check on this several times a day.

And as a reminder, the shelter, as well as other community organizations, have a food pantry for those in need (while we have donations of food). P

If you are able to help a neighbor in need by donating either food or a dog house, please bring all donations to the shelter. If donating food, remember it must be new(unopened) and in date. Any brand is accepted and large bags of dry food are most helpful. You can have delivered to or bring by the shelter at 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville, NC 28677.

📣📣📣 Stella needs your help so she can get her heartworm treatment!

Stella is one of the 27 dogs we took in from the cruelty case back in the summer! She needs to get her treatment done so it can better her chances of finding her forever home! Stella is one of many heartworm positive dogs we have and without our shelter supporters help, they’ll continue having to wait on treatments to be done. We only need $500 to cover Stella’s treatment! Any amount helps!

Roger came into the shelter just last month and is around 2 years old! If you are looking for a cat that only shows affection and is as close to purrrrect as a cat can get, Roger is your cat! He loves to love and be loved. He loves to be carried around while getting belly rubs. He just loves! Roger gets along great with other cats and has even lived with dogs before so he doesn’t mind being around them either. He enjoys napping in the window while in the catio here at the shelter but he’s happy napping in your lap also! If you are interested in adopting Roger, please apply on our website and we will set you up an appointment to come meet him at the shelter.

Meet this gorgeous girl, Josie!💜

Josie was brought to the shelter back in September and was adopted shortly after. Due to no fault of her own, she was recently brought back because of her adopter needing open heart surgery causing him to be unable to care for Josie. She is around 2 years old and is a hound mix. Josie is dog friendly and loves hard. She would do best in a home with no small children. Josie is a super smart girl who isn’t sure why she is back at the shelter so we would love to find her a home and her not have to be in the shelter life. If you are interested in meeting Josie, please fill out an application on our website and we will set you up an appointment to come meet her at the shelter.

Our sweet pups, Ellie and Finley, got to leave yesterday for their new journey in life and Tammy Essary Philamlee is who volunteered to get them there safe and sound… so THANK YOU, Tammy!!♥️

🐾🐾🐾 there’s so many moments when involved with the shelter world and in the rescue world that truly take a village to get things done and we will forever be thankful for the ones in our village who never hesitate to step up! We may not make a post each time this happens because things are usually fast paced and a bit chaotic most days- haha but we hope our village always knows how much they are appreciated!♥️

Meet our stunning boy, Andy!🐾

Andy came into the shelter back in February with his sister, Annie, who finally found her furever home recently so we’re hoping to get the same for Andy. He is only around 10 months old and is just an all around good boy! Andy is dog friendly and enjoys his playtime out in the play yards with some of the others here at the shelter. He has a medium energy level but is such an affectionate sweet boy who deserves to be living his best life in a home with a family of his own instead of continuing to grow up in the shelter life like he’s had to do so far. If you think you are interested in adopting Andy, please fill out an application on our website and we can set up an appointment for you to come meet him at the shelter!

Our Story

The Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is a no kill, nonprofit animal shelter on a mission to save the abused, neglected, abandoned and injured animals in Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi. Founded in 2011 and funded by private donations, the City of Corinth, the City of Farmington and the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors, the shelter is managed by community leaders, volunteers and a dedicated staff. The shelter’s funding from Corinth, Farmington and Alcorn County is used for payroll, utilities and some maintenance, while personal donations go directly to care for the animals, vet costs, supplies and food. Sunshine Mills in Tupelo, Mississippi also donates around 1,500 pounds of dog food to the shelter each week. Our Vision is to end the needless killing of homeless pets and help control pet overpopulation in our community. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. Because we know it can be done. And because we believe that every pet is an important life. Pets lives are important to us, however due to space issues the Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is a limited-intake facility. We are not an open admissions shelter – we must turn away animals. The shelter is almost always overburdened and usually full. We have a serious pet overpopulation problem in the north Mississippi and west Tennessee area, and there are many, many dogs and cats in need. Because of contracts, the shelter must receive all animals captured by City of Corinth animal control, Alcorn County Board of Supervisors and City of Farmington animal control. The shelter can not intake all animals from the public due to space and contractual agreements. The shelter focuses on critically injured and abused dogs and cats, and we never euthanize for time or space. Unfortunately, we can’t take every animal, and we can’t even accept every injured animal because the need in our area is so great. In late summer 2017, the Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter partnered with the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors to launch ACSpay, a new program to provide low-cost spaying for female dogs owned by low-income families in Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi who may not be able to afford it at regular cost. The cost of $25 will include the procedure and a rabies vaccination. Click here to learn more about ACSpay. The shelter also hosts a catch-and-release program for feral cats in Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi. The shelter picks up feral animals, brings them to the shelter, has the animals spayed or neutered and then releases them back into the community. The program has made a great impact on the local kitten population.
