Something to consider when looking into adopting a French Bulldog. ⬇️
🧠 KNOW BEFORE YOU COMMIT 🐾
📚 Understanding IVDD in French Bulldogs 📚
French Bulldogs are adorable, affectionate, and full of personality — but behind the cute face can come serious health risks. One of the most common and heartbreaking conditions they face is IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease).
💔 What is IVDD?
IVDD is a spinal condition where the discs between the vertebrae deteriorate or rupture, leading to pain, nerve damage, or even paralysis. It can happen suddenly — one day your dog is walking, the next they’re unable to move their back legs.
🔍 Why are Frenchies at risk?
French Bulldogs are a brachycephalic (short-nosed), dwarf breed, which makes them more vulnerable to spinal issues like IVDD. Their compact, muscular bodies and short legs contribute to this risk.
🚨 What does IVDD mean for a pet owner?
•Emergency vet visits
•Expensive surgery or months of crate rest and rehab
•Emotional stress for you and your pup
•Possible permanent disability
🧠 Do your research 💡
Before getting a French Bulldog (or any breed), please understand the breed’s potential health concerns. Ask breeders about genetic screening, and always consider adopting from a rescue that screens and educates adopters.
❤️ Frenchies are worth loving — but they deserve informed, prepared homes.
