In the past five years, 1,000 postal workers have had a finger partly or fully bitten off through a letterbox. Many others have experienced horrific, life-changing injuries, too. Why is this problem suddenly so much worse?

I love second hand bookshops and visited Pitlochry station bookshop on Tuesday but *be warned* A LOT of second hand dog related books are out of date and contain some VERY dodgy information on training and behaviour. I wanted to buy most of them to get them out of circulation! 📚 🔥

Our Second-Hand bookshop will be opening in the Stables Courtyard soon, but we need your help to fill the shelves! If you have some books that you would like to donate, then they would be very gratefully received! Just drop them off with our staff members in the Information Hub.

All proceeds from second-hand book sales go towards caring for our incredible 18th century house and estate.

I’m excited to share that I am a certified Family Dog Mediator after completing the groundbreaking L.E.G.S course by Kim Brophey.

I really enjoy working with family dogs and creating solutions that work for both the humans and their canine companions.
Family Dog Mediation is a great addition to my toolbox as it looks at dog behaviour from a fresh perspective and provides easy hacks for struggles that are simple for families to fit into their lives - what’s not to love about that?!

Kim is an applied ethologist and a powerful leading voice in the international dog behaviour and training industry and L.E.G.S combines multiple scientific disciplines.

If you’re interested in finding out more about how Family Dog Mediation could help you and your dog please do get in touch. 🐾

No dog & no caravan - but plenty dog spotting. There are a lot of hairy hot dogs in Mallorca!
Discovered a small beach they can use to cool down - if they’re fit enough to manage all those steps! 🌊

There’s a lot of really bad dog training advice on social media at the moment.

Anything that involves hurting a dog, both physically or emotionally, is completely unnecessary and has absolutely no place in modern training.

Here a behaviourist talks though exactly what’s going on in one of the clips:

Dog behaviourist reviews and provides feedback on dog training advice given by Southend Dog Training

You may have seen the allegations made on social media recently about the founders of AbsoluteDogs.

I just want to be clear that although I was certified by AbsoluteDogs (in 2018) I, like many others, have been completely shocked and, to be frank, sickened by some of the recent revelations about their (over)breeding business.

I enrolled on a couple of their courses early on, before prices were hiked and the marketing went stratospheric.
I enjoyed how they made training fun, easy and accessible to pet owners and created a positive and supportive community of trainers - which is not an easy task in dog training!

They were gimmicky and had adapted their games from other people’s work but rebranded them as their own 🚩 but it meant they had plenty useful content.

Thankfully I didn’t stay with AbsoluteDogs (done the courses and left) as I think it’s important to learn from lots of different providers, organisations and experts to gain a more extensive experience, though in fairness their training was far better than some other professional courses.

I have been waiting for the dust to settle before posting anything but my journalistic senses suspect that this could just be the start of a bigger scandal - potentially even involving the KC and other dog training education providers - and it’s likely there will be legal proceedings for defamation.

This doesn’t change what I do or how I work but I do want to remain completely transparent as I really value my clients and followers, sadly they didn’t.

Does your dog 🐕 or cat 🐈 really enjoy being pet? You might be surprised!

For many people, stroking a cat or dog is a truly wonderful experience. 🥰 It can help you feel happy and relaxed and promote feelings of contentment and companionship. 💞

But do cats and dogs always enjoy it? 🤔

Some cats and dogs love to be stroked and petted and will seek out affection from anyone willing to offer it. 😂 Others actively dislike it or find it worrying. Even the friendliest of dogs and cats don’t necessarily enjoy being approached and touched by strangers.

Some dogs really enjoy pets from members of their family but feel very uncomfortable being petted by strangers. Other dogs love to be fussed and stroked by everyone.

Cats can be pretty selective too! 😅

Never assume a dog or cat is going to want to be stroked by someone they don’t know (or even by someone they do know!). Getting consent, and being sure that consent is ongoing, is so important. ✅

Waiting for your pet to come to you and initiate attention means you know for sure that they are participating willingly. It’s also a great idea to stop every few seconds to make sure they are still enjoying the experience. They’ll make it obvious if they want more by leaning in or nudging you to continue. 🙂 Always let your dog or cat move away if they’ve had enough or start to feel uncomfortable.

Animals also have preferences about where they are comfortable being petted. Just like people, every animal is an individual, but here are some things to keep in mind that will help everyone stay safe and happy:

🐾 Cats typically prefer to be stroked around the face.
🐶 Dogs may feel most comfortable being stroked on the shoulders and chest area and under the chin.
🐾 It can help to get down to their level. Leaning over an animal’s head can be very worrying for them.
🐶 Stroke in the direction of the fur, not against it.
🐾 Always ask permission before approaching a dog or cat you don’t know.
🐶 If the animal’s owner says “no”, always respect their request. You probably wouldn’t want a stranger hugging you either!
🐾 Always give pets a choice to interact. Letting them approach you to initiate contact is the best way to be sure they are consenting.
🐶 Stop petting every 3-5 seconds and allow your pet the option of showing they are still enjoying your attention and participating willingly.
🐾 Interactions between animals and children should always be supervised.
🐶 Having a healthy respect for an animal’s boundaries will keep everyone safe and happy.

If you have permission to pet, these are the areas cats and dogs are most likely to enjoy being stroked. Always check first, because every dog and cat is different! 🙂

Probably the most useful course ever created 🤣

We’ll be honest… What we’re about to tell you has been a long time in the works.

We’ve had countless meetings 👩‍💼, planning 🧑‍💻, building, formulating the perfect badge to achieve what many believe is the impossible…something no one else has done… something many have tried, but failed to achieve… and it wasn’t easy…

Here it is…do you have a spouse, partner or significant other that questions everything you do with your dog? 😕

Do they dismiss it or doubt the benefits? Maybe they just don’t want to put in the work? 😩

Perhaps they think they already have all the know-how (mostly comprised of what they’ve seen on the television 😱) and refuse to listen when you try to share the methods you KNOW achieve real life results that you’ve spent countless hours learning all you can about?

We’ve kept the secret 🤫 long enough…

Watch our brand new ✨, just released YouTube video to find out all the details on our immersive new course, AbsoluteSpouse. 🤯

You’ll be surprised just how affordable getting your partner on board will be. 🥳

This course truly can empower & transform ANYONE into a gamechanger (yes, even them! 😅)… into someone that embraces games-based training with a zeal that is contagious… after all, who can say “not for me” to long lasting real-life results? 🔥

You train your dog.
We’ll train your spouse. 😉

When you’re visiting somewhere new with your dog you can never be sure there won’t be something round the corner or behind bushes so it’s better to be safe than sorry - even if they usually show no interest in 🐴 🐮 🐑

I find it easiest to use a biothene lead clipped on the back of a harness that can trail behind them, just keep an eye on it for catching round trees etc.
