This Saturday, November 2nd, the McKinney Farmers Market will be celebrating Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead) 🌺💀❤️. Join us as we honor the memory of loved ones who have passed by shopping for all their favorite things. According to tradition, it’s believed that on this special day, the spirits return to the world of the living to spend time with their families 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦.

The celebration is filled with joy and love, as families honor the departed by placing their favorite items on decorated altars, known as Ofrendas. These offerings symbolize the things the spirits enjoyed in life, and it is believed they come back to retrieve them on this day.

One of the most iconic symbols of Día de los Mu***os is the skull, which you'll find in the festival’s art, including makeup, masks, and sugar skulls. Today, the skull has become a playful representation of life after death, reminding us that death is a natural part of life and helping to ease the fear of it by showing the deceased continuing their lives in the afterlife.

👉 Come dressed for the occasion and visit the Ofrenda we’ll have on display at the market to honor those who have passed. Feel free to bring a picture of your loved one and place it on the altar as part of the tribute.

Did you know that the average worker bee lives for just 5-6 weeks and will produce around 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey? Come see live worker bees in an observation hive & learn more about honeybees from our friends at SAVE THE BEES!

SAVE THE BEES USA is a passionate nonprofit organization dedicated to bee conservation and pollinator protection across the United States. They are committed to preserving healthy and sustainable ecosystems by raising awareness, educating communities, and implementing effective solutions to combat the decline of bee populations. Their programs focus on initiatives such as the School Observation Bee Hive, Adopt A Hive, Bumblebee Restoration, and creating bee-friendly habitats to ensure that bees continue to play their vital role in pollination and biodiversity. They will have items for sale that will get you started on creating your own bee-friendly habitats.
