Save Some Souls We are a 501c(3) non-profit organization, committed to the rescue of strays & shelter dogs of TX Our rescue is completely foster-based.

Houston has a massive problem with backyard breeding and people not wanting to fix their pets. Therefore people take German shepherd and malinois puppies and then they dump them when the puppies become large adults and are hard to handle, as they don't train or socialize them. These dogs end up in bite quarantine and shelters or on the side of the roads. Save Some Souls have been saving lives of t

hese hard to adopt dogs, by pulling them from streets and shelters, and sending them to foster homes, or training camps, where they get rehabbed. They receive obedience training, they go to daycare for socialization, and they work with a specialized trainer for behavior modification so that they could become adoptable. Dogs are taken from shelters or streets to the vet for an initial checkup, after which they go to foster homes. Once in foster homes, we get them fixed and chipped. We treat our heartworm positive dogs, and then we start looking for their perfect homes, all over USA and Canada. Then we aim to find the best matched homes for our dogs so that they could thrive and have the most wonderful happy, healthy life with their forever families. All the shelters in Houston are kill shelters. Therefore, our first mission is to rescue the most vulnerable pet from the streets so that they don't end up in a shelter where they are further traumatized and euthanized. Secondly, our mission is to rescue from the shelter an urgent dog who is up for euthanasia due to lack of space and interest from local adopters. Thirdly, our mission is to move the dogs in our care to their perfectly matched forever homes, so we can open space in the foster home to save the next one. Since our dogs are large and protective breed, we have to be extra careful about where to place them, so that they are not endangering their adopters or their family members, at the same time they are themselves not at risk by going to the wrong home. Our pets are companion animals, and not service animals. After adoption, our fosters and adoptive families keep in touch with each other. We take back our pets if an adoption does not work out. Our commitment is forever to our pets, therefore, we reserve the rights to cancel an adoption at any time, if we suddenly discover something that makes the adoption detrimental to the pet and the adopters. Once we have rescued an animal, we stand by them forever. In many instances, we have had puppies who suddenly became sick with parvo, or distemper, or coccidia. We have saved their lives by making sure they get the best treatment. We have also rehabbed and placed many reactive and unadoptable dogs, such as Strider, Rocco, and Justice, to name but a few, in homes that are perfect for their temperament. We do not euthanize our aggressive dogs, as we work with our trainers to understand the problem first, and then, either they stay in permanent foster care, or they find the homes that are willing to put in the work with us. Our entire adoption fee goes towards the vetting of our dogs. Many times we have to raise funds to help with additional vetting. We aim to have a sanctuary by the end of 2024 where we can house our unadoptable and senior dogs, so that we won't have to say no to a needy animal for lack of space.

ADOPT GRETA ❤️

Greta is 2 year old, highly intelligent, and extremely affectionate big baby, who is also very obedient, housebroken, and easily trainable. She loves car rides and is a very smart passenger.

Greta loves humans and will snuggle with them at any given chance. She lives with 11 dogs and 4 cats, and does well with both. Her foster parents love her and think she will make an amazing companion.

She does NOT resource guard, and she gets along with everyone. She does get into trouble when you are not watching, but then what is a GSD if they don’t drive you crazy at times?

She loves bellyrubs, and cuddles. She needs a fully fenced yard to have her zoomies.

Greta currently weighs 67 lbs, fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped. and heartworm negative. She is kept on heartworm and flea preventative.

She is being fostered in Texas, but can travel to many states and even .

Brutus has had a significant weight loss, and it's not from ozempic. The healthy meal his home boarder has been feeding him every day, is helping him drop the pounds, and making him walk and play with his doggie friends with new found vigor. He is no longer limping either.

Brutus is now looking for a very patient and truly compassionate foster or forever or foster-to-adopt home in Texas.

The ideal home for this sweet boy will be with someone who really an animal lover and has rescued English bulldogs before.

Brutus needs time, and patience when he moves. He has gone through a LOT in his 4-5 years of age. All his life, he has only received cruelty instead of love. Yet, he is a loving, velcro dog who has so much love to offer.

Brutus took 48 hours to trust his last foster parents in Memphis, and after that he was sleeping on bed with them, along with their two other puppers.

Brutus needs to fully trust and bond with his human before he can be taken on car rides, otherwise he will go berserk with his fear of being dropped off somewhere bad. He has reasons to act that way, because he has had several changes of hands and his last owner took him to the pound to get him euthanized.

Brutus does not have extravagant demands. He just needs a space where he can decompress when he moves. He needs someone who will be able to give him TIME, and take him on walks, watch his weight, and treat him like a royal English bulldog. He is a very loving pup, and once he knows he is safe, he will become a velcro dog.

Brutus is fully vetted, neutered and microchipped. He is good with both dogs and cats. His first pilot who brought him to Houston lifted him into his plane to give him a ride from Dallas. All the way, he sat at the back with his toddlers and didn't want to leave the kiddos when he arrived. We have to get him back to that position, but we need one compassionate and patient person to give him the chance at life.

If you are able to foster Brutus, please contact us directly via facebook or fill out this foster application at https://form.jotform.com/241251426631044

Let's join hands to save Brutus.

We are in raptures after receiving the latest updates from Kody’s new parents ❤️

Our sweet but extremely anxious schnoodle, KODY (Jalapeño), who was held in a bite quarantine back in April at the West U pound, until he was pulled by , is finally HOME!!!

We must thank our senior spaniel - OG Kodak (now King Arfer)’s forever mom Stef, who stepped up to foster Kody when we were trying to save him, despite knowing his history. Fostering absolutely saves lives - multiple lives!!

After two and half months of decompression, constant monitoring of his triggers, understanding of his needs, and the assistance of a wonderful trainer Ms. Brendolyn Davis, Kody finally started conquering his fears to become the amazing pup that he was masking all this time.

Kody found his forever parents in Michigan and we were so fortunate to receive the help of the incredibly generous pilots of , who flew him this weekend from Houston to Detroit, without taking him out of the travel crate to avoid any fear triggers.

Our heartfelt gratitude for pilots Robert Slaughter, Roger Stiver, Mike Ellis, Ryan Goldbacher, and David Gingrich, who became an integral part of Kody’s journey.

This sweet boy went through so much when he was found by Officer Aaron of West U pound, tied to a pole in front of a gas station, during one of the terrible storms in Houston. God knows how long he was outside, fending for himself, starved and scared. We can understand why he gets defensive. Humans are so unkind to our furry friends.

Well Kody, We are so excited that your parents saw your post and, wanted you even more when they learned about your tragic past, promising to give you the time needed and never to give up on you. That’s all we want for our babies. 💕

We are so excited that you are finally home, safe and loved!! You so deserve this!

Happy, happy tails Kody boy!
😍🐾🎉

Super adorable WINNIE was born at on 11/6/22 to a mutt mom Sundae, who gave birth to 10 beautiful pups on the day she was being pulled.

While all her siblings and mom have found the bestest homes, Winnie did not have their luck, despite being an amazing pup.

Winnie continues to love and trust every human and animal, and has no mean bone in her body.
She has a lovely foster home where she gets to be a playful and affectionate puppy again.

Winnie is a super sweet, 19 months old lovebug who is only 45 lb, and is fully vaccinated and spayed, as well as heartworm negative and kept on preventatives. She will be both a great alarm system and the perfect companion to your pups and kitties. She is playful and super smart, thanks to all the amazing DNA she comes with.

Winnie is being fostered in Texas, but can be adopted anywhere in the States, even Canada.

To meet this sweet girl via facetime or whatsapp, please send your application to savesomesouls.com

08/06/2024

Holiday season is always challenging for our pups, as people get rid of their pets before traveling, and rescues have to pick 'em up to save their lives. The pups move between temporary foster homes or are stuck in boarding until everyone is back from vacation.

During this time, vet bills and boarding fees keep adding up, dog food, and puppy pads keep adding up, supplements and preventatives keep adding up. Training and supplies for our behavioral dogs, such as the right crate, the right harness, the right collar etc keep adding up.

In the month of May, Houston was under the weather and we had to rescue 8 new adorable dogs, in horrible conditions - from mange to parvo! Nugget (with parvo), Buddy (cryptorchid), Scooby (demodex), Zeus (heartworm), Baxter (skin condition/allergy), Greta, Luna (skin condition), and Millie (skin allergy). They need vet care, spay neuter funds, and Luna urgently needs grooming help.

Therefore, we are now forced to close intake as we have no space, or funds to help new dogs. It is terrible as we take the ones whom no one wants - the fear biters, the crate breakers, the houdinis, the barkers, the bonded pairs, the black dogs, the shepherds, the huskies, the malinois and the rotties.

We are going to have to concentrate on healing our current medical pups, and take care of our behavioral pups, so they can find their own homes, and then we can start rescuing again.

We will really appreciate if you can please share our post for donations as that will cover our vet and boarding fees. If you would like to sponsor the calming care for Justice, Zeus and Brutus, that will be great help.

Donations can be made via

Please feel free to share this post to get help.

Thank you so much for supporting our cause to help the unwanted pups of Houston.

Guess who is now healed from his neuter surgery and ready for his forever home?

Yep, our handsome BUDDY🎉

5 months old Buddy was found in a park, starving, shaking, yet very sweet.

He is currently living with two kids, three dogs of different age and sizes, and one cat, and he is doing great with everyone. Buddy also loves to go on walks and gets super excited as soon as the leash comes out.

Buddy will love a home where he has another doggie playmate, kitties will be a bonus friend, and a fenced in yard. He is very loving and affectionate, and extremely intelligent. No wonder he survived the streets during our storms.

Our vet thinks Buddy is a dachshund mix but we will call him a terrier; he is currently a 16 lb, hypoallergenic puppy, who is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and kept on heartworm and flea preventatives.

To adopt this amazing puppy, please send an application via savesomesouls.com and we will be happy to match him to your home.

Buddy is currently being fostered in Houston but can be transported to anywhere in the States and even in to the right home.

Let’s find Buddy his perfect family.

We are in need of medical attention for Zeus, the 2 year old German Shepherd, whose owners left him behind right before the storm in Houston.

Zeus has severe separation anxiety, and needs an impact kennel, as he keeps coming out of the crate by breaking out and he already hurt his mouth doing so.

He has already been vaccinated, and heartworm tested. He is heartworm positive, he needs to be neutered (80lb), and he is on anti-inflammation for his limp.

He is a sweet boy who loves dogs and cats, and adores humans. But he needs his medical taken care before he can be placed.
Any help will be so appreciated as usual.

You can donate towards his spotfund campaign.

We are so proud of ONYX, who was rescued from back in January and went to his forever home in Canada early this month.
His doting parents waited patiently for a long time till we could arrange transport, but also because he needed to be fully socialized for travel.
Onyx is so loved and he is such a different pup than how we had first got him, thanks to his foster mom Leigh, who worked with him everyday, to build trust and become a happy pup.
Onyx was in for a long time, and had a lot of fear, trauma and stress. But with patience, lot of decompression, and a very loving foster home, Onyx is now thriving with his forever parents, traveling to different places with them and living the best life we always pray for our pups to get.

Happy Tails, Onyx

COMMITTED FOSTER NEEDED IN HOUSTON / AROUND

Our sweet 5yo Brutus is back in after staying a month and half in Memphis with his lovely Foster parents, Billy and Crystal, who even flew him directly to Houston, so he could get his complete medical done.

Brutus came to us from Dallas where his previous owners were going to euthanize him as they didn’t have means to feed him. However we were notified on time, and Brutus flew from Dallas to Houston with volunteer pilot and his toddler who sat at the back with Brutus to keep him company. He was a sweet pup until he was asked to get off the car. That’s when we found out that he had car reactivity in certain cars.

After speaking with many behaviorists and trainers about this, we were advised to get his leg checked. He went to vet last week in Memphis and it turned out, he does protect one of his back legs by not bearing weight. His behaviorist thinks that the pain might be flared up when he hops into the car and makes him nervous to get off.

We have brought him back to Houston to start his treatment. However, we need a foster who can hold him through this.

Brutus, like all English bulldogs, is a loving pup who wants to be a velcro family member. But he has been used for breeding and never received affection or love. He craves for it. Therefore he needs someone compassionate and patient who can offer him that privilege, while healing him.

Brutus is good with dogs and cats. He is also great with kids but we are looking for a home without kids. He is 65 lb, fully vaccinated, neutered and chipped. He is quiet, goofy and extremely loving once he trusts you.

To foster, or foster-to-adopt, or adopt Brutus, please send an email to [email protected]

Our darling COCO CHANEL finally found the perfect home in Colorado and flew with volunteers Capt. Mike, Bharat, Vickie, and Dan, while being fostered overnight in Longmont by Elizabeth.
Her mom picked her up in the morning and she met her new brother Bahu after decompression. They have been inseparable since, and her parents are in love with her. 😍

Coco was adopted as a 9 week old puppy from and found as a 6 months old puppy by a Good Samaritan. Her microchip led her to her owner who refused to take her back, and surrendered her to

We are so grateful that Coco’s Houston foster mom Marian had space and could take her in and refused to let her go anywhere until she found the absolutely fabulous home.

Happy Tails, Coco Chanel. We are so thrilled for your new life. 💕🐾😍

🚨PARVO PUPPY NEEDS TREATMENT 🚨

Sweet 8-10 weeks old puppy Nugget came to this evening, but when he went to get his shots, he tested positive for parvo.

Nugget’s owners (who used to call him Zeus), did not follow puppy safety protocols and that’s why he got hit by something so preventable.

He is currently in a medical foster home, and being an absolute sweetheart, who, despite not feeling well, makes it a point to give kisses to his foster mom.

We are very keen to treat him with the new monoclonal antibody that has saved the lives of many parvo puppies.

Nugget needs prayers and donations to survive this awful disease and fully recover as fast as possible

Any donation towards his parvo treatment will be highly appreciated. Donations can be made via Zelle at [email protected] or PayPal and Venmo @ savesomesouls or via *link in bio*

Get well soon, Nugget 💙

Sweet ZUKO, our 9 year old gem!

Adopted from when he was only a year old, Zuko fell victim to extreme neglect when his previous owners had a second baby and decided to keep him in their small townhome yard, where the now 9 year old sweet boy spent his days and nights alone, suffering from ear infection and allergies, getting terrified of thunderstorm and rain.

Seeing his miserable condition, his broken hearted former petsitter requested the owners to surrender him to our rescue, and Zuko finally found a warm bed, lot of love, and refuge from bad weather. It breaks our heart to see how scared he is of thunderstorms, and we cannot imagine how he lived alone outside so long. We truly hope that his previous owners never get an animal again.

Zuko is an absolute lovebug, very bonded to his foster brother and foster mom. He goes on walks with his foster dad and meets dogs on the way, without any problem. He hardly barks, and is completely housebroken. He is very quiet and obedient.

He is extremely sweet and velcro, and will do great in a home where he can get a lot of attention.

Zuko loves his toys, but mostly he loves his humans.

Zuko is around 46 lb, fully vaccinated, neutered and chipped. He is also heartworm negative and kept on preventatives.

To adopt this beautiful boy, please send an application via savesomesouls.com. He is currently in Houston, but can travel to many states, including if the home is right.

Yards must be fully and adequately fenced to adopt our pups.

Guess who is looking for his forever home?

JASE BEAR!!!! Jason/JC/Jase - so many loving names from everyone who meets this sweetheart.

Jase is all of 4 months now, and extremely calm pup.

He is completely velcro with his humans, but also loves to play with his foster human, doggie and kittie siblings. He is a great addition to any home with a hyperactive pup as he will balance them out with his calm energy.

Jase is around 22 lb, fully vaccinated, neutered, chipped, current on his shots, and kept on heartworm and flea prevention, as well as deworming schedule.

Check out his video and you can see what a gem he is.

To adopt Jase, send an application via savesomesouls.com or contact us via [email protected]

We are requesting help with our incredibly large vet bill from a few dogs we took in the last few months during the storm and hard freeze.

As you know Save Some Souls helps the large breed behavioral and senior dogs, who hardly get a chance, by taking them in, rehabbing them and finding them amazing homes. However, many of these pups come with years of neglect, causing them to have severe health issues, hence the high vet bill.

Therefore we are forced to close intake as we are unable to help any other animal in need.

We hope we will be able to get this covered soon, and can continue to help the unwanted dogs of Texas.

Any amount will help. Please share if you are unable to donate, so we can pull ourselves out of this.

EXTREMELY NEGLECTED & UNWELL ENGLISH BULLDOG AYSHA NEEDS VETTING DONATIONS via http://spot.fund/ldgp2sc

Last month we rescued an extremely neglected dog from Conroe Animal Shelter with severe health issue, including heartworms, upper respiratory infection that was quite challenging due to her breed, skin allergy, ear infection, hookworms, heartworms, and she was diagnosed with Grade 4 Heart murmur.

She even has a huge c-section scar on her belly, indicating she was used for breeding before being abandoned.

When we took her to spay on Wednesday, we were told to wait as Aisha is brachycephalic, and on top of that, she has Heart murmur, so her spay surgery is very risky.

An ultrasound revealed that her heart condition is not congenital, but due to HWI, for which she is now taking medication.
We have to hold her longer in foster home, until her heart becomes normal and she can get spayed.

We have taken in many dogs in the last few months, and many of our dogs are permanent fosters. We are not equipped to handle sudden medical expenses. These expenses cause our rescue to stop intake as we cannot take care of regular maintenance and vetting expenses for our fosters, most of who are behavioral or sick.

Therefore, we need your support and help to continue with our mission. We have been able to post one of the medical invoice but not the radiology invoice yet.

You can donate towards her campaign at http://spot.fund/ldgp2sc
Or you can zelle at [email protected]
Or venmo at savesomesouls
Or PayPal at paypal.com/savesomesouls

Your support helps our rescue continue saving the most unadaptable dogs and finding them safety. Any amount will help. If you cannot donate, please help the rescue by sharing this campaign.

Meet Jason ❤️

He is a 13 lb boxer mix who currently has all his shots and is dewormed. He is 3 months old and healthy. He is also going to stay on his flea and heartworm prevention and deworming schedule.

He is super sweet, and super loving. He follows his foster mom around, and is going to make someone a very happy pet parent. He is also good with other dogs and being so young, he can be easily trained by any kittie sibling he might have.

To adopt this cutie, send an application via savesomesouls.com

Jason will be neutered before being sent to his forever home.

Jason can go to any state, and also to Canada to the right home. Puppies must have at least one stay at home or remote working parent, to make the adoption successful.

Let’s find Jason the best home possible.
