Fantastic week at the Royal Highland Show for our small wee Hebby flock 🥰🥰

We took 7 sheep and everyone was placed! 🧡🧡
We also took two fleeces which placed🥇 and 🥉!

9 entries, 9 rosettes 🏵️ What a good team!

Thank you to Morna 💛 for showing Harrier and to Sam 💜 for (your sheep showing debut) helping John with the rest of the gang while I was off competing with the horse! It meant I didn’t have a grumpy husband as you were awesome! 🤩

I can confirm that an A. W. Jenkinson Forest Products riding arena surface makes a cosy bed for a Hebridean sheep! 🤣🤣

Good reasons to have your trailer serviced!
Lucky for us the brake shoe gave way during the service rather than the next time we drove it!

Thanks Chris Hartley Engineering - Mobile Horse Trailer Servicing for coming to us to carry out the servicing. It’s so cool having someone come to you! makes life so much easier 🧡🧡

If you are based in northern England and South Scotland get in touch with Chris to see about getting yours serviced for peace of mind! 🧡

Nano sheep is still friendly enough to come for a wee face scratch 🥰🥰 despite being a mum to her lamb Pico. She hasn’t trained Pico lamb to come to us yet…

I could be wrong but don’t think I should be taking a photo instead of reading the weigh scales…🤣🤣 oops 😬

A wee update on Claude and Percival 🥰

They are doing fab, growing well and now moved out to the fields to start learning to eat grass. We moved them to an ad lib feeder when we returned to work which is working well.

We put warm milk in the morning and allow it to cool down. We read on a farming forum that doing it this way means they are less likely to end up pot bellied as they tend to drink little and often rather than gorging on a warm feeder. No idea if it’s true but it seems to be working well for these two 🥰☺️

They are now coming in at night and out during the day, they have been consistently drinking just over 2 litres a day between them and since going out this is very steadily starting to drop.

We haven’t quite worked out when we can start leaving them out overnight so currently they (and their sheep hurdle with feeder attached!) come into the straw pen overnight and then out during the day. 🥰

Here is a wee video of our set up for outside. 🥰

Pet lambs = total time wasters!

Percy and Claude’s first day outside.
They seemed happy enough, only went out for a short time and have a straw filled den to snuggle into.

So with lambing nearly over for us (we only have two gimmers due in a couple of weeks) it’s been a fairly successful week with lots of healthy lambs. Sadly we did lose one of our lovely ewes and as such we ended up with a single pet lamb to rear.

Thank you Duneaton Equestrian (aka Duneaton Hebrideans!) for letting me have your pet lamb ‘Claude’ to keep our ‘Percival’ company.

Here is a wee snippet of Percy and Claude’s first day as brothers from another mother… 😍

also spot the sheepskin saddle cloth i put in for a cosy bed 🤣🤣

A wee while ago I picked up some pallet weigh scales with the idea to make them into horse weigh scales. they need rubber matting and a slightly wider platform making (30cm either side)to enable them to work for the horses but as they weigh up to 2.5ton I think we can make it happen at some point.

Anyway we found that they were much easier to use for the sheep than the usual sheep scales 😂

Here is Wiay demonstrating them… what do you think his weight is in Kgs? 😊

This is not your field….!

These naughty boys took themselves off for an explore overnight. It took 1.5 hours to locate them after we checked fields, ditches, the neighbours gardens and the roads!

Thank goodness nothing bad happened!

This weekend we were at the fabulous and local Peebles show. There was a great turnout of Hebs judged by Slipperfield Croft’s JJ.

Very pleased with our results, placing mostly 2nd but our aged ewe Bryland Mischief who won her class went on to become reserve champion 🥰🥰

Well done to David Braithwaite for his champion and to Elizabeth Jack for winning the four horn trophy.

Lastly John also entered two fleeces for the coloured fleece classes and not only placed first and second but his fleece went on to be placed RESERVE CHAMPION out of all the fleeces present! woohoo! 👏👏🧡🧡

managed a few ’s too! 🥰

Such a fabulous day today at the Royal Highland Show. Our sheepies didn’t disappoint in very large classes and out of 6 sheep we were placed with 3 and we were also 3rd in the naturally coloured fleece competition too 🥰🥰

I was also given a black sheepy pom pom made by Make Mess Matter - Messy Play Parties & Events from their fab children’s pom pom crafting sessions 🥰🥰 made my day so thank you!

And the best part of the day is catching up with great friends 🧡🧡 These make the best days 🧡🧡

This is my favourite little ewe, this is Nanolamb.

She is teensie but cute. She was bottle fed for a few days when she was born, she won’t come to me when i call her but she seems super happy to let me hug her when we feed the flock 🥰🥰. How flipping cute is little Nano 🧡🧡
