We tried something new! If you’ve never tried working equitation, it’s worth getting out and giving it a shot. Zuko was completely at ease with the obstacles and rose to the challenge. We conquered the garrocha pole and didn’t even stab an eye out 😂 Best of all, Zuko was a solid citizen and didn’t bat an eye in a group of cute mares.

It has been quite an adventure getting the right saddle for Zuko 🤦‍♀️ Thank goodness for Gabby Diakon at GMD Saddle Fitting for coming out over and over again and trying literally every brand to make Zuko happy. He said “no” over and over again to saddles that appeared to fit perfectly but he kept telling us that it just wasn’t right.

I listened, and with the help of Gabby, we finally found one he approved of…a beautiful DP made specifically for the Iberian horses, complete with a flexible tree and customizable as he gains additional muscle. I highly recommend Gabby for all the hard to fit horses out there!

Remember King, the March 2023 save from a kill pen? This last year he’s filled many roles and he’s become the go-to horse for babysitting youngsters on hacks through the farm. EVERY SINGLE DAY this horse stands outside of his stall and patiently waits for me to pull him out for his turn. If I take too long, or am tacking up another horse, he BANGS on the door until I come get him. King loves attention and going out for rides, though he’s stoic on the outside and it has taken a long time to get him out of his shell. Today we did what he loves…we hunter paced over 5.75 miles of gorgeous countryside and traversed some pretty crazy terrain - sliding down rocky trails, jumping through ravines, visits from black tree snakes and surviving a few very sketchy bridges! He loved EVERY minute!! Me…I could have passed on the sliding and snakes 😳Thank you Haylee and her trusty Apollo for once again coming along for the adventure!
