Wagoner County Investigators charge Wagoner man with Cruelty to Animals

On 06/29/2024 Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office Lt. J. Hutton, received information that an individual wanted to report animal abuse that had occurred. Lt. Hutton made contact with the Reporting Party at the Wagoner County Sheriff's Office.

The reporting party stated that on 03-20-2024, she and her ex-boyfriend had went to the lake in the Toppers Area and took her dog. She stated that while at the lake, an argument started between the two and the ex-boyfriend became angry. After becoming angry the ex-boyfriend grabbed the dog by the leash and tied the leash to the tailgate of the truck. He then got back into the truck and proceeded to drive away, dragging the dog behind the truck.

The Reporting Party forced the truck into the park position, stopping the vehicle. She then exited the truck and checked on the condition of the dog. As she was doing so the ex-boyfriend drove away again dragging the dog again. The ex- boyfriend then allowed the reporting parting and the dog back in the vehicle to be taken home.

The animal owner took the dog to a veterinarian immediately after the incident to have the animals’ injuries treated. When asked why it wasn’t reported sooner, the reporting party was fearful for any retribution due to threats if it was reported. With this information Lt. Hutton contacted a Wagoner County Investigator to assist.

A Wagoner County Investigator went to the location where the incident occurred and took photographs and measurements of the area. It was determined by an Investigator that the dog had been dragged a significant distance before being untied and put back into the vehicle. With this information an arrest warrant affidavit was filed with the Wagoner County District Attorney’s Office for Cruelty to Animals.

The suspect in the case was identified as Tyler A. Wayman of Wagoner, OK. An arrest warrant was issued on 07-23-2024 for a Felony charge of Cruelty to Animals. He surrendered himself to the Wagoner County Detention Center on 08-06-2024 and was released after posting a $10,000 bond.

Update; Toppers dog is safe! Any questions refer to Wagoner County Sheriff's Department.

Apparently wagoner County sheriff department has decided to follow up on the toppers dog. Hopefully the owner will be held accountable and the dog will get the much needed attention he deserves. Wags is no longer involved in this situation. Thanks to all who have shared his story and voiced your concern over the situation the dog was left in. It takes a village to affect change. No doubt this post and your response to it brought a positive outcome to this.

This dog is at toppers. Wagoner people know where this is for those that don't its outside wagoner and is a lakeside community where dogs and cats are dumped on a regular basis. This one was locked in a shed and abandoned by the occupants of a rental home. The next door neighbor called wagoner County sheriff. A deputy came and let the dog out of the shed but decided since the dog had access to the shed and supposedly food and water no charges should be filed. The next door neighbor reached out to wags for help. All we can do is help with dog food at this time. I cannot physically or financially take on another dog. The neighbor is going over 3 times a day to feed and water him. I advised her to give him small frequent meals. She told me he will sit, shake and stay. He is not in a fenced yard.it breaks my heart to not be able to take him in. I am posting this in hopes that people will share this post. Maybe someone, somewhere can help. We have reached out to multiple rescues including OAA but no one has been able to help. Please share this post anywhere and everywhere. If a home can't be found the only other alternative will be euthanasia.

Wags has been contacted about 3 dogs in need of a home. Although I cannot take them in, I am posting them here in hopes someone will give them a chance. Lee is networking them with other rescues but we aren't hopeful that any will have room at this point. The border collie mix is young 10 to 12 months old and was dumped in a wooded area, the terrier-chi mix is probably close to 2. The last pic has a bio included

In case the WAGS page gets removed, this is the reason why. We don't know if this is a spam message or someone trying to hack the page. We have not and will not respond.
If anyone knows or has been affected by messages like this, please send us a message. If we do lose the Rescue page, we may or may not make another. This is disheartening and not sure what is going on. Thank you to our followers and supporters 🩵🐾🐾

Question. What happens when you have been involved in the world of rescue for over 30 years, have helped the worst cases, taken on dogs that other rescues won't touch, helped countless people with food, vet bills, grooming needs etc, only to find yourself 56 years old, recently divorced, working 2 jobs to keep utilities paid and dogs needs met and suddenly out of state rescues, namely Anderson humane society, that I have sent hundreds if not thousands of dogs to over many years, no longer pick the dogs I submit for their transport and adoption program? I know other people in rescue who send to other states but they can't help either. No one locally wants any of these dogs. I have posted them throughout the years and crickets. I have 2 ladies that donate food monthly. 2! Out of all the people and all the dogs that I have been there for only 2 care enough to donate a bag of food or canned food monthly. There are currently 22 dogs here. Most are not adoptable and I would never transport or adopt one that I know has issues that most people would not know how to deal with. In all honesty if I can't provide for them then I will have no other choice but to have them put down. So my question is what to do with those that are adoptable but no one wants? They are all 3 years old and under, healthy and seemingly happy dogs. What fate awaits them? I honestly wish I had never become involved in rescue. The heartbreak it has brought cannot be described. I can't educate those who choose to live in ignorance nor can I house, feed and care for the many strays that I am contacted about daily. I am really struggling with decisions that I know will eventually have to be made but I just can't force myself to make them. Please be kind if you choose to answer. This is a predicament I never ever thought o would find myself in and a post I struggled to do. I need honest opinions not judgmental condemnation. I beat myself up daily more than anyone else could ever be capable of so please just be kind.

Warmest thanks and gratitude to those who have donated food, money to the vet bill, garage sale items or shopped at the garage sale benefits this past year. Always know any help has always been a blessing to me but moreso to pets that have been Given a second chance through the years. That being said, beginning immediately we are going to change the rescue to a sanctuary to focus on the dogs that are here and obviously never going to get adopted or transported out. If people want the resources offered by rescues then they need to be supported by the community. This has been a constant struggle with wagoner county. Please know this has not been an easy decision but I simply do not have the resources to take on any more knowing they may be stuck here indefinitely. I sincerely hope those who have followed wags and contributed to this effort will understand.
