'Baadi' translates to 'home' in Bangla. It remains a family home where two generations of children and dogs, peacocks and (several) of owls and squirrels have been raised and flown the nest. The structure is the work of Prodipto Ghosh - an award winning architect and son of the owners. An elegant play of light is crafted to warm a home looking inwards to a family room and outwards to green. It is
designed to enjoy nature in quiet privacy. From time to time, we personally invite likeminded people to share a meal with us, for restorative short stays (we are listed on Airbnb) and to enjoy art with us. The proof to himself that he could. A right of passage between father and son and a vindication for his mother. It is a structure that reflects everything one could want in an ideal home - privacy, the play of natural light, green as you look outwards and a space for the family to home together in its core. Over 24 years many young people have been through Baadi. There have been celebrations for graduations, first scholarships, courtships, engagements, weddings, funerals, beginnings and ends. The trees, bird life and the two and four legged family members have lived through the ups and downs that is life. As tends to happen in old family homes, the walls have memories of music, whispered confidences, ferocious arguments and tender quietness. This is our home - resilient and constant.
