Badass Baxter My name is Baxter and I am a badass. Nuff said. Badass Baxter was a truly awesome cat. I lived outside for a while and got into my fair share of scrapes.

He developed cancer and was humanely euthanized at home, surrounded by people who loved him, in July of 2016. I'm still going to keep his page active, but the focus will shift to reminiscences about him (and pictures of my girl cats doing things that remind me of him). Here's his original page description:

I was left behind when my original humans moved. One day, a human trapped me and brought me

Friends For Life, Houston's first no-kill shelter. By that time, I was 6 years old and tested positive for FIV. When I first got to the shelter's off-site cattery inside a PetSmart, I was a bully. I eventually mellowed out and became friends with all the staff and volunteers who took care of us cats. Mom was one of the volunteers. She called me her supervisor because I'd loaf in the middle of the room and keep an eye on things. Then my teeth started hurting. I went back to the main shelter for medical attention. Much to Mom's dismay, I never went back to the cattery in the pet store. She came to visit me at the main shelter occasionally. I got placed in the senior room at the shelter, where I did fine for a few months. Then my mouth started acting up again, and I got placed in a cage in the back for treatment and observation. Mom had planned on adopting me back in February 2014, but then her cat Ollie (https://www.facebook.com/ooliemonster) got sick and she spent most of her time (and available credit) trying to fight his FIP. He died at the end of June 2014. A couple weeks later, Mom heard about the mouth problems I'd been having and came to visit me. She got me out of the cage and I sat on her lap and purred for about half an hour. She hated putting me back in the cage and was very sad to leave. Because of all the money she spent on Ollie, she can't really afford to adopt a 9-year-old FIV+ cat who has other medical issues. Since, incredibly, there had been no adoption applications for me in the 2.5 years I'd been there, FFL said they'd be happy to send me home with her as a long-term foster. During my time at FFL, I made quite a few human friends. I even made some cat friends. I miss my friends, but I love having my own home and my own human and two girl cats. I have had all my teeth pulled now (I had LPGS) and am feeling a lot better. Now I spend my time supervising Mom (keeping her in line and making sure the food arrives on time), vanquishing various household enemies, and generally being a badass.
