Resources

Due to the limited number of vouchers available each month, not all applicants will receive one in any given cycle. As such, we have a compiled list of low cost resources on our site for locals to consider as well. We are doing what we can with this effort and we encourage you to pursue other options too, especially if it's time sensitive.

That said, our next application cycle opens September 1.

Thank you for wanting to be a part of the solution!

8/14/24 Update: As of this morning, we are still awaiting an acceptance confirmation from several applicants. Those individuals have until 440pm TODAY to respond to our message before their approved voucher will move to the next person in line. * PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAILS AND CHECK YOUR JUNK MAIL BOX AS WELL * so you don't miss your opportunity this cycle.

We are doing what we can but, as a solely volunteer-managed effort, we do not have the resources to continue to follow-up with applicants repeatedly so we appreciate your prompt and timely replies. Thank you.

August 6 - we are in the process of reviewing the applications. Note, this month we received a higher volume of applications, which tells us two things: (1) this is a very necessary program and (2) the word is getting out about it!

If you applied, please note that notifications will be sent within the next couple of weeks as to whether one will be issued for your pet this cycle. With a limited number of vouchers available each month, not all applicants will receive one this cycle, but those not receiving one will be welcome to reapply during a future application period.

Thanks in advance for your patience!

8/4/24 REMINDER - applications for August will close at 5pm on August 5.

NOTE: This program is open to residents of BERKELEY COUNTY, SC only.

Please ensure your supporting documentation accurately reflects your status as a resident of Berkeley County, SC.

In the days following the close of the application cycle, we will contact applicants to decline based on out-of-county residency, or to request any clarifying documentation so that we may continue processing the applications.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Did you know that more pets go missing on July 4th than any other day of the year? The loud noises and bright lights of fireworks can spook your pets, causing them to run away in fear.

Don't wait until it’s too late to:

✅ Ensure your pets are wearing well fitted collars, and their identification tags are up-to-date

✅ Microchip your pet if you haven't already

Microchipping your pet is crucial, especially during this time! Microchipping increases the chances of being reunited with your pet if they become lost.

Berkeley Animal Center will be hosting PETSinc Mobile Veterinary Clinic on TUESDAY, July 2. Microchips at this clinic are only 💲2️⃣5️⃣ and this is open to ALL COUNTIES. More information in the comments.

Let’s talk rabies …

Approximately 25-30% of our May applicants stated their pet is not current on their rabies vaccine. This is disconcerting for many reasons, as it indicates a segment of pets is not receiving routine vet care.

Did you know that you are LEGALLY REQUIRED to keep your pet’s rabies vaccine up to date?

In SC, the owner must be able to provide proof of a current rabies vaccine upon any officer's request. Violation of this can be a fine of up to $1087.50 per animal. PER ANIMAL! That sure adds up to a lot of money and hassle that could easily be avoided.

If you are crossing state lines with your pet in the car and you get stopped for whatever reason, and you do NOT have a valid rabies certificate and proof on hand, you may be fined in that state as well.

With so many low-cost clinics every single month, there are plenty of opportunities to check this off the to do list. At most clinics it’s only about $10 or $15 - visit the Resources page on our site for nearby walk-in options and upcoming lower cost clinics. Skip the Starbucks one day and get your dogs vaccinated, please.

Today is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day!

Did you know that shelters spay or neuter animals before adoption to prevent pet overpopulation and reduce the number of homeless animals? This crucial step helps ensure a healthier and happier life for your new companion!

In South Carolina, state law 47-3-480 requires animal shelters to spay or neuter animals before adoption, unless a licensed veterinarian certifies that the animal is medically exempt. This law helps reduce pet overpopulation and promotes responsible pet guardianship.

By adopting a shelter pet, you're not only giving a loving home to a deserving animal, but also supporting the important work of local shelters and the spay/neuter initiative.

So, consider visiting your local shelter and find your new best friend!
