UPDATE ON CRITICAL RESCUE
Sadly this beautiful ginger boy did not make it. He started to have seizures and in spite of the vets best efforts, he did not respond to any medication and his little body gave out. Thank you to the team at CoopVet for trying their hardest to help him. We are so sorry little one. Your life mattered and we take some comfort in being able to have been there for you in the end. No more pain. Run free little one. 💔

Infelizmente este menino lindo não resistiu. Começou a ter convulsões e apesar dos esforços incansáveis dos veterinários não respondeu a nenhuma medicação. ‼ WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT
We found this beautiful kitty in incredible pain and distress on the side of the road along the Marginal. We rushed him to CoopVet where he was sedated (he was in a lot of pain) to allow for a thorough assessment. His condition is very critical. We don't yet know what happened to him but it is the worst case we have seen in a while. We will post an update as soon as we know more. Please keep this poor boy in your thoughts! 🥺🙏

Pipoquinha is now a glorius 4.5 months old and her personality lives up to her bubbly name! She has endless bouncy energy, loves to climb up our clothes and perch on our shoulders, take naps in funny yoga positions and headbutt our noses for cuddles. She is still on a special diet but she is thriving and fully settled with her foster parents and their fur kids. We think this may turn into a furever home don't you? 🤭😻

A Pipoquinha está agora com uns gloriosos 4 mesinhos e meio e faz jus ao seu nome saltitante! Ela tem uma energia incansável, adora trepar a roupa e empoleirar-se no ombro, dormir em posições de ioga impossíveis e dar turrinhas a pedir mimos. Ela continua a fazer a alimentação gastrointestinal mas está saudável e completamente integrada com os padrinhos e manos felinos. This little 8 week old baby girl was just rescued. She's a little malnourished and weak, but the vets gave her a good prognosis. We've been needing some happy news, and Kimmy is here to bring us just that!
After some proper introductions with foster mama extraordinaire 's dogs, our beautiful girl was able to leave the kennels and is now learning how to be a house dog!
Kimmy is young, active, social, and extra playful. She's also shown to be remarkably clever and will learn commands pretty easily.
Kimmy is now looking for her forever home, where she can become an integral part of the family and go on amazing adventures together.

SWEET DREAMS ELVIRA
Our hearts are shattered as we had to let Elvira go today. 💔 Humans in her past failed her, abused her, tortured and beat her but in this last week of her life, we hope she got to understand that not all of us are cruel. After 15 years of rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming in Maputo we knew that finding Elvira a suitable home would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Her aggression towards other animals, most likely caused by a life of being encouraged to kill in the dog fighting ring, combined with her impressive size and strength made her a challenging case to home. She needed a home with no other pets, no access to other animals on walks, and no kids. She needed training to help soften and guide her appropriately (thanks goes to Tiago for offering his services here, we are so sad Elvira didn’t get this chance). She needed stimulation in other ways since she wouldn’t have it with normal walks & socialisation. This means she needed an experienced home, ideally with a single person who worked from home, that would very slowly allow her to find herself, commit to a consistent routine and training, allow her to live life indoors and also have access to a spacious outdoor garden to offer exposure to nature. She needed to be part of a 2-part family - her and her person. She needed that needle in a haystack home and time wasn’t on her side to find it, if it even exists. We don’t take these decisions lightly, in fact we rarely make this call but when we do, we are by their side, we hold their paw, we stroke them and tell them how loved and brave they are, and we cry over their lost potential. So tonight, we ask you to be gentle with us, because this is the side of rescue that breaks us. We want to thank CoopVet for giving Elvira so much help this week, we know how heavy this weighs on your hearts too. We want to thank Elvira’s rescuers: Ken for helping us secure her, and Danial and Helder for their efforts when she was first sighted - without your kindness, Elvira would have suffered a tremendous deal more. And thank you to all of those that reached out to offer to help Elvira - she certainly will not be forgotten and her life, albeit short and full of tragedy will hopefully inspire you to give a dog in need a chance, to give them the life she never got to experience. Rest peacefully dear Elvira and we’ll see you at the rainbow bridge sweet girl ... 🐾🌈💜

Estamos de coração partido, tivemos de deixar a Elvira partir hoje. 💔 As pessoas no passado dela maltrataram-na, torturaram-na, abusaram dela e agrediram-na, mas nesta última semana de vida esperamos que tenha percebido que nem todos os humanos são cruéis. Após 15 anos de resgate, reabilitação e adopção de animais em Maputo sabíamos que encontrar a casa certa para a Elvira seria como procurar uma agulha num palheiro. A agressividade que demonstrou com outros animais, muito provavelmente por ter sido condicionada a matar nas lutas de cães a sua vida toda, aliada ao seu tamanho imponente e força bruta fizeram da sua história um caso muito complicado. Ela precisava de uma casa sem outros animais, sem acesso a outros animais que estivessem a passar, e sem crianças. Ela precisava de treino positivo para ajudar a suavizar o seu temperamento e guiar a sua energia - muito obrigada Tiago por disponibilizares os teus serviços, temos tanta pena da Elvira não ter tido esta oportunidade. Ela precisava de outros estímulos pois não ia poder desfrutar dos passeios e socialização normais para um cão. Isto implica uma pessoa experiente, idealmente que trabalhasse a partir de casa, que lhe desse tempo para gradualmente se redescobrir, que estivesse disposta a manter uma rotina e treino consistentes, que a deixasse estar dentro de casa e também ter acesso a um jardim espaçoso para ter contacto com a natureza. Ela precisava de fazer parte de uma família de 2 - ela e a sua pessoa. Ela precisava dessa casa especial e não houve tempo suficiente para a encontrar - se é que sequer existe. Não tomamos esta decisão de ânimo leve, na verdade, raramente tomamos esta decisão mas quando a tomamos, ficamos ao lado deles até ao fim. Dizemos o quanto são corajosos e importantes, damos mimo e damos colo, choramos pelo futuro que não se concretizou. Por isso, esta noite, por favor sejam gentis connosco, porque este é o lado do resgate que nos quebra. Queremos agradecer à equipa da CoopVet por tudo o que fizeram pela Elvira esta semana, sabemos o quanto também vos custou este desfecho. Obrigada aos heróis da Elvira, ao Ken por nos ajudar a apanhá-la, ao Danial e ao Hélder pelos esforços incansáveis para a resgatar quando foi vista pela primeira vez - sem a vossa bondade, a Elvira teria sofrido muito mais. Brave Elvira (as she's now known) can stand up on her own! She is still a little unsteady, but she has made an incredible recovery. Elvira has been friendly and gentle towards humans, but she has shown to be extremely reactive to other dogs. We hate to think of her past and what she was probably forced to do to become like this 🥺. The kennels are therefore not an option for her, nor can she continue to stay at the vets. So Elvira needs a LIFELINE. She needs a secure foster or forever home with no other pets and no small children. This beautiful boy was rescued from the hands of an unstable person who wanted to eat him. We were in the right place at the right time and thus lucky Mikey got a second chance at a long life! WILSON STARTED TREATMENT! 🐾
Can you believe this is the same dog!? Isn’t it amazing what a week of care can do to transform these beautiful souls! Thank you Coopvet for cleaning this boy up and giving him much needed attention. We are excited to share that Wilson (as he is now named) started treatment for TVT on Wednesday! Transmissible Venereal Tumors, or “TVT” is a relatively common sexually transmitted disease among dogs that is 100% curable with a 4-6 week course of chemotherapy. Thank you to AdA for donating the medication to help us save some costs. Each treatment will cost us 1.350 Mts - can you sponsor a treatment for Wilson?
We’d really love to see this boy recover in a foster home so if you don’t have other dogs, please consider offering Wilson a place to crash and get some love whilst he completes his treatment.

BRUTALLY ATTACKED, CAN WE SAVE HER?
Last night, this sweet, gentle giant was severely beaten and STABBED! There’s no doubt about it, whoever did this tried to kill her. She had collapsed in pain and fear and was found early morning lying on the road by a kind human out walking. Ken Cooper, you're a hero! Thank you for staying by her side for nearly 3 hours whilst you waited for us to arrive. Your commitment made all the difference! We had been alerted of this girl on Tuesday by Danial, another kind human that also stayed with her for 2 hours trying to gain her trust to take her to the vet when she just appeared lost and scared. Unfortunately we weren’t able to get her safely off the street then and within 48 hours, this was what she endured overnight. No one knows what awful existence she came from originally but judging by her cut ears and submissive demeanour, she’s seen only the cruel side of humanity.
Our girl is now in recovery at and although we're hopeful, she's still in a critical condition and has no guarantees of survival. The stab wound is deep on her chest and she was beaten by something hard enough to cause cranial trauma and possibly spinal injury. She’s severely dehydrated and went in to shock during her examination. The next few days will be crucial in knowing whether this gorgeous girl has a chance of a happy future. So please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, sending all the positive vibes she deserves! As always, her vet bill will sink us in to debt so please donate and most important, we need to find a loving HOME for this brave lady. If you can FOSTER or ADOPT. Please contact us! Ontem à noite esta doce menina foi brutalmente espancada e ESFAQUEADA! Não há dúvida, quem fez isto tentou matá-la. Ela estava prostrada de medo e dor e foi encontrada esta manhã na berma da estrada por um transeunte que fazia a sua caminhada. Ken Cooper, muito obrigada por ficar com ela até chegarmos. Já tinhamos sido alertadas para esta menina na terça-feira pelo Danial que foi ficou 2 horas a tentar ganhar a confiança dela para a conseguir resgatar. Infelizmente, não conseguimos apanhá-la nesse dia e 48 horas depois ela foi sujeita a esta violência. Não sabemos de onde vem nem o que passou antes, mas podemos garantir que daqui para a frente só vai conhecer a bondade dos humanos.
Ela está a ser acompanhada na clínica CoopVet e apesar de estarmos esperançosas, ela ainda está em estado crítico sem garantia de sobreviver. A ferida no peito é profunda, e foi agredida com força suficiente para causar um traumatismo craniano e potencialmente uma lesão na coluna. Ela está muito desidratada e entrou em choque durante a avaliação. Os próximos dias vão ser críticos para sabermos se vai ter uma segunda chance de um futuro mais risonho. Por favor mandem energias positivas! Como sempre, a conta veterinária vai nos deixar em dívida de novo, por isso por favor considerem contribuir para o tratamento desta patudinha! We received multiple calls and a kind person spent 2 hours trying to grab this scared pooch who is now hiding in a tunnel along the beach. This sweet senior stray boy was viciously (and intentionally) attacked by another owned dog a few days ago. He was in critical condition but made a truly miraculous recovery against all odds! He was also diagnosed with TVT (a venereal tumor) and will need several courses of chemotherapy treatment. 🥺 We now really need your help to cover the cost of his multiple treatments. ‼ WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT We found this beautiful kitty in incredible pain and distress on the side of the road along the Marginal. We rushed him to CoopVet where he was sedated (he was in a lot of pain) to allow for a thorough assessment. His condition is very critical. We don't yet know what happened to him but it is the worst case we have seen in a while. We will post an update as soon as we know more. NEW RESCUE!! 🐾 This beautiful boy was rescued from the hands of an unstable person who wanted to eat him. We were in the right place at the right time and thus lucky Mikey got a second chance at a long life! Little Mikey is only around 4-5 months and is incredibly affectionate! He just wants cuddles and attention and well, we have no foster homes and no more friends who can help out so ... he is now the new guest in our annex. 😅 Please please consider fostering or adopting little Mikey! ‼ NEW RESCUE! A couple days ago, we got a call from a community member who reported that a severely skinny and injured dog had wondered into their yard and had been there for the past 4 days. So we went all the way to Zimpeto, where we found this sad creature who had totally given up. After a lot of sausages and a little patience, we managed to put him in the car and rush him to CoopVet. After a quick x-ray, he was found to have multiple fractures on his hind leg. We need to decide on the next steps forward for this boy, but he will likely need surgical intervention. We are currently in no position to take on such a costly medical case, but our desire to do right by this boy is greater, so we are asking for your support in monetary donations to help cover all his upcoming bills, which will almost certainly run into the tens of thousands Meticais! Any amount, big or small, is welcome and very much appreciated. Stay tuned for more news on... Victor! A strong name for what we hope will eventually be a strong dog! NOVO RESGATE! Há uns dias recebemos uma chamada a reportar um cão muito magro e ferido num quintal privado há já 4 dias. Fomos até ao Zímpeto onde encontramos este pobre patudinho com um ar derrotado. Depois de muitas salsichas e um pouco de paciência, conseguimos metê-lo no carro e levá-lo logo para a clínica CoopVet. O raio-x indicou que tem várias fracturas numa das patas traseiras. Vamos ter de tomar decisões sobre o tratamento deste menino que, muito provavelmente, vai precisar de intervenção cirúrgica. De momento não temos condições para assumir um caso tão dispendioso mas a nossa vontade de ajudar este patudinho fala mais alto e por isso, vimos pedir a vossa ajuda para cobrir as contas veterinárias avultadas que aí vêm. DAY 42 🐾 6 weeks old! Little Pipoca has already learned how to use the litter box (such a smart girl!) and is slowly weaning off her baby bottle like the big girl she is becoming! She is the quirkiest little girl and this awesome catnip carrot from Nala Mozambique has become one of her favorite toys (thank you Marisa for the adorable donation!). A nossa Pipoca já aprendeu a usar a caixinha de areia (que espertinha!) e está no processo de desmamar do biberão e comer do prato como uma menina grande. Ela está numa fase giríssima e esta fantástica cenoura com catnip da Nala Mozambique é um dos seus brinquedos favoritos (obrigada Marisa pelo mimo!). DAY 20 🐾 Almost 3 weeks old!!! Our little Pipoquinha is starting to interact with the world around her and it's the cutest thing! She has finished her antibiotic treatment and has her follow up vet appointment tomorrow. A big THANK YOU to everyone who donated some cans of kitten mousse for her! You rock! 😻 DIA 20 🐾 Quase a comemorar 3 semaninhas! A nossa Pipoquinha está a começar a interagir com o mundo e é absolutamente adorável! Ela já terminou o tratamento com antibiótico e tem amanhã a consulta de acompanhamento. O nosso MUITO OBRIGADA a todos os que doaram latinhas de mousse para gatinhos para ela! Vocês são o máximo! 😻
DAY 9 🐾 Here she is! She can crawl and follow smells (she has learned our smell means food!) but still cannot see as her eyes are still closed. Her ears are starting to unfold so she is starting to pick up some sounds. Kittens this age are very unsteady and only wobble along like this. 😊 DIA 9 🐾 Aqui está ela! Ela consegue rastejar e seguir cheiros (já sabe que o nosso cheiro é igual a comida) mas ainda não abriu os olhos. As orellhinhas já estão a começar a abrir e vai apanhando alguns sons. Gatinhos desta idade são ainda muito instáveis e têm movimentos limitados. 😊
MATILDE NEEDS OUR HELP 🥺 This morning we got a call from Matilde's caretaker that she was injured and refusing the food she usually devours. Matilde is a sweet stray that we have been monitoring for a while. She is now at CoopVet for assessment and we will share an update on her condition as soon as we know more. ‼ CRITICAL RESCUE This poor kitten was found 2 months ago dragging himself along the road on his own. A kind lady took him in and has been doing her best to care for him. When she heard about us she immediately reached out and we immediately said we'd help. WATCH THE RESCUE VIDEO HERE! Last week we got our first emergency rescue call of 2024. We dropped everything and rushed to the location as we understood the huge danger this poor dog was in. She had already given up and her lower body was in the water. Thankfully she seemed to understand we were trying to help and still had enough strenght to walk herself up to the road and to a new life! We are so proud of our Mia and her fantastic team for this amazing rescue! A big thank you as well to Nanda for alerting us about this sweet girl and to everyone who helped make this rescue happen that day. This girl is not microchipped but is in fairly good condition and is incredibly sweet so we are still hopeful there is a family out there missing her. 🤞🐶😍 VEJAM O VÍDEO DO RESGATE AQUI! Na semana passada recebemos a nossa primeira chamada de 2024 para um resgate urgente. Largámos tudo e voámos para o local pois percebemos o imenso perigo em que se encontrava este patudinho. Ela já tinha desistido e a parte inferior do corpo já estava dentro da água. Felizmente pareceu perceber que estávamos a tentar ajudar e ainda tinha forças para subir pelo seu pé até a segurança da estrada e a um novo começo! Estamos muito orgulhosas da nossa Mia e da sua equipa por este resgate incrível! O nosso muito obrigada também à Nanda Lobato pelo alerta e a todos os que nos apoiaram de uma forma ou outra nesse dia. SAMMY GOES TO THE DENTIST! On Thursday our sweetest ginger boy had to go in for a torn nail but ended up having to stay for a dental intervention. 🥴 Sammy is Felv+ and as such has gum disease and bad teeth. At his latest check-up, his last 5 remaining teeth were found to be so bad they had to be taken out to prevent complications so he is now officially toothless. 😬 He is not too impressed with us right now but has recovered nicely and after spending Christmas at the clinic, he was able to go back home today. 😻 O SAMMY VAI AO DENTISTA! Na quinta-feira o nosso menino teve de ir à clínica ver uma unha magoada e acabou por ter de ficar para um procedimento dentário. 🥴 O Sammy tem leucemia felina e por isso tem gengivite e dentes mauzitos. Na avaliação verificou-se que os 5 dentes que ainda tinha estavam em mau estado e tinham de ser extraídos para evitar mais complicações. Ele é oficialmente desdentado agora! 😬 Ele não está muito impressionado connosco mas tem recuperado bem e depois de passar o Natal na clínica, hoje já pôde voltar para casa! 😻
UPDATE ON VISHNU Vishnu is doing a bit better but his breathing is still being monitored and thus his dental procedure was postponed until next week. He is a bit stressed at the clinic but still loves soaking up all the love he can get. Hang in there sweetheart! ❤ NOTÍCIAS DO VISHNU O Vishnu está um pouco melhor mas a sua respiração ainda exige algum cuidado pelo que o procedimento foi adiado para a próxima semana. WATCH THIS AMAZING RESCUE! 😱 How did this little kitten end up stuck in the middle of the road?! She was so incredibly lucky to have been spotted by our very own Mia, before disaster struck! This little beauty is around 6 weeks old, has been dewormed and deflead and is now SAFE in a foster home. This ginger fur ball will soon be ready to find a home of her own so please send us a message if you'd like to meet her! UPDATE ON WENDY Our little girl is doing a bit better and more active the past day. 😻 She has now started daily physical therapy to address the stiffness brought on by the toxoplasmosis. We are amazed at her fighting spirit and are still hopeful she can pull through! A big thank you to Rita, Laura, Saba and Joana for the kind donations of kitty milk - thanks to you we now have a good stock for our babies! Wendy's treatment will entail at least 20 days of antibiotic, physical therapy and supportive care and with several critical cases on our hands we really need help to cover vet bills. If you can make a donation towards Wendy's on-going treatment, we would be very very grateful! 🤗 NOTÍCIAS DA WENDY A nossa menina está um pouco melhor e tem estado mais móvel este último dia. 😻 Ela começou a fazer fisioterapia para a rigidez nas patinhas causada pela toxoplasmose. Estamos impressionadas com a força desta pequenota e muito esperançosas que consiga recuperar! ‼ OUR LITTLE GIRL IS CRITICAL Our little baby girl began to decline yesterday and by this morning she was barely able to walk, was lethargic and with diarrhea. She has had to stay at the clinic for treatment and monitoring and currently has a very reserved prognosis. We are all just hoping she will pull through. We are so thankful to Saba, Monica and Emma for so lovingly fostering Wooly for the past couple months and overjoyed that Mariana has chosen to give him a chance!
