Ground Force Jack Russell Terriers Ground Force is located in Texas. My goal is to breed a well rounded terrier that hunts, shows and has an outstanding temperament.

Ground Force has relocated from the foothills of Northern California to Texas. Jack Russells have been a part of my life since 1996. My terriers are family and my limited litters are raised in my home.

What is this “vet” you’re speaking of?

Lots of new sights, sounds and smells for the pups today. First exams, vaccinations and microchips. They passed with flying colors. They loved the techs. Loved the vet until she stuck them for their vaccine. And then promptly forgave her. This was their first car ride since birth and they did wonderfully. Traveled like seasoned professionals at a mere 8 weeks of age.

Oh to be a carefree puppy. It was wrestlefest around here this evening. Enjoy their shenanigans!

Happy Heavenly Birthday to the dog that started the dynasty that is Ground Force! Thank you Vegas for setting the bar and showing how versatile a JRT can be. 28 years ago I had no idea how different my life would be thanks to a little white dog. Here’s a little glimpse into puppy life around here. Aunt Brenna wanted to play with the pups after Ravyn had finished nursing them. The girl pup decides she needed to go potty and makes her way to the litter pan. Mind you she was just introduced to the litter box yesterday. Ravyn comes in to inspect the activity. She sees all is well and leaves. Well adjusted dogs produce well adjusted dogs. ❤️

It was a bit of a wild ride last night. We are in the suburbs of Houston and were in the path of what is believed to have been a tornado(still needs to be confirmed by the National weather service). All the dogs and I took shelter and hunkered down in the closet. Thankfully we are all safe and sound. We faired so much better than many of those in our community. Power is back on and I’ll be doing a lot of yard clean up later today.

Please take time today to look at your emergency plans on what you would need to do in the event of an emergency in your area. My plan worked well and the training for my dogs made the event less stressful that it could have been. It also showed me a couple holes in my plans. I’ll be evaluating those this weekend and tie up the loose ends.

If you have it in you please send thoughts and prayers to those in the greater Houston area who will be affected by the aftermath of the storm for potentially many weeks to come.

**Trigger Warning**

I need to update you all on our much anticipated litter. I had the worst experience of my entire 20+ years of breeding. The pups were born on Thursday(5/2) and long story short I used a flea product that is advertised and marketed as safe for pregnant and lactating females. 5 of the 8 pups were born with major orthopedic deformities. And another one was a mirco-tiny pup. I have consulted with my vet team(reproduction specialists) and their opinion is the deformities were the result of toxin exposure most likely from the flea product(Frontline Plus). One of my repro vets has seen this happen before with almost identical circumstances. These sweet babies have all made their way to heaven. I am devastated.

The surviving two are doing well. This has been such a heartbreaking experience. I used the product because I saw a couple fleas really early in the season for us on Ravyn and a couple of my other dogs. I was concerned about Ravyn possibly getting tapeworms from the fleas and wanted to avoid the possibility of having to treat for them. Never even imagined this could have happened or I would NEVER have used the product. I filed a report with the manufacturer and they are mandated to report to the EPA.

I hope that others out there can learn from our tragedy and spare future pups from the same fate. If we can then these pups lives were not in vain.

I beg of you to use an over abundance of caution. Never again will I treat an in whelp girl with any flea product no matter the claim from the manufacturer. At my repro vet’s suggestion I will only bathe with dawn dishwashing liquid and use a flea comb in the future for in whelp girls.

Puppy watch 2024 is underway. Ravyn is about ready for her army of pups to make their appearance. I’d like her to keep those buns in the oven until next weekend. But Mother Nature will have them arrive when she’s ready. Everyone keep their fingers crossed for next weekend. All the dogs are following me around and “helping” while I get the whelping box and whelping supplies set up.

In case you’ve ever wondered what age a JRT activates their Zoom-Zoom button it’s 7 weeks and 3 days old. 😂 These two woke up from a nap and it was hammer down time. This video is after a good 10 minutes of them careening around the yard.
