We’ve been so busy lately that we have been slacking posting pictures of the adventures that CHE riders and horses have been having! Between beaches and costume contests, poker rides, and and SO MUCH laughter…they’ve been some good ones! ❤️

Today was one of…THOSE days. UTV wouldn’t start, dump cart had a flat tire, my tack room was under 2 inches of water (thankfully boarder tack rooms are a-ok!), realized the cow water had been running likely since sometime early yesterday morning, the front panel of the chicken coop is somehow coming off, we are likely going to lose more than a few bales of hay from the torrential rains getting them wet even under cover, and then to top it all off…the truck decided to get a flat too!

But the show must go on. And the one thing we pride ourselves on is that in the midst of the chaos…the horses had no idea. Their breakfast came right on time. Fill waters, clean stalls and fresh shavings (with a little help from our AMAZING neighbors and their tractor!) Just like every other Monday. While the humans dealt with a flood dang near biblical proportions…the horses happily went on with their daily lives. And that’s just the way we like it ❤️🐴❤️

Thick smoke has been hanging over CHE for the past week due to the local Caldor fire to the east. Thankfully we are in a safe place and are refraining from any riding to minimize effects from the bad air quality for both horses and humans.

Our thoughts are with all of those displaced and we couldn’t be more grateful for all those working to combat this destructive wildfire.

Today was Duke and Wini’s birthday and they celebrated with cake and a spa day! They were even kind enough to share their celebration oat, carrot and apple cake with the rest of the barn!

Everyone agrees…we’re pretty happy these two were born ❤️

Summer is now in full swing...but the horses don’t seem to care! ❤️🐴❤️

We all know horses are grazers...meant to slowly wander over long distances, nibbling grasses along the way. Thus, their bodies are designed to “graze” throughout the day.

This can be hard to replicate in a typical boarding situation and while CHE horses are are frequently out to pasture playing and nibbling, we are constantly continuing to improve for the good of our horses!

As part of that improvement, today the majority of CHE residents’ stalls were outfitted with slow feeders! Instead of gobbling their food, these feeders will slow the horses down and make their meals last longer, improving mental and gut health!

We think they will like them!

Flies suck...and they bite too!

We take fly control seriously. Stalls are cleaned every day without fail, pastures are also routinely cleaned to prevent the fly life cycle, manure is taken off of the main property, across the creek and down the road to be spread and composted and...we employ a natural helper...fly predators!

These stingless wasps prey on any fly larva that we happen to miss, preventing them from hatching into annoying flies.

We know that with livestock come flies, but we do our best to combat them on every front to make our horse and human residents more comfortable!
