We lost our Stanley today, a dog was so much more than just a dog. He was my family’s first rescue dog, showing us all that dogs without pedigrees are just as gentle, smart, goofy, loving and wonderful as the dogs we bought before him. Since him, our family went on to adopt 4 more dogs between us. Stanley was a huge inspiration for Rescue in Style and graced so many of my posts early on in this journey.

Stanley, I love you. Thank you for choosing us so many years ago. Thanks for sparking this passion, I promise I won’t let you down. Can’t wait to see you again. Until then, you have so many to keep you company, tell them I say hi and watch out for them like the good boy you are 🩷

Normalize taking flights for day trips.

We may have gotten kicked off our own roof, but it didn’t stop us from celebrating Pride. Like honestly, it’s 2025, how embarrassing to be homophobic. ✌🏻🌈🦄

The difference that 6 weeks can make 🥺 from just days old to a whole kitten, Shante checked in her first vaccine! Fostering truly saves lives and I’m so grateful to all those opening their homes and hearts to animals in need. Thank you for making a difference.

Have you ever fostered an animal? If not, comment below on what’s stopping you and maybe we can brainstorm a solution.

Yesterday was one of the most intense but rewarding days in awhile. It was a 13 hour work day, it was exhausting but we managed to laugh and support one another along the way. Here’s a quick snap shot:
- 8 am workout because I’m loving feeling strong in my body and being able to lift and move heavy things (see below)
- Surgery day for 14 kittens and Scotty featuring our favorite and .leen - our new volunteer vet tech! I’ve learned so much already by observing surgeries and assisting how I can, surgery days are my favorite.
- Transport day for 10 cats/kittens coming in from Kuwait, a country that has very few options for animal adoptions - this consisted of traipsing all over the airport lugging massive carriers (thankful for my body to be able to do these things)
- Saying yes to 5 cats from our community so they could bypass the Chicago shelter system
- While and I were running all over O’Hare, .mollie (also worked a 12 hour day), and held it down at the Cade and the public is no joke. Shout out to and for volunteering and helping us stay on track.
- Creating memories with my coworkers, feeling like a team and doing work we love.

I am forever grateful to get to do this work and to believe in something so wholeheartedly. Thank you to those of you who help us with this work, whether volunteering, donating, dropping off coffee/snacks/goodies, fostering, or being a .of.leo, I see you. Thank you 🩷

In high school, I was a nerd (this shouldn’t surprise you) and my senior year, I was a “Peer Group” leader. Basically you mentored freshman and pledged to be sober and try to help them with the transition to high school.

Turns out, Toothless and her siblings are being fostered by a young woman who was a freshman in Peer Group and we have very much mutual friends from High School. The world is just so small and finding those kind of connections brings me joy. So does Toothless of course who will be available for adoption in a few weeks.

Last year, I really, really did not enjoy my birthday. Turning 36 made me feel like I had aged out of what society told me was valuable. Ad women, so much of our self-worth is tied up in youth and beauty.

What society didn’t tell me was that as you get older, the less you care about some arbitrary conventions.

This past year, I’ve felt confident in my relationship, friendships, career and lifestyle. The unconventional choices I’ve made over the past few years have led to a life full of love. I’m happy to be that little weirdo I tried to hide for so long, society be damned.

This year, I’m truly stoked to be 37, I’m eager to see what this year will bring because it feels like I’m just getting started.

I guess that feral female slogan I came up with so many years ago has continued to ring true. Stay feral ladies 💅🏽
