As we enter 2022, Bau's is becoming a full time focus for Jordan and I. We want to thank everyone who has supported us so far and helped us build a sustainable business, that has allowed us to provide holistic wellbeing services for your pets. We are truly passionate about helping animals and giving them the best care we can, either through bodywork, a home away from home, or in feeling secure in their relationships.

With the recent growth we're bringing in some changes to our pricing and services, so we can continue to offer you all the highest quality care. With some exciting new offerings, and programs to help support you and your animals on your journey together.

There can be nothing better than snuggling our faces into our dogs fur, breathing in their special scent, and getting a big feeling of love inside our hearts...but did you know hugging isn't always the most polite experience for a dog?

I'm not saying not to hug your dog, and while some dogs love hugs (Bella is counted in that!) it is not a typical dog to dog behaviour. It can be confronting for some dogs, especially with people they don't know.

While many well rounded dogs can tolerate the behaviour (Zap is more like this), it's important to be mindful of their body autonomy, the signals they're giving us, and what it is saying to them in canine language.

A luxating patella is a kneecap that moves out of its normal location in the trochlear groove. Many of my patients come to me for luxating patella concerns. Depending on the grade of severity I have had significant success in treating and maintaining luxating patellas through Bowen Therapy, and for those who do require surgery, Bowen is the ideal modality to provide rehabilitation support. By working on the patella ligament we can strengthen and structure the musculature of the patella itself, and further develop the surrounding musculature.

Two opposing forces are within our dogs. The wild, with instincts, survival, and pack experience. The domestic, with puppy dog eyes, changed features, and human companionship. Ideally these forces are in balance. I refer to this experience as The Domesticated Wild. To support our dogs in living in equilibrium with these forces I have a few ideas on how to honour The Domesticated Wild.

🔸Recognise dogs are exhibiting behaviours of juvenile wolves, they never really grow up.
🔸Encourage your dog to stay in touch with their wild by allowing them to track scents, wrestle with friends, and consider including raw meat in their diet.
🔸Touch is integral in bonding a pack you can communicate the same way with your dog through physical contact and attention.
🔸Support your dog in learning the ways of the human world, but respect the boundaries of their own.
