We are a group of vets and researchers interested in understanding more about veterinary professionals' experiences of miscarriage, infertility, assisted fertility, and neonatal death. We have come together to find out more about other veterinary professionals (vets and nurses, both qualified and student/ trainee) who have had similar experiences. We hope to identify places where workplaces have
been able to support colleagues effectively, or learn from where this hasn't happened. By learning more about the diversity of people's experiences, we hope in the future that colleagues undergoing these difficulties, and colleagues trying to support them, will have resources to help guide them. Help us learn more by sharing your experiences anonymously at https://uk.surveymonkey.com/r/VETMIAF
We are:
Abi Collinson: I spent 8 years combining clinical work in the UK with working overseas before completing a PhD at the University of Nottingham. Currently working as a scientific officer for a veterinary charity. Nat Scroggie: I am a small animal vet working in first opinion practice. After suffering a miscarriage, I founded the Vet MINDs Group, a closed Facebook group providing support to veterinary professionals who have faced miscarriage, infertility, and neonatal death. This group now acts as a safe space for nearly a thousand members and has worked to raise awareness and understanding of these issues within the veterinary profession. Zoe Belshaw: I am a small animal internal medicine specialist vet, now working as a researcher. My main research focus is on owner experiences of living with old, young, and challenging dogs. Jenny Stavisky: Spent too many years to admit in practice, for the latter part mainly in charity and low cost care, and teaching final year students. Now a clinical researcher at VetPartners.
