Ohana,
We are still on an intake hold for the most part. We took in a few kitties from a client at the vet office we worked at (they are adoptable if you know anyone looking), and we still happen to have 2 'kittens' left from the litter that was dumped on my porch shortly after my mom died (also adoptable!). However, because we are 1. Insane and 2. Giant sucker's, we took this baby in around 3.5 weeks ago.
She was found in someone's backyard. Her mother was deathly allergic. So, because I had *just* lost Dinah, and because (again), I'm slightly insane, I agreed to take her on.
Finder said the mother cat had just dropped her in the backyard, and never came back. I had the finder drop her off to me at work before we closed (thank goodness for the amazing staff and vets at Bridgeport Veterinary Hospital who put up with my insanity and oversized heart).
She was relatively clean, but listless, and skinny. Her temp was 92. I called on my amazing husband to bring me supplies, and as soon as they were delivered, I put her on heat and hoped for the best.
She was quite underweight, and not very loud or demanding, so I knew she likely hadn't eaten in awhile. Within an hour on the heat, her temp had risen to 98, and I gave her a tiny bit of formula. Her latch was perfect almost immediately, and that flicker of hope burned brighter.
The first 48 hours she was so weak, she'd eat and immediately fall asleep, but by day 3 with round the clock feedings, she perked up significantly. Upon further inspection, I noticed she was a polydactyl. So, I named her Thumblina.
I caught it early, but had this baby been left outside a litter longer, she would not be with us today.
Fast forward 3 weeks, and I have a tiny teething kitten-shark! She is sweet and feisty. She will be ready for adoption in 10-12 weeks.
But for now, she's ready to started being introduced to kitten wet food in her formula. Were also going to introduce a litterbox! So, that's on the docket for this upcoming week.
All of her care has been out-of-pocket for me.
I have multiple kitties here at home that are either sanctuary residents, or kitties I adopted myself. A few are much older now with hefty vet bills. Those, along with the unexpected ER bill from Dinahs sudden (and devastating) passing, makes this an added (albeit totally worth it) unexpected expense. If you'd like to donate towards Thumblelinas care or future vet bills, my venmo is and my paypal is username ohanacatrescue (Jennifer Nendza).
Thanks for reading!!
