The inner world of the horse is just as important, possibly more important, than their 'external' world. Meaning, that horses need behavioral enrichment, they need to live lives promoting healthy horse behavior, grazing, mutual grooming, etc. A healthy well-adjusted horse in the inside, informs what you "see" on their outside. Think about this before you have a keen jerk reaction. Do you crave physical touch? Do you crave being able to get up and out and to move around when you want? I am not saying horses should never be in stalls, but the balance in the way they are managed must shift.

Gratitude post ❤️❤️❤️. I have so much to be thankful for this year! So much gratitude to everyone who was there for me during a particularly difficult time recently. I wish I had a word stronger than "Thank you!" to express how I felt, every time you reached out to me, with texts, phone calls, private messages, donations, supplies for my horses, and supporting me through my art business!
It has all helped me to keep going, stay sane, and find my way out.
I received every single outreach in my heart, and I am so very grateful!

Friends ❤️ a quick message... I’m incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support in my DMs. It means the world to know I'm not alone in this. I'm still waiting for the flooding to clear so I can get my vet truck back on the road. Until then, I'm doing what I can and extra grateful for my online art business. It is going to be a long road to recovery and I am pretty damn tired..

Congratulations to our July Good Works for Horses honorees! 🎉

We are excited to spotlight Dr. James Lewis, a member of Damascus Equine Associates in Mount Airy, Maryland, for volunteering his services with Safe Haven Equine Warriors, a nonprofit whose primary focus is to rescue, rehabilitate, retrain and rehome equines either suffering from or in imminent danger of abuse or neglect.

Dr. Lewis serves on the advisory council and supports the rescue’s mission in multiple ways. Volunteering his expertise to oversee the health of the rescue’s herd and treating often difficult conditions to give rescued horses a new lease on life, Dr. Lewis leads difficult discussions with sensible compassion.

We would also like to congratulate runners-up Dr. Keith Bogatch, a racetrack veterinarian based in Elmont, New York, and Dr. Alyssa King, owner of King's Kreatures, in Yoder, Colorado.

The Good Works for Horses campaign, graciously sponsored by AAEP Educational Partner Zoetis Equine, honors AAEP-member practitioners whose volunteer efforts have a positive impact on the equine community.
