Today, Wachusett Chinooks celebrates the life of Granite Hill Timmee Atole (Tim-May), 6/21/2011- 9/10/2024. She left us to cross over . She has been a quirky, funny girl. An awesome part of our pack, a wonderful Mother and a Savior, who loved all puppies so much, she would sneak into the pen (jumping over it) when Cassie was outside, just to be with them. She doted over her own pups so much we had to force her to leave them so she could eat, stretch her legs and do her business. Her Litter had to be the cleanest Chinook puppies there ever were! She stepped in when Guenhwyvar got scratched by her own pups at just shy of 4 weeks old, while nursing and vacated the job. Guenhwyvar would frequently check on her pups, but would want to leave the pen if they tried to nurse. Grandmother Timmee took over, spent many hours over the next weeks in the pen, as the pups were weaned, allowed the pups to nurse as they pleased and actually came into milk.
Timmee barely barked, but was very vocal and made her desires known. She tried her best in the UKC show ring, earning two legs towards her Champion status, but really only wanted to get back to the car so she could go home, so we went no further on that adventure.. There was always a toy or stick in her mouth. She was not a kisser, but an ear sniffer.
She crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on 9/10/2024, a Tuesday evening, at home, with the help of a very caring Vet. I have barely digested Timmee being gone. Her absence is felt very much. The remaining Wachusett Pack, Finley and Guenhwyvar are wanting more attention and Eragon (22 months) does not seem much different- he is younger and had less time spent with Timmee. It is sure different here. 2 months ago I had 5 Chinooks. We are now a pack of just 3 Chinooks. A different life😞. Timmee, you will always be in our hearts and never forgotten💔🌈.

Interesting.Always something new to think about.

Did you know your dog has a 2 out of 3 chance of NOT getting Lyme disease? That’s because only 1 out of 3 ticks carry the bacteria (Borrelia burgdorferi) that leads to Lyme. Even if bitten, researchers estimate only 10-20% of tick bites will cause Stage 1 Lyme disease, and just 1-2% of those will progress to the more serious Stage 2.

In fact, studies show that 95% of exposed dogs don’t even get sick! Experts at ACVIM (American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine) don’t recommend testing or vaccinating for Lyme disease in dogs.

This past Monday, Granite Hill Cascade Range, aka Cassie passed on and over the Rainbow Bridge. She had been an extremely healthy girl. She developed unexplained panting for a couple days which did not subside, but did not worsen and continued to eat well and take her usual longer naps. On Monday we had a Vet visit as her tongue and gums looked paler than usual. No infectious cause could be found, but a possible mass was felt under her right ribs. X-rays were attempted, but Cassie could not tolerate the required positioning. Given her age, there was a difficult decision to be made, but one that would keep her safe from further suffering and let her return home for the rest of the morning, and allow us to spend time with her and the rest of the Wachusett pack. Cassie passed peacefully to the sounds of nature, birds and flowers all around, with us to love and comfort her until her last breath. Cassie was my first Chinook and the Foundation of Wachusett Chinooks. She brought us into the world of the Chinook family- dog shows, Chinook Winter Carnival, 2 litters of wonder puppies, advice and counsel for any & every question, meeting many other Chinook owners, along the most wonderful journey of our lives. It is hard to lose our Chinooks, our first Chinook and one who helped us learn and experience so many things we never thought we would be a part of. Thank you Cassie for being our special girl and a part of our lives for close to 15 years. We will never forget you.💝 CH Granite Hill Cascade Range 12/28/2009- 7/22/2024

It is with a bit of shock and great sadness that we found out yesterday of the passing of Wachusett Gulbrun Bjorn. The family told us he passed suddenly late last Summer 2023.
Bjorn was born on April 8, 2014, one of the Wachusett Chinooks Viking Litter. He was a lovely, friendly boy who sired a litter for Blue Sky Chinooks in 2018. His son, Blue Sky Wachusett Kai went home to live with his Sire.
Bjorn did contract Leptospirosis a some years ago, which acutely affected his Kidneys. He recovered and was doing well without any long term damage.
We are waiting for more information to help answer the questions we have and give us closure. 😥🐾🌈

The Goodest Boi

I do agree that rice is not the choice I would feed my dogs for an episode of diarrhea. I would first try to discover what is causing it. If the dog is not acting ill, I would make sure they are drinking well to keep hydrated. The diarrhea could be in response to something the dog's body is trying to get rid of and flush out. Stopping the diarrhea (artificially) would keep the bad thing inside the body and could cause more harm and prolong the problem. keeping a watchful eye and getting them outside before they mess the inside floors is my first action. Sometimes the GI tract needs to rest with and after a bout of diarrhea- withholding solid meals and adding Probiotics to water or Bone broth can go a long way. Then start off slowly with soft/solid food as mentioned by others (pumpkin, slippery elm, etc).

Arlo (Wachusett Gulbrun Wulfgar) 7/3/2017- 1/23/2024

With much sadness, a Pup from our Legend of Drizzt Litter has left us suddenly and way too soon. His family let me know of his passing. Arlo passed Last Tuesday 1/23/2024. He became ill last weekend and needed urgent surgery for which there was no hope of him recovering from. He passed peacefully while in surgery with the help of caring surgeons, who were beside themselves there was nothing they could do to save this special boy.
From Arlo's family: "I am devastated and heartbroken 💔 Our family will never be the same and Jojo (my littlest daughter) is inconsolable. He was her best friend. My heart is literally shattered." " He was so healthy and never had any health issues at all. He was 6 years old but people would stop me on the trails and ask me how old my puppy was, they were sure he was a puppy, a Peter Pan of a dog. He looked and acted with playfulness like he was a 1 year old."
" We all miss him dearly and quite frankly, I don’t know what I’ll do without my lovable goof, the most special boy. ❤️ My heart is literally shattered. I can’t imagine my world without Arlo."

They take hold of a huge chunk of our hearts. We hope they will stay with us for a long time.... even forever! Our special Chinooks always leave us too soon, no matter how long they are a part of our lives.
There have been losses of many Chinooks in recent days and months., from newborn pups to older gals, and in between.
They were all loved so completely. They have all left their mark on their families and the rest of us. They will always be missed and always remembered.
RIP Arlo. With tears, we are thinking of you and your family.
