Meet the Bullseye Toothache Plant from Baker Creek! 🌼 Also known as the toothache plant, taking a bite from one of its blooms gives a zing similar to sticking your tongue on a battery (don't ask how I know that 😅) and temporarily numbs the area it touches. It's a natural analgesic and a fascinating addition to the garden!
My cilantro is bolting, but I don't mind because its blooms are so beautiful and delicate! 🌿✨ The tiny white flowers add a lovely touch to the garden. Sometimes, letting nature take its course brings unexpected beauty.
Orange Hat micro dwarf tomatoes are cranking out delicious orange cherry tomatoes while keeping an extremely tiny footprint! 🍅 Perfect for container gardens or gardens with limited space. I've even grown them inside in an AeroGarden over the winter holidays for fresh tomato snacks in the dead of winter. 🌱
Squash blossoms are not only beautiful, but they also make excellent snacks when fried or stuffed! 🌼🍴 Plus, our garden's bumble bees love using them as cozy beds during their pollen-collecting adventures. Nature's wonders never cease to amaze! 🐝
Zinnias are truly special and magnificent! 🌸✨ This year, they all self-seeded at our suburban homestead, bringing so much joy and beauty to our front yard garden beds. These vibrant blooms have made my gardening experience even more wonderful.

Letting the front flower beds self-seed from last year's blooms has been a beautiful experiment! 🌸 This season, we've been blessed with an abundance of zinnias, with basil, borage, cosmos, and balsam sprinkled in. Nature's touch at its best!
Behold the beauty of nasturtiums in full bloom! 🌸 These vibrant flowers add a pop of color to our metal raised beds, with our Over-EZ chicken coop providing the perfect backdrop. Nature's beauty at its finest!
Have you tried pineapple ground cherries, also known as gooseberries? 🍍 These sweet and tangy fruits are a delight to grow in the garden! You'll know they're ready to eat when the lantern-shaped pod dries up, turns into a brown papery texture, and drops to the ground. It's nature's way of saying they're ripe and ready to enjoy! This little plant will spend the season growing so much that it'll take over this entire bed!
Time flies when you're having fun in the garden! 🌱 Through the magic of social media time passing, it seems like only a few short days, but in reality, it's been a few weeks, and the garden has exploded in growth! The smaller metal raised beds are bursting with zucchini, summer squash, butter bush squash, and pineapple ground cherry plants, joining their nasturtium and toothache plant buddies. The micro dwarf tomatoes and cilantro are thriving, and the cucumbers are already climbing up the trellis. Meanwhile, the melons and tromboncino squash have been direct-sown on their trellis, and peppers have found a home in the Birdie's beds. Here's to an exciting gardening season, squeezing as many delights as possible into our raised beds! 🥒🍅🌶️
Every year, I find myself starting more tomato plants than I have space for in the garden. 🍅 Luckily, this year I was able to share some with dear friends, but I still have more left over! Can't wait to see these beauties thrive in their new homes.
Finally got some plants in the raised garden beds! 🌱 The 4 beds near the fence still need filling, but that's where the larger tomatoes will go once the trees are thinned out for more sun. Multiple nasturtiums, orange hat micro dwarf tomatoes, cilantro, and toothache plants are scattered around. Soon, cucumbers, melons, and vining squash will climb the arches, with zucchini and bush squash in the smaller beds. Can't wait for this garden to flourish! 🍅🥒🌿
Transplanted sage and oregano from the wattle bed into the slim Birdie's raised bed during our garden reshuffle, and wow, did they thrive! Just weeks later, they're blooming beautifully. There's something magical about sage blooms against the backdrop of our chicken coop.
The GreenStalks on the deck are exploding with loose leaf lettuce growth! Loving how they look next to the new pool. The tall GreenStalks add a vibrant pop of color and depth to our deck area. Can't wait to decorate this space even more for summer!
Had an amazing school field trip with Charlotte to the Ron Coleman Crystal Mines in Jessieville, Arkansas, back in April! We came back with a bunch of fantastic crystals for the garden. These beauties are going to add some real sparkle to our front flower gardens!
The firepit has found its new home, the chicken coop now beautifully framed by the arched cattle panel trellis, and the 4 new metal raised beds are set where the coop and firepit used to be. Next up: building a longer and taller chicken run for our new baby chicks arriving in mid-June from Murray McMurray Hatchery. We’ll also be clearing the overgrowth and replacing the privacy fence with a cattle panel fence to enjoy views of the neighboring horse ranch, which I hope will make the space feel much larger!
With the soil moved into the new garden beds, it's time to relocate the firepit stones and move the chicken coop to its new spot, which will be visible through the arched trellis tunnel! This will make room for 4 more metal raised beds!
Filled up our 4 new metal garden beds with soil from the old wattle bed along the fence line and the remaining soil from the last Birdie's bed that had been moved from the middle of the yard. It’s amazing to see our garden come together so beautifully! 🌱
Just assembled and set up our 4 new metal raised beds from Amazon, and I love the look so much that I'm planning to add 4 more on the other side for perfect symmetry! Thankfully, we have plenty of super soil left over from the old in-ground garden beds to fill these up. Loving the progress on our suburban homestead!

I’ve moved our Birdie's raised garden beds to the spot where the in-ground beds used to be and decided to add some smaller raised beds to the sides. I got 4 on sale on amazon last season and wasn't sure where to put them and now I've got the perfect spot!
Next up: adding arches, moving the chicken coop, and relocating the fire pit!🌱🌿🏡
Our curious cats are keeping a close eye on me as I dig out the Birdie's raised garden beds for a new and improved garden space. They love supervising our homestead projects! 🐱🌱
Exciting changes were happening in March and April! I've been hard at work digging out and moving our raised garden beds and stock tank pool to make room for a brand-new above-ground pool for our family! But this doesn't mean the end to my garden! It's the beginning of a brand new layout and garden space!
